Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

what is the difference between socialism and communism? I was taught that communism was a form of socialism.
That's a wonderful way to teach someone.

But basically communism is a very strict and expanded form of socialism where both society and the economy are controlled by the state. While socialism deals only with the economy and the control of or part of the means of production by the gov't or workers.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

There's also a difference in that socialism allows the people the democratic election of their leaders.

This is about right - also within socialism the concept of private property doesn't disappear completely (although it can become severely compromised).

The concept of private property is compromised every time you allow the government, labor unions or other groups to impose their agendas while not being vested in the business or organization they are affecting.

So in other words, you own the company, you should be able to run it any damm well way you please.

So long as you're not infringing on the rights of others as laid out in the Constitution, absolutely.

So since the Constitution says nothing about child labor, dangerous working conditions, and wage discrimination based on gender/race those are A okay?

So let's see, pay 'em whatever you feel like, work them as long as you feel like, they get hurt or sick on the job, fire 'em and get someone else, they don't need any sort of protective equipment, etc.

Let's just go back to the middle ages, why don't we?

You got it. Plante's a nice little free-market conservative.

Yep. That's good too. Lots more profit that way.

......or, instead of creating massive government regulatory agencies for the sole purpose of enforcing an anti-business agenda, incentivize the business scenarios you'd like to see via tax breaks instead of penalties. It'd be far cheaper while allowing the markets to dictate the wanted changes rather than inexperienced, know-nothing Washington bureaucrats.

Yes, because history has shown us how well business regulates itself.

Are you really this naive?

Please show me one instance where tax incentives have been the root cause of corporate impropriety......because I can show you dozens of cases where government intervention has caused major problems......starting with Fannie and Freddie.

Well, when you're right, you're right.

It's too bad it's not 100%, of course, but businesses (and free markets) do tend to self-regulate pretty well.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

and can someone give me an example of how well socialism has worked?

Soviet Union? economy collapsed
China? didn't work until they brought in free markets
Sweden? oops, they are going the other way
North Korea? yeah, right
Warsaw Pact countries? got rid of it the minute they could.
Venezuela? shortages, free press gone
Iceland?

free markets = free people

Yeah, Wall Street's done a bang-up job.

Tha naivete bug is catching fast, I see.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

criminals often win. but markets still control economies best. that pesky supply and demand thing.

Except for Sweden, and possibly Iceland, most of those examples weren't really examples of socialism, but more totalitarian dictatorships.

Socialism allows for free markets, you're confusing it with communism. And you gave an example with China who have moved away from a form of communism towards socialism.

Its easy to do when socialism itself is defined as the intermediary step to communism.

And... god, I've pointed this out since 1999... China is neither communistic nor socialistic... its totalitarian using the trappings of communism... heck, now you could probably call it a fascist dictatorship seeing how it has state corporatism.

-------

Rumor of the day... Congress may have barred themselves from the federal health benefit programs in the Obamacare bill. In other words, they have no insurance available through their employer. Maybe next time they'll read the bill?
