WCAX video from last nights game for people who could not watch because of the streaming problem.:(
http://www.wcax.com/story/21089387/cadets-cruise-past-castleton

Just wanted to repost here what I posted on last night's score tracking thread regarding the streaming issues last night ...
"A lot of negative comments tonight after a great win ... sorry so many of you had such problems viewing the game ... I just want to clarify a couple of things ... Tanner and I do the games for WDEV ... but we both also work for NSN ... I have been with NSN since 2008 and this season alone I have done some 60 games for them just since the beginning of September ... all most all of them have gone off without any problem what so ever ... Somehow we never hear a word of thanks for that ... It's only when there is a problem that all heck breaks loose ...
I want to state categorically that NSN DOES NOT SUCK!!!! They(WE) pride ourselves on the quality of our work ... I'm not a techy by any stretch, but as I understand it there are nights when the internet inside Kreitzberg leaves a lot to be desired ... sadly there have been several of those nights lately ... our producer on site tonight was busting his butt, struggling to get the necessary connection and ultimately had to go through a phone connection to get us on the air ...
I understand the frustration you feel when something you want to see isn't working the way you want it to ... I've been there, too. I'm glad the WDEV feed is there for you when you need it ... Rest assured we are working hard on both fronts to give you the best viewing/listening experience possible.
Thanks for Understanding!"

Since we are re-posting.....

Last mile bandwidth issues will continue to be a problem as radio and tv streaming become primary means of program distribution. Add live stats and other services coming out of the barn and you can see how it can get out of hand in a hurry.

Most internet providers provide variable service and pricing so host schools can/should offer home and away broadcasters and SID teams a choice of options to meet their needs - and then send them the bill for the meter when it's over... Variable bandwidth and multiple service providers should be on every arena's summer "to do list".

I feel for you Pucky - your production doesn't suck...but distribution issues make it difficult for others to come to the same conclusion... Remain Calm and Carry On

Always calm ... unless I'm outside shaking a snow shovel at the plow guy when he comes back just as I'm finishing up clearing the end of my driveway ... Your ideas are right on ... thanks for posting!

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

We also had trouble viewing the game last nite. Can anyone illustrate how to view tonights game with Oswego and Fredonia. I went to the d3hockey site and it shows the game on video at 7. I also observed that the Fredonia site states no live broadcast tonight.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

lakont- check WTOP website, maybe Oswego has a link, we here in the New England area don't know the answer, at least I don't...

Try the Fredonia site at 7 - they may not have updated their calendar...Oswego schedule shows the Fredonia site for the video link...same as D3. Last night's Buffalo game was on, but late in actually working for most...

George, Tanner and NSN, as I said in one of my posts last night complaining about the quality of the Norwich/Castleton broadcast, I don't normaly have any problems with the NSN broadcasts. Maybe I was so vocal because I was upset with the weather preventing me from making the trip to Norwich, and it was one of the top games I looked forward to seeing this season. I was actually excited about watching the game on the internet because of the fact that NSN does a good job with showing immediate replays of the goals. I stand by everything I said last night about the broadcast, but you do make an excellent point. We, (people in general) complain easily when things don't go the way we want them to, but seldom say thanks when things turn out as we expected them to be. I for one will think twice about complaining so much and will think of all the things that are right instead. Thanks for the reminder.:)

Thanks, I (We) really appreciate it.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Rest assured that Norwich is doing everything possible to put out a first class product. Sometimes things beyond our control cause problems that can not be fixed on the fly. We worked Saturday morning and were able to put a patch on the problem. We plan to review the problem again this week to insure that our next broadcast is what we expect.

It's the only time I've had a problem like this. Even the road games at other NSN clients have been good. It was frustrating, as it was one game I really wanted to see.

Yes most of time even for other sports things are great
Usually there for homegames so that night it was frustrating

Prof, for what it's worth, by early in the 3rd period it was starting to look like the 11-1 game all over again (at least from your seats), but sorry to hear you missed it.

I hope you are enjoying them :D

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

I enjoy seeing people sitting behind the bench in my seats. We gave them to the BLC and they seem to be being used. We've been enjoying watching the games from way down here in Georgia.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

The 2-2 tie with Babson will hopefully be a wake-up call. The Cadets have had a fairly easy time of it so far and they need to bump up their intensity as the playoffs approach.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

The Cadet need to work on the special teams too! The power play really missed Cotnior for a few weeks and the past two weeks the penalty kill looked anemic. Neither one will do well in tournament play at this point. Those two areas may be our Achilles heel.

I think you have hit the nail on the head. Allowing two PP Goals in two attempts is not the level of play on the PK that we are used to seeing. I still remember the years in the early 00's when Norwich would end up with more shorthanded goals than the opponents would score on the Power Play.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

What do you think has changed? I believe that the system is still the same. Obviously the team members have changed, but arguably, we all seem to agree that the boys on the ice are as talented as teams past. Perhaps too much forechecking on the PK, leaving the D understrength in their own end? IDK:confused:

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

I am by no means an expert on these things but both at Babson (and today again at UMass), Norwich has had to play on a small sheet of ice. That is no excuse but.....

I have to believe that these smaller rinks cramps the style of any team so use to more room and their open style of play. But you play where your schedule sends you and while I agree that the stats of reflect that our power play needs a more work going into these playoffs--lets also give some of these other clubs in the ECAC-E some credit.

That was a tough Babson team last night that came out ready to go nose to nose with the Cadets as the score indicates. And their goalie Testa is a great net minder.

I am sure that UMass Boston will be no different today. How quickly the landscape has changed. Ever since his arrival in 2006--Coach Belisle at UMass has improved that club every year from a 5-20-1 record in '07 to an 18-4-2 team this year. That speaks volumes about their recruiting and coaching.

Speaking of those small sheets for those who watched the Fast Hockey broadcasts last night from Babson--it was easy to see how our own Northfield barn is much better for televising. The lighting at "the Berg" is better and the camera(s) seems to be set further back to give viewers a better prospective on the entire game. It is not that the Fast Hockey broadcast was bad---actually their broad caster was fairly familiar with the NU players, he was unbiased and paid the Cadets some nice compliment--just as Puck Voice and Tanner do with our opponents.. But NU facility and our broadcast team just makes for an excellent TV venue.

Now I have to leave my cave in Maine for the game. Go Cadets--lets put the Beacons away.:)
