Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

And no one in the B1G saw that vote coming?

Anyway, I'm waiting for the B1G to invite BU to join.:D

Sean

Heck, Michigan and Wisconsin voted to kick them out! Just saying, they were still technically an AAU member when they joined. And as we all know, technically correct is the best kind of correct.

Some of our highest horses were built on the legs of technicalities.

Actually, IIRC, rumor has it the big ten members (Wisconsin especially) led the charge in giving Nebraska the boot. Let that digest for a minute.

Again, I'm not sure that was correct. I think they were given the boot just before they gained formal acceptance into the big ten. (I'm talking the official paperwork and voting.)

"You're good enough to be in our football club, but not our thinkin' club. How many tickets should we put your fans down for at Camp Randall this fall?"

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Ok, looking at the history, I was partially correct. Nebraska was invited to the big ten in the summer of 2010. It became effective in July of 2011. They were voted out of the AAU in April of 2011.

Last time I checked, they were still a member of the CIC.

You're out of your element Donnie.

OK - If Sean was right that HEA was the Great Eastern Schism, then I'll play Martin Luther and start a Reformation/Revolution.

QU goes HEA. The bull is posted on the door of the ECACHL offices.

The NYS ECAC schools decide to form a league within the State. The poach RIT, Niagara and Canisius from AHA to form the ECHC with a 28 game conference schedule.

The ECAC wants to reconstitute by adding Army, AIC, Sacred Heart, Bentley, Holy Cross, and Air Force to go with the Ivy League, but since only one of these schools offer womens D1 ice hockey, the Ivy League goes at it alone.

The ECACHL joins the CCHA in the annals of leagues of fond memories.

It's my fantasy, smile and enjoy!

After seeing the Big 10 discover that 6 team hockey leagues are not very desirable, I doubt even the Ivies would want to create another one.

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

Regardless, fun argument. I stand by my position that the Big Ten should just admit that they expanded for athletic reasons and stop trying to hide behind flimsy at best hypertechnicalities. You can get a fine undergraduate or graduate education st UConn just like you can snooze through a degree at Northwestern. They are all good schools. The bright line in the sand got smoothed over, so they should stop acting like it's still where it was. And now, I go to sleep.

Re: Notre Dame leaves Hockey East for Big 10

The B1G TEN has been asking Notre Dame to join for years in all sports but your refusal is what kept you out. This B1G hockey fiasco let you in with only hockey. I'm looking forward to beating you guys again but I'm still questioning it. What does this do to your hockey broadcasting rights? NBCsports has been doing your games, can you leeave NBC for just hockey? Anyone know how that is going to work?

Notre Dame is keeping it congrat with NBCSN for Hockey. So all Notre Dame home games will be allow to air on NBCSN.

Can't be a crown jewel if they aren't in their crown. Last I knew they were in the ACC for all sports but football and hockey (no ACC hockey league). That will be a slight i$$ue for them getting out of that.

But but but I read on the boneyard that contracts are easily broken and won't hold up in court!!!!

They should have fully joined the Big Ten years ago.

Re: ASU - is there any other B1G non-hockey school that could legitimately have a team 18 months from now to give them 8 teams? If so, would they then want ASU as a 9th team?

Notre dame will never join a conference in football. Why would they share their revenue with other schools.

Don't be jealous. My free hugs offer extends to you too.

Seriously though, don't take as a personal slight. You guys have a good undergrad program and seemingly good medical and law schools. You just aren't a research powerhouse and don't fit the brand.

Holy **** you are annoying

No, UConn doesn't fit because it lacks AAU membership. It doesn't fit because it's not a a research powerhouse AND it's not an AAU member.

Oh, and the academics comes first in the big ten. If it was about athletics first it would look a lot different. Athletics earns maybe $100 million a year. Academics earns $1 billion or more a year in just grants.

This is cute.
