Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

So, every single person employed by that corporation feels this way?

Of course not. The companies I work for do things I disagree with every single day, from my immediate supervisor on up to the CEO. So what? They are entities completely independent of me. They can say what they think, and I'll say what I think. I have nothing to be afraid of, that someone/something I might disagree with has his/its say. Let the marketplace of ideas sort it out.

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Only the Dems could screw it up so fast. :)

Obama could have made progress on his promises. Instead he was dragged down by ALLOWING his incompetent fellow Dems TO TAKE THE LEAD.
FYP. Seriously - why was this the Reid/Pelosi health care plan instead of actually being Obamacare? He sure seemed like a leader during the campaign....

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Funny, the markets tanked the day after Scott Brown got elected too.

You know, you really should put down your copy of Pravda and read a real newspaper instead. If you did, then you would know the markets going down on Wednesday had nothing to do with the Scott Brown election whereas the stocks tanking the last few days had a lot to do with the messiah's non-sensical plan to punish the banks.

That's one of the biggest reasons I've found him to be such a staggering disappointment. He farms out his policies and ideas to the knuckleheads in Congress, and really achieves nothing. It's also the reason his "plan" to reform the banking/financial services industry was met by a collective, private *yawn*. If he keeps leaving those nasty "details" to Congress, he'll be done in 2.

Again agree 100%. A short list of those who came out somewhere between sarcastically and angrily against Obama's positions having a strong impact on the markets:

XYZ
MinnesotaNorthStar
oneto 7
Paragon of Virtue
LynahFan
Handyman (calling him out here is unfair as he's really never had anything to add to the boards)

I'd like to see MinnesotaNorthstars comments on Obama positions having an impact on the markets.

What'd I do?

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

I don't even know when I said something like that.

Me neither. I've been whining about Obama not taking charge on health care and I've been agreeing with the SCOTUS decision on campaign finance. Haven't said a peep about Obama's largely irrelevant and ineffectual comments on banking. :D

Oops. Guess I'm on the double secret enemies list now!

Because you asked :)

MNS: "So, just by Obama making a speech, the stock market moves. He's controlling it by speech? That's what you're going with?"

PV:" :) It's like how Lewis Black pointed out the stock market went up when Bill Clinton was doing something that apparently isn't technically sex."

LF: "No, no - see, over those 4 days, I've been helping my father-in-law build a barn, and I think that investors have noticed this increase in construction activity and are therefore more confident that the economy will grow."

Presidential speeches regarding policy have always and will always greatly affect daily stock market moves.

I can't remember seeing MNS talk about anything but UND hockey, air traffic control, drinking, Target or getting laid(in his case not getting laid:p).

Really? You can document actual cause and effect? I'd like to see that.

What a frickin' idiot.

I am seriously in awe. Did you just remember that post of mine from Jan 7, 2009 (before Obama was even President) in a thread called "Hypocrites of the Week?" If not, how did you search to find it? I'm honestly curious and am prepared to be impressed if you remembered it.

Like I said hippie, put down your copy of Pravda and throw away your copy of the Daily Worker and read a real newspaper for a change. You might actually learn something.

I remembered it quite clearly. I was of the opinion that presidential speeches influence stock market results (as do a considerable number of posters here)...and while few agreed then, I got freakishly hostile reactions for several days. I remembered many of the names...just looked them up for the quote as you did.

No big deal...I was just surprised at the time nobody could see this. Obama's aggressive position on the banks today resonate in the markets just as the assembly of his economic team did back then.

Well I am impressed - either you have a really good memory or you take this board way too seriously. Feeling in a charitable mood, I'll assume the former. :)

Back on topic: I'd be willing to bet that if you took a survey of actual industry people (bank execs, etc) a very small minority of them anticipate that anything Obama mentioned this week will turn into actual policy. However, perception is everything - Obama says that, so an individual trader might think, "Gee, I'd better go ahead and sell my position on these banks in case everybody else tries to sell and the price goes down." Well, if enough people do that, then guess what - the price DOES go down. Not because they give a rip about what Obama said - only because they're trying to outfox their competition (other traders). All sorts of silly things end up "swinging" the markets not because of their substance, but because of the chess match that's being played between individual traders.

So, got nothing to show cause and effect? Gutless.

I guess this is just another one of those "everybody knows" that it's true.
