Off season notes and news....

Re: Off season notes and news....

In the words of E. F. Hutton (Stock Brokers) - "Inquiring minds want to know" ;)

Actually, that comes from the National Enquirer :) E. F. Hutton was this one "When E. F. Hutton talks, people listen."

Re: Off season notes and news....

That makes for a 22-game conference schedule.

Unless they split into divisions. With two 6 team divisions you can play each team in your own division twice and each team in the other division once for a total of 16 games

The Adrian to Duluth bus drive seems excessive for a single regular season game.

Wouldn't there be somebody in the same neck of the woods who would be a travel partner for a second game on the same trip? SNC?

Re: Off season notes and news....

Does Marian have a club team in addition to varsity? Or are they moving down? Or I am missing something?

Marian University, an NCAA Division III institution located in Fond du Lac, WI, is currently seeking applications for the Full-time position of Head Men’s Club Hockey Coach and Head Men’s Golf Coach. This is a full-time position that will be responsible for overseeing all phases of maintaining a successful American Collegiate Hockey Association hockey program and NCAA men’s golf program within compliance of Marian University, Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference, and ACHA, and NCAA rules and regulations.

Can't find much information so it might be a new team, but according to the ACHA's website Marian has an ACHA DII club team. You'll notice in the job posting that it says the coach must be able to work in cooperation with the NCAA Men's hockey coach, so I'm sure they're not moving down.

Ashland, WI is ~75 miles from Duluth. Perhaps a weekend trip to St Scholastica-Northland?

Re: Off season notes and news....

A very rough cut, barely glancing at a map. Possible travel partners:

Adrian-Trine
LFC-Aurora
CSS-Northland
SNC-Lawrence
Marian-MSOE
Finlandia-CUW (I honestly have no idea who to pair with FU here)

That was the kind of thing I was wondering about. Travel partners would mitigate the problem of long trips to play a single game. Although distances aren't as great in the East, in the days of the interlock, it made it a lot easier for teams to play single games (and they were all single games) against relatively isolated pairs like Bowdoin/Colby

Re: Off season notes and news....

I think it's a shame that the NCAA tabled the 4v4 overtime rule for this year. I don't like the current 5v5 rule as it leads to too many ties IMHO. I don't know that I like the shootout either, but I think I prefer that to tie games.

The coaches (D1 and D3) voted overwhelmingly to keep the status quo.

Technically, there was no vote, yet. But the coaches did overwhelmingly state their opinion they wanted to keep the status quo.

Do I win the nitpicking award today?

You get the monitor the Bill Clinton Virgin Sacrifice Tent in Camden during the Democratic Convention. :)

Clearly the coaches like the status quo - don't take any chances and slink away with one point. Not very exciting to watch. I was commenting from a paying fan's point of view....

Re: Off season notes and news....

I saw that last night. I wondered where Largen was going, and why he left Marian, if it's for reasons other than their chronic underfunding of the program. He did a nice job there last year.
