nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

So you then understand what I'm talking about. Reality. None of the pigs running these sports programs at any of these schools have any intention to live up to their talk. So since it's all about self-interest then start living up to that and kick UAA and UAF out.
If all schools are to put their own self interests behind the group's, isn't it incumbent upon UAA and UAF to close down their programs, for the good of the game?

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

Just so I get this straight, you are calling for your program and your rival's program to fold to save one team? I guess I could understand the whole "show hockey can thrive in the South" thing to allow for future expansion by saving UAH. (also, schtick? I have honestly have no clue, but I cannot think a rational fan would call for their own program to fold).

Re: nWCHA Should Dump UAA and UAF and Admit UAH

I said nothing about it folding. I don't advocate that.

What I really want is for the words of the capitalist pigs in charge to match their actions. Enough with the placating and disingenuous crappola coming out of their mouths. Davyd did get it right ... it's about money. And it's clear from 13 years of association with this forum and online in-general and 30+ years as a UAA fan that an equitable situation cannot be achieved and that in my opinion the majority opinion (fans and programs) would prefer that UAA and UAF be booted. So do it.

There are options for UAA and UAF to continue playing hockey at the same level they play now. They could severe their NCAA association and seek affiliation with either the CHL or the Canadian Colleges. There is no reason that they couldn't use the same financial models as they use now and it's quite possible that they could do better economically in one or the other of those leagues. But that's not what the thread is about.

(edit): Two Major Junior teams in Alaska doesn't sound like a horrible hockey situation.

Oh ... so saying one thing and taking opposite action isn't a lack of integrity. Thanks for defining it.

FAIRBANKS - While he was growing up in Waunakee, Wis., Forrest Karr sometimes headed to Marquette, Mich., for skiing or hockey. On Wednesday, the now 36-year-old took a step toward becoming a resident of the city on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

Karr was named the athletic director at Northern Michigan University, ending a seven-year tenure as the athletic director at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

“I’ll certainly never forget my time in Fairbanks, Alaska,’’ Karr said during a telephone interview Wednesday night. “It’s been a really special special place for me — it’s where I met my wife and we had our daughter,’’ said Karr, who is married to Cara Brunk and they have a 2 1/2-year-old daughter, Callia.

“I met remarkable, inspirational people in Fairbanks,’’ he continued. “The hardest thing about this transition is the thought of leaving friends and co-workers whom I’ve enjoyed working with. I’ll always advocate on behalf of the people of Fairbanks and I’ll always give back.”

I hate to bring logic into a hissy fit, but WHL teams are even less interested in flying than NCAA teams.

It surprises me not that a sniffer of 14/15 year old's jock straps wouldn't understand the thread isn't about that. I made that pretty clear.

Shouldn't you be out combat fishing on the Russian right now?

Actually this wouldn't be a bad time for the UAF and UAA to start their own league. The word is that Barrow, AK is looking to start up a university and they've said if they start a University and can get someone to attend it, they are going DI in hockey right from the word "go". Nome has also made a similar plan to get into DI hockey, but has said they are only looking to willing to commit to an Alaskan bus league due to financial limits on their upstart program.

Well at least that's what I've been hearing...

"It would be hard to see UAA's men's hockey team fold" said no one ever.

Of course I did. If all the games are going to be "in-state" then a bus league makes the most financial sense. And that's what college hockey is all about now... dollars, but not "sense".
