Why not talk about the Cadets outstanding first half of the hockey season. I think everyone thought Norwich would be good this season but not undefeated at the break. Including Dartmouth and the Canadian U team they have played six games against upper level teams. No sports team can play a near perfect game night in and night out but the Cadets have come close. Second half of the season should be interesting to see how the injured players are placed in rotations. In reference to first year players Nevin Lawler seems to have no problems playing with the big boys and has improved every game.

I thought they would go undefeated through the regular season and I still think they will.
The speed and talent is unmatched in the D3 world this year. The line of Thomas/Janke/Cotnoir is about as good as it can get.
Could be a good year for Wick if they make it to the big sheet in Placid. I don't see anyone keeping up with them for 60 on a 200x100.

I know I would not want to chase Thomas on that sheet of ice:eek:

All you have to do is use the Team Iceland flying-V defensive strategy from Mighty Ducks 2. Thomas rarely passes. Just clog the middle. Whoops, I guess I shouldn't help people stop the team I'm rooting for.

I hear ya, he does tend to put his head down and GO GO GO, I have only watched him in a few games on the web, but he is to fast for his hands at times, he needs to slow down when approaching the net...Whoops shouldnt be giving away helpfull hints:eek:

kyle would be a more complete hockey player if he would learn to pass a little more often.imagine how good he could be if he could pass like janke.that would be scary.

Kyle Thomas overall game has improved a lot this year and he almost always generates offensive chances when he is on the ice. Just ask coaches who have played Norwich who the player to watch out for and I would guess it would be Kyle. He has also looked very good on the man down situations and power plays. Norwich is very fortunate to have a top level player like Thomas.

I completely disagree. I will concede that he will have the 2-3 most explosive and fantastic shifts/plays every game, but he is still terribly inconsistent. He rarely looks to pass, and he goes out of his way to throw big checks that often lead to odd-man rushes the other way. I get so frustrated watching him. I would take 5 or 6 forwards on the current team over him because of their more consistent play: Janke, Cotnoir, Mulvey, Allen, Duzsynski (best player on the ice last 4 games).

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

I too have wondered whether Kyle Thomas doesn't control the puck just a tad too much. However, the trade off seems to be that whenever he is near the puck he remains a threat opponents just cannot take an eye off even for a second.

Thomas has always been fast but over the summer --he seems to have added more agility and finesse to his play which has made him an even greater break away threat. In a recent game I recall two extraordinary one-on-one "break aways" (one when the Cadets were short handed) and another incident he just split the two defensemen and took his shot. No, he did not score which is my only complaint. Near the net, he just seems to need to take just a split second longer before pulling the trigger. But that will come and wow is he fun to watch.

He's about to enter the second semester of his junior season. To me, he has become more selfish than he was two years ago. If you watch the games closely, you will see that he would actually be more of a threat if he changed his game. He needs to learn to pass the puck and work give-and-go's, using his speed, and he needs to work harder away from the puck, not just looking for a hit or waiting for the puck to pop loose to spring him. If he put himself in the play more, he would have more scoring chances, rather than just floating around. I'm actually surprised that McShane hasn't benched him more. He has sat much better players than Thomas for much less. I would like to see Kyle play more balanced, consistent two-way hockey.

Thats just what I said as well, his hands have to catch-up with his feet, take that extra second when closing in on the net....ugh he will be even harder to defend if he reads this

Listen, I understand no one cares what I think about it. All I'm saying is that it's very frustrating to watch a player with so much raw skill not pay more attention to the finer points of the game.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Kyle Thomas in his Fr. Yr. had 9 assists and in his So. Yr. he had 12 aasists. This year he has 9 assists in only 9 games.I think those are pretty good numbers and certainly show an improvement in his game.

I think he's doing just fine.
