Taxes is stealing?

What do you call something taken from you by force for someone else's use?

Let me put it this way. I was to go up to you with a gun and demand money from you so that I could use it to say, pay for my healthcare that would be stealing. But now, if I have a congressman do it for me its completely legit.

Nice articel by Charles Krauthammer's about Obama's insane nuclear policy.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2010/04/09/nuclear_posturing_obama-style_105108.html

Under President Obama's new policy, however, if the state that has just attacked us with biological or chemical weapons is "in compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT)," explained Gates, then "the U.S. pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against it."

He got it wrong as well. There is a provision in the treaty that if we are attacked by biological or chemical weapons all options are on the table including nuclear. Does anyone actually read the bill? Or is Jon Stewart the only one that does?

I'm sure he read it. He's just an agenda driven lunatic. I suppose we can't expect that same kind of support and class that the Dems showed with Reagan when he announced nuclear arms reductions with the Soviets.

Unless you mean Spin Control, who still hasn't recovered from his usual morning breakfast of Jack Daniels chased by Jagermeister shots. :D

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

It's a sad day when the knee-jerk vitriol and empty threats of a few fringe hotheads encourages one of the few reasonable congressmen in Washington to retire.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

Everyone pays taxes. Payroll taxes are taxes and everyone who works pays them. If you don't work maybe you don't pay Federal taxes but you do pay sales taxes to the state and since the state and Federal coffers are the same thing the way they shuffle things around it is dubious to say that ANYONE gets away with paying no taxes.

Interesting argument--it's OK to tax the lowest earners through a sales tax, but not OK to tax them via income tax. That seems backwards considering everyone needs the to purchase the essentials--food, clothing, etc.

I didn't make that argument. All I said was everyone pays taxes and anyone who argues otherwise is just plain wrong.

we're talking about refunds too...the article from earlier in the week clearly stated that people get refunds greater than what they paid in...we can call that whatever we like...I'm calling that being paid to live here. We won't all agree on that view.

My response was to the comment about the morality.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that you did. However, the fact remains that those in favor of both sales and income taxes have a bit of a double standard to address on the issue. And a VAT will only compound the dilemma.

No, I thought I would just take the word from the Obama administration instead.

"The United States pledges not to use or threaten to use nuclear weapons against (those countries)," Gates said -- even in the case of a biological or chemical attack."

Yeah, it's called the earned income tax credit. You get paid for working, not simply living. It was started in 1975 and was greatly expanded by Reagan (and later by Bush I, Clinton, and Bush II) as a way to encourage people to stop sitting on their asses and contribute to society.

A VAT is essentially a sales tax added along the way and thus hidden from consumers. Instead of paying $100 + tax, you'll be paying $110 including tax. In theory, the intermediate businesses pay part of it every time they "add value" to the product/service, but in reality that cost is ultimately born by the consumer as well.

Sorry, Jager boy, but watch the Daily Show clip. No restrictions in the cast of biological attack. Please address your apology to the White House, care of B. Obama. :p

Color me shocked that a Bush appointee can't read.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

How the EU VAT works.

Taxing consumption is in some ways more intuitive than taxing income -- the former is a unit of "things I can afford" and the latter is a unit of "value I am providing" (or "money daddy left me to feed my coke habit"). According to the EU website small producers don't have to add the VAT to their sales price; in a quick browse I didn't see where survival basics were given any break, but presumably you don't have to provide that assistance in the tax code if you avail yourself of other welfare measures.

I wonder if there has been enough time with VATs in place to study their effect during economic downturns, when you want to encourage consumption to stop the loss of jobs. Same problem with any tax of course -- less money equals less purchasing power -- but it seems much more direct with a VAT.

My favorite part (aside from the Hannity-Gingrich = Beavis & Butthead comparison :D ) is how Obama is advocating the same things as that d@ mn flaming liberal, Ronald Reagan, in regards to nuclear disarmament.

Well Reagan was the Governor of California...a bastion of liberal pot-smoking gayness! Obviously it rubbed off on him and tainted his good conservative notions!

So Gates is a liar. Got it.

Re: Obama 10: Rahm it through.....even in the shower.

The question is what gives the gov't the right to more of that person's income? What additional benefit are they getting?

Not getting their Mcmansions plundered by starving mobs of poor people?
