everyone take a big deep breath--hopefully the norwich team you saw this weekend will make the necessary adjustments and the freshmen will make that expected transition to d3 hockey-(some already have).this is still a very talented team.looking foward for the second half of the season.

Now would be good.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Just to put some objectivity into the season so far. Norwich has beaten only one team with a winning record...Hamilton. The other wins are over opponents whose combined record is 19-27-3. In past years, Norwich has had a philosophy of a good defense being a good offense. It ain't there this year, and the mediocre defense is becoming more self evident. Just another wake-up call....but you can't keep hitting the snooze button!

Press-Republican article of the Plattsburgh/Norwich game Tuesday night with some insightful comments by Coach Emery.

Norwich's had problems again with defensive zone coverage which led to a few Plattsburgh goals. Plattsburgh played there typical agressive forechecking game which helped turn the game in there favor. Cards are playing excellent hockey at this time. Norwich has to resolve D issues ASAP. Note-Kyle Thomas wasn't in the lineup for the game.

Implies that the ECAC-E is a one bid conference this season.

It normally has been?

ECAC West is looking pretty for two teams again as long as they don't crucify each other in league play.

As stated eariler about the Norwich fans. I believe they need fan support more than ever this weekend against Bowdoin and Colby. I know I will be there, these kids really need our support. Sometimes seeing the fans even though they are in a slump helps. I hope the there is a big crowd to show these kids how much the area is behind the Cadets!

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Probably more than the MASCAC :D
And the sun will set in the west this evening.
I know. The only hope is for the ECAC-W to suicide against each other. But the SoS may still kill the MASCAC representative.

Right now I think the ECAC W has locked up the Pool B bid - They are pretty much done with the NC part of their schedule, which means that their SOS metrics are pretty much etched in stone. If somebody runs the table in the MASCAC, and the ECAC W all go 0.500 against each other, I think the SOS is still a killer.

Looking at some STATS for this weekends games against Bowdoin and Colby. Bowdoin has a PP clicking at 38.1 pct ( stay out of the box) its PK is at 82.9pct Colby on the other hand PP is at 11.9pct and a PK at 76.7 pct

Prezde,

When was the last time Norwich had seven or more goals scored on them? (No, I'm not being sarcastic.)

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

So I had to go look.
In the Kreitzberg era (since 1998), 7 goals have been given up 5 times. But the end of year results were positive in 3 of those years.

Fri Dec 31, 1999 ROCH.INST.TECH. NC 4- 7 L Won Natl. Championship

Fri Feb 14, 2003 at New England EE 5- 7 L Won Natl. Championship

Sat Feb 19, 2005 MIDDLEBURY EE 3- 7 L Lost in ECAC’s

Fri Nov 16, 2007 at Southern Maine EE 3- 8 L Lost Natl. Semifinal

Tue Jan 4, 2011 at Plattsburgh NC 4- 7 L ??

If you look at McShane's tenure at Norwich, there were another 8 games where 7 or more were givien up. Five of those were in his first year.
95-96 year
Connecticut 5-9 L
Middlebury 3-7 L
Hamilton 1-7 L
Salem 2-9 L
Amherst 4-7 L

96-97
Bowdoin 2-7 L
Lost Natl. Semifinal in 2 overtimes

97-98
Alabama-Huntsville 1-11 L
Alabama-Huntsville 3-8 L
Lost in OT of ECAC final.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Stats are good to look at but what is so suprising is there are so many players back from the NCAA's finals last year. Many of these players are outstanding forwards. I think what the stats are saying is college hockey is a team game where all the pieces have to been place to be successful. Key weekend for the Cadets to try and get to winning games.

IMO, it is all about the team’s confidence in their goalie (which in turn, requires a great goalie). Everything else is just residuals. This weekend would be a good time for them to step it up a notch - and to take care of past commitments, such as a lost gentlemen's wager ;)

Exellent points Norm. Thanks for the Taco Bell info-the $2.00 meal deal is great but I hope i don't have to cross the lake again this year for hockey.
