Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

There's Whiskey dancing the Tango and Foxtrot all over that...

if they don't think someone like Congressman Lewis can be part of the solution, they may as well launch an open rebellion against the US government right now, because they obviously have no interest in working for change within the current system.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

Interesting read from a writer on the left who doesn't consider himself part of OWS, at least yet.

I don't know anything about the movement, and after watching lots of coverage on US media... I still don't know anything about the movement. It's the usual pattern where the right's mouthpieces heads pop off while the center's mouthpieces bend over backwards not to appear liberal. None of which means OWS isn't silly or malignant -- it just means there's no way to tell given who owns the conduits of information, unless you actually go down there and see for yourself (which I'm too busy and/or lazy to do).

The TPers at least had FNC as a cheerleader/astroturfer. Anybody whose goal is to decrease the predatory power of corporations will, by definition, have the enmity of corporate media.

I still the think the best way to achieve real change in wresting control of the US government from corporate elites is for the TP and OWS to ally on the issues they can agree on -- the end of banksterism -- and then fight their peripheral battles (neotheocracy vs, I dunno, ParisCommune revivalism?) in their spare time.

Another interesting take, from Krugman. The bottom line shouldn't be forgotten:

In the first act, bankers took advantage of deregulation to run wild (and pay themselves princely sums), inflating huge bubbles through reckless lending. In the second act, the bubbles burst — but bankers were bailed out by taxpayers, with remarkably few strings attached, even as ordinary workers continued to suffer the consequences of the bankers’ sins. And, in the third act, bankers showed their gratitude by turning on the people who had saved them, throwing their support — and the wealth they still possessed thanks to the bailouts — behind politicians who promised to keep their taxes low and dismantle the mild regulations erected in the aftermath of the crisis.

Given this history, how can you not applaud the protesters for finally taking a stand?

When you stop teaching, requiring, or practicing ethics in colleges and B-schools, this is what you get - unethical, immoral behavior.
As frequently quoted here, Congress should not legislate morality.
Money changes everything, big money even more so

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

Try convincing a single conservative or Republican of anything you just quoted. I bet you can't.
I win the bet.

The main problem isn't left vs right, it really is the 99% vs the 1%. The 1% have been great strategists in wrapping themselves in various dresses: property rights, the free market, economic freedom, but the real poison here puts conservative values at risk just as much as liberal values. It's a question of whether the US economy is going to generate wealth and opportunity for American citizens based on their work and their productivity, or whether it's a feudal system. The end of the American Dream is not left vs right.

Sorry, but no. The 99% needs to believe it's the 99%. Fact is the 1/2 of the 99% that are conservatives/Republicans/Tea Party don't believe a word of it.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

High falutin' rhetoric to describe lazy, unfocused losers who want their college debts forgiven, among other things, doesn't change what they are. Screw 'em. They (and Deadmeat's handlers) desperately want them to be compared to the Tea Party. Nonsense. No Tea Party arrests. No Tea Party crapping in the streets (or on cop cars). No Tea Party "spontaneous demonstrations" causing the closure of major public venues (Air and Space Museum). No Tea Party violence (except the violence inflicted by SEIU goons). No Tea Party anti-Americanism (try finding a US flag in photos of these scummy bastiches). No funding and organization of the Tea Party by major GOP elements (as opposed to Deadmeat's clear use of these bums for his campaign and funding provided by unions, Soros and others).

These are the off spring of '60s demonstrators and so far have generally been treated with kid gloves. We read that the owners of the private park they've turned into an outdoor fornicatorium and landfill are concerned about they haven't been able to get their people in there to clean the place up. Why is that? Why is NYPD allowing these bums to damage a private park without consequences? Why is NYPD not insisting the park be cleaned and serviced? Why is NYPD not putting a hitch in the getalong of these squatters? Where is General MacArthur when you really need him?

All of the mythmaking and Krugmanesque rationalizations notwithstanding, this is a giant Obama re-election effort. And I think George Will has the right idea--make sure the rest of the country knows what these losers are really all about, and they'll make the same essential decision they made in the 70's. There is no doubt John Lewis throws around allegations of racism like a vendor in Wrigley Field throws around peanuts (that was why it was so important to get him outfront with those phony allegations of use of the N-word by the Tea Party. Yet, all these months later, all we have are allegations, no neutral confirmation). Even so, there can be no doubt John Lewis put his life on the line many times during the civil rights era, and nearly lost it. And the idea that those punks in Atlanta were "too busy" with their "business" ("where's the dope, man?") to spend a few minutes listening to him is more than just an insult--although it's certainly insulting, and deliberately so. It is a manifestation of their narcissism and a reflection of how useless and out of touch they really are. John Lewis has spent a life in service to his country. A life that matters. Not a single one of these bums has ever or will ever do anything to benefit his country. Except b*tch, whine, moan, p*ss in the streets, destroy property, both public and private, in service of their empty headed "vision" for Ameri"K"a. Yeah, let's "eliminate capitalism" and "forgive all debt." That'll work.

Glenn Beck called, he wants his derp back.

This one republican circle jerk has enough crazy talking points that Obama just has to go "well remember when this was said?" and destroy any candidate.

Slippery slopes are fun.

But seriously, being against corporations or the super wealthy with the help of the government ****ing over everyone else, is not being anti-capitalist (unless you're a laissez faire tard) or anti-corporation. Just like if some tea party person is against the big government intruding upon their life doesn't mean they want anarchy. Or that they are immediately going to go off and campaign to do so for something they agree with. (Even though there are some that are)
