Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

When I interviewed Mulvey post-game he mentioned how they could hear the crowd going nuts while they were still in the locker room before the game. Crazy atmosphere at Kreitzberg last night. We'll see if it carries over to the home opener next Saturday.

I've never seen this thread so quiet two days before the league opener ... where are you people?

looking foward to great season and especially interested in watching the mulvey line this year--could put up huge numbers .the defense will be better as the season progresses.all in all a fast well balanced team.powerplay should be very good as well.

St. Mike's is a big drop in talent from Dartmouth and UQTR. What I am watching to see is who the top goalie is this year. To date each one has played a period in the two games. I have seen very impressed with Matic Marinsek who has held the fort down in two tough games in the third period. I not sure where he played hockey this summer but he has improved a lot this year.

Parker Carroll only played 7 minutes in first game against Dartmouth. Czarnota played 34.

I'm intrigued to see who coach starts on Saturday as well. From what I know it's still very much up for grabs.

Shhhhh!!!

Shhhhh!!!

It will be interesting. I think Czarnotta was coming on at the end of the season and from my very limited view of the Dartmouth game, I thought Carroll exposed some holes in his game under pressure. Just a hunch...

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

It's great to have hockey season back. I would like to see Matic Marinsek get the start against St. Mike's. He has looked good against two tough teams during pre-season and I would like to get a sense of where he stands skill wise with the other two goalies. I have to say that Chris Czarnota is my favorite in the net, he plays with a bit more confident style than Parker Carroll. However, both are very good and it would be great to have three high quality goalies to chose from. Defense is going to be a question mark for the first few games, but I liked what I saw from the new guy, Erik Lyrvall, and believe we will get solid work from Alec Thieda and Bryce Currier. I have to agree with dwb, Colin Mulvey's line is a fast and potentially high scoring trio. Since he joined Norwich as a freshman, Mulvey has been my favorite player to watch, always hustling and digging into the corners. I think our offense is very solid on all four lines but I am disappointed about losing Lindensmith, he was another great player to watch. Good luck to all the Cadets, let the games begin!

Maybe if the game were with Green Knights and not Purple Knights there would be more conversation

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Great season opener for the Cadets. Great scoring plus great job by Parker Carroll in the nets. That said, kudos to St. Mikes that really came to play. Has to be the best Purple Knights team I have can ever recall.

Actually, asked myself, where this new coach (Damian DiGiulian) came from and naturally was not surprised to see both
Middlebury and UVM on his resume. He has traded in what had been a St. Mike's past reputation of folding early and exchanged it for a dose of aggressive confidence. The score does not reflect that this is a good SMC team and NU will have to see them again. Nice start Cadets. Good job.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

I notice Tory Allen went to the locker room late in the third. Any word on what happend?

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

St. Mike's play greatly improved, but they were tuckered out in the third. Again, Norwich's conditioning very evident. Carroll recovered nicely after the two goals that beat him in the second, had some incredible saves after them. Baldino had a good game to, another hustler like Mulvey and Lawler. I didn't notice Tory Allen going into the locker room in the third, hope he is okay. Good first game for the Cadets, lot's of potential and just needing a little fine tuning. Should be an exciting season.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Damian DiGiulian had a good rep while at UVM and they had some very good teams while he was there. St. Mike's pressure caused some problems for NU and other teams could copy that plan. Didn't see Dean Niezgida or Francois Gatien in the game whom I consider two of NU's top players. NU D seemed to have a off game. Castleton lost to UNE so ECAC E could be interesting this year.

Nice to hear such positive comments about St. Mike's and Coach DiGiulian. The difference since he has taken over is evident. I also agree the score does not reflect what was a really well played game.

Side note: I know many of you long-time posters know one another, and I wonder, does the NU announcer post here? He has a GREAT voice! Enjoyed listening to him (except when Norwich scored) lol.

He posts as PuckVoice. He does have a great voice and does a great job announcing.

It's tough when my wife books me for things on Friday evenings - with the games starting at 5 out here, it will be interesting.

My seats were occupied with appropriate veteran Cadet fans.

Parker Carroll is an enigma to me - it seems like he makes the hard saves look easy, and then gets beaten from time to time on shots that shouldn't beat him.
Good to see Forkey on track early this year instead of being out.

Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's

Norwich's balance on offense this year will be fun to watch. All four lines are dangerous.

McEleney and Baldino both had a plethora of chances yesterday.

Thought Zac Fulton played a great game for Norwich on both ends.

Be interesting to see what happens in goal. Could Coach McShane split Czarnota and Marinsek next weekend and start a 3-man rotation?

I am wondering the same thing!
