Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Im fine with a tie to be honest. All that matter to me tonight was the way the team played, and I thought they played extremely well. Carlson was on his A game tonight and the bucks played hard. I loved the type of game that was played, hard hitting quick intense hockey game. This is the type of game that Miami needed going into the play offs, they should be well prepared.

Oh and lastly, I would just like to gloat a little bit. I told you most of the year that Notre Dame and Michigan both wouldn't get a first round bye and I was right :D . It is kind of nice to see the maze and blue alllll the way down in 7th place. Great job writers, your top two teams in the preseason poll finished 7th and 9th  . Even more proof to why preseason polls are meaningless.

Definitely, a gut check game that goes down to the wire. Great playoff type game to get us ready for a couple weeks from now. Take a couple days off next week boys, you've earned it.

Crazy thing is, OSU could be in oxford in two weeks and Michigan could have to go to sparty...Talk about intense playoff games between hated rivals. Boy the CCHA has to be drooling over these matchups.

UNO up 2-1 on bemidji. Alaska has jumped over sparty in the PWR and NMU has moved up to 13th with ferris at 14th. UNO is at 20 right now but I would have to think they would move up big if they win this one just like they got a big boost from beating Miami last weekend.

noooooooooo! Go bemidji!

Iguess he said value city. Same question...isn't the game at the schot?

FYI the building is called the Schottenstein Center and the seating area is called Value City Arena, crappy as the names are, but when you pony up millions you get to call it what you want. Value City was the name of the Schottenstein families now defunct furniture store chain.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Also looks like the Miami/OSU/Ferris/WMU cluster was the hardest one this season.

The worst was the Michigan/Mich State/ND/BG

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Reichard and Knapp finished 1/2 in the conference in GAA, Sv%, Win%, and Shutouts (there are a couple others tied with Knapp for second in shutouts though). That's a ridiculous stat.

Looking forward to watching tomorrow night's game online. There's a huge Miami contingent going and they're going to turn OSU's barn into our own.

Sorry, but our barn is still ours! Seriously though, even though you guys didn't get the win it was an intense and exciting a game as you could ask for. Ohio State was constantly line changing to try and keep up with the pace and it kept us from setting up anything on offense with the blue line usually abandoned during the change. I think Markell was hoping just to get a goal on an initial surge and wasn't worried about keeping in the offensive zone for any length of time. A lot of hard hits too which I haven't seen much of from Ohio State in awhile but historically our games have been closer when we keep up a sustained amount of hitting. The best game I've seen out of Ohio State all season although I think they unnecessarily turned the puck over way too much. I thank the Miami fans for contributing to a large crowd tonight and I only wish all our home games had that kind of attendance. I hope everyone who made the trip has a safe drive back. :)

Might want to tell your own radio announcers because they called it Value city arena all night....

Either name is correct as stupid as it is. It should have been named Taylor Arena after Ohio State's most distinguished basketball coach and our only national championship winner and also an all-american baseball player while a student here. But unfortunately poor Fred didn't have millions to wave under the greedy noses of the Board of Trustees so guess what didn't happen.

UAF with a win tonight could be looking at a 2 seed.

Makes sense, same with how ours is called either the goggin or steve cady.

Don't look now but Alaska is up to #9 in the PWR  . With UNO's win they move into 18th. NMU at 13, Ferris at 14, and Sparty at 11 still.

Also pretty crazy that 3 of the 5 series tonight went into a shoot out and they were all involving the top 3 in the standings with the top 3 all lossing....

24. Cameron Schilling-Defense-Miami(Free Agent)

The sophomore defenseman should be a highly coveted free agent this summer after his impressive play with top-ranked Miami the past two years. He's a nice all-around defenseman that may not have super high-end ability, but could definitely contribute at the NHL level.

35. Will Weber-Defense-Miami(Columbus Blue Jackets)

Weber was a risky second round pick by the Blue Jackets as one of the very few players to be selected directly out of Michigan high school hockey, but through two years at Miami, Weber seems on his way towards developing into the player Columbus thought he could be. He's a big stay-at-home defenseman that won't produce much offense, but be will be a reliable defender.

46. Chris Wideman-Defense-Miami(Ottawa Senators)

Wideman was selected in the NHL Draft last summer after putting up an impressive 26 assists in his freshman season. He hasn't quite matched those numbers so far this year, but has continued to play very solid hockey. His lack of size could hurt his chances at the pro level.

I have never seen the Schott so packed for a hockey game. I was definitely impressed. Though the home crowd wasn't very vocal, it was certainly OSU's home ice tonight. Definitely an intense and often frustrating game. Congrats on the S(hoot)Out-win and the home ice for first round.

For the Miami folks, had a great time at the pre-game gathering up at BW3's. I don't think they ever see that kind of crowd unless there's an OSU football game! Wish we could follow it up with a win, but I'll take the tie. Time to gear up for some playoff hockey!

...and Go Team USA!!!

Attendance: 8906 - Not bad at all, until the shootout the loudest tOSU fans got was for the free t-shirt toss and the YMCA dance cam but hey at least they showed up in numbers. Only stopped by BW3s briefly to pick up tickets but it seemed like it was pretty crazy in there, still a fun night and worth the trip, Go Hawks!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

8906?!

I guess its official, OhSU hockey fans hate us, more than they do Michigan now.

The attendance for their home Michigan games was 5100 and 4900...

How many Miami fans were there tonight. I guess hard to tell given everyone was wearing red and white pretty much.

Maybe they were just there to support their seniors...I mean, senior. :p

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Yeah hard to guess, I was waiting for a Miami goal to see all the people not in the Miami section stand up to get a better idea...obviously there were some unforeseen difficulties with that plan lol. But defiantly a very strong showing by the Miami faithful.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

I bet they won't top 2000 next weekend ;)

Because of the OHSAA wrestling championships, they get booted out of their home rink. How ridiculous is that? It's been happening for years though.

They have to go play at their old rink, which is, if any of you current students ever saw the old Goggin? Its about half the size of that rink. It's definitely cozy.
