Notre Dame at Boston University 10/20

Re: Notre Dame at Boston University 10/20

Pay no attention to the troll under the rock...

I'll be the first to admit ND fans can be arrogant, especially the ones who pronounce it "No-tra Dame". Most ND fans are simply FB fans and know next to nothing of the other sports, especially ND hockey. We found that out in Denver when the alumni club had a huge crowd and they all thought it was the "in" novelty to be there, but couldn't tell me one thing about their season or any player. I have no use for fans who wear dockers/a skirt and penny loafers/high heels to a sporting event...

That said, seek out the ones decked out in jerseys/sweatshirt emblazoned with ND who are under the age of 60, and you'll probably have a good time. :)

Sadly, the drunk guy or two behind me (with his kids) was wearing an ND jersey, albeit one of those weird "fashion" ones with the angry leprechaun logo and looked nothing like the teams jersey. Nonetheless, I figured he's probably just Typical ND Football Fan #42683. Glad there are some legit followers like yourself.

I never understood those jerseys...the actual ND jerseys for hockey are really nice!

I agree, when I saw them in person last night I remember thinking they were really nice. Not over done, appropriate letter and numbering in an irish style, no giant shamrocks littered all over the place, a nice touch to have it on the knees, overall very simple and classic.

Love the gold helmets, too -- reminiscent of the football team. Also, I think it was Mike Johnson who had the gold pads. I liked those.

Re: Notre Dame at Boston University 10/20

Last night's game was disappointing on several levels:

1) I haven't seen a team this ridiculously snakebitten in my 7 years as a BU Hockey fan. Images of Fratisek Skladany and Mark Mullen began dancing through my head last night (for you current undergrads - THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING!). The numbers are amazing: 3 posts, 2 breakaways, 7 power plays, 0 goals.

2) Kevin Shattenkirk needs to play better. Immediately. I hope this flu bug is the real deal, because that excuse provides the only acceptable explanation as to why he's been playing the way he has been. He's our captain, our most important defensive player. He must step up.

3) Hey! BU! Stop. Scheduling. Weekday. Games. The building looked ridiculous on TV.

4) The ESPNU broadcast sucked. Poor announcing, even poorer camera work.

5) Two games, nothing to get excited about. At this point, the only things I am excited about are our two novelty games this season - Red Hot Hockey, and the Fenway game.

There was a period around five years ago when actual ND replicas were not available for sale, only the faux-jerseys made by Zephyr. As a consequence, I only have one of the faux-jerseys, although mine has a nice monogram ND logo with a hockey stick through it (similar to a logo that ND actually did use for a time with hockey) rather than one of the cartoon leprechauns.

I've seen similar Zephyr jerseys for other schools as well, including BU.

Yup - I've seen the BU one as well. I wasn't aware that those were the only ones available. That is, indeed, disappointing. As slurpees said below, the lettering on the jersey is really nice and the whole uniform is nicely pulled together.

The other team might have something to do with the PP issues... remember, ND had (if I remember right) the best penalty kill in the country last year, and has always been excellent under Jackson and Pooley (who I think is the one that coaches the special teams). And BU did look to have figured something out in the last couple of PPs, as the Terriers where a hair away from having some outstanding looks at goal; it's unusual for the Irish to get pulled out of shape as much as they were.

They're not the only ones available now, but there was a period where they were.

I would imagine that some of the less hooked-in fans might get one of the Zephyr jerseys not realizing that it's not what ND actually wears.

Definitely.

It's insane that BU lost all 5 of its 1st unit PP skaters in the offseason.

I'm scared.
