Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

lady and gentlemen :D

just a heads up for anyone who gets fox sports detroit, tonight at 7 PM they are featuring Miami and the brotherhood on CCHA all access. That will be followed by a big big game between Notre Dame and Michigan. Along with the Women's gold medal game between Canada and the USA...lots of great hockey on tonight folks!!

Watched the end of the game, missed the kick though. Rough go for the Swedes, no medals in hockey this year. US with an opportunity to pull what the Canadiens did in St Lake and win both on the neighbors soil.

Checking the INCH chat today, and oh man this is classic. I doubt he actually wrote this, but still pretty good stuff.

Can I go ahead and book my hotel in Ft Wayne?

Mike Eidelbes (2:42 PM)

Yes. The only way Miami doesn't end up in Fort Wayne is if the city is wiped off the face of the earth by evil robots. And odds are overwhelming that they'll be the no. 1 seed there, too.

Great to see head coach Enrico Blasi making an appearance here today, question is do you see him leaving Miami or has this become a destination job now?

Mike Eidelbes (2:57 PM)

I think he's there for the long haul. He's got a new building, established a winning tradition, and luring top-flight recruits to Oxford. He might listen to other offers if approached, but his situation at Miami is really, really good.

The last three years have seen NCAA champions from HE(x2) and the CCHA, with the runner's up coming from those conferences as well. With the WCHA likely to get 5 or more teams into the tourny this year and possibily have three #1 seeds, do you see this trend continuing again this year or does DU or Wisc pull it out this year?

Mike Eidelbes (2:38 PM)

There's no arguing the legitimacy of Denver or Wisconsin as national title candidates and one could make a solid case for St. Cloud State and North Dakota, too. Theoretically, you'd think two WCHA teams would end up in the Frozen Four, but there are so many variables in play -- seeding, injuries, running into a hot goalie. That said, Denver, Miami, and Wisconsin are, in my opinion, the favorites to win the title.

Besides Miami, are any of the CCHA teams good enough to win the Frozen Four this year?

Joe Gladziszewski (2:59 PM)

I don't see it happening. Ferris State and Michigan State are probably the next best option and I don't see them being Frozen Four level teams, let alone winning two games while there.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

Hopefully the student section will fill up before the start of the period for the first time since Christmas :(

I have been wondering the same thing. Where the hell are the students at this year? You would think that since this has been arguably one of our best regular seasons ever that would draw ever more students but I guess not.

After the week I have had I absolutely cannot wait to get to the Goggin bright and early tomorrow. Getting nailed by two exams and my computer motherboard going to crap, hockey will be just what I need.

Also looking forward to heading up to Columbus on Saturday. Should be a great time. Hopefully we can finish the regular season with some style going into the tournaments.

Is it bad I walked to the library just so I could read and post this? haha

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

I guess to most of the students schools such as Lake State and UNO are not "sexy" match-ups like say Michigan State and Notre Dame. But seriously attendance has been pathetic compared to the first half of the year (not that it doesn't fill up by the end of the 1st period which is better then most schools can say), a little more enthusiasm from the student body would be nice.

And in the 10+ hours I spent in King this week I would venture to say that 2 and a half of them were on USCHO, so don't feel bad lol.

Should that happen we might be able to see the smoke in southwest ohio from the whole country going up in flames...

The problem is the season ticket holders, they don't show up consistantly enough, which I think is sad. Haven't noticed the student section being down but Ill take your word for it.

I guess a lot of people don't know much about teams like Lake st. or UNO or Western Mich. Which is a bummer because some of those teams that aren't ND, Mich, MSU, or OSU are pretty good and they would enjoy watching them play.

What is the buzz like on campus? Not there on a regular basis so can't get a feel for the student support.

Remembering back to my freshman year (two years ago) the buzz on campus is way down. Perhaps since we are now establishing ourselves as a top notch program students aren't getting as excited about which is a bit contradictory but makes some sense I guess. All I can say now is that getting a seat in the student section is much easier now than in the past. Hopefully it will be a full house tomorrow ready to give Ohio State some "friendly banter"

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

It's still Miami, I'm sure 70% of the students don't know what days hockey games are played on and once they find out in order to go to a game it would require sacrificing a few hours of drinking they would loose interest.

I really haven't heard much buzz around campus, just the usual "our hockey team is pretty good this year right?". I'm sure it will pick up once the tournament starts, it was all you overheard last year for a couple weeks.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Miami season thread part II: Unfinished Business

During my grad-school days, the best part of the week was Friday night. First, leaving studio early to get to the Goggin around 4pm. After getting wristband, going for a bite to eat. Finishing the game. Going to Circle Bar for brews, watching the rest of the night's NHL games, and playing darts. What else could possibly make for a better night?

no it makes perfect sense, they aren't pumped to be in uncharted territory anymore they expect to be there.

To that point of being established and certain expectations coming along with that, what was with 3/4 of the student section sitting down during timeouts against UNO on Saturday in the third period. I know its been awhile since we were loosing at home but come on.
