Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Zach Joy out of Dover NH was a goal scorer last year, so it was no surprise to the Cadets or anyone else in the Interlock. That given, did S. Maine play a nuetral zone trap and is that the answer to stopping what seems to be a high powered Norwich offense?

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Just going from the Cadets look faster and bigger from one watcher of the Maroon & Gold scrimmage. I watched the So. ME vs. Norwich on Video (thanks) and they played them about the same as last year at So. ME. Just an off game or are we expecting too much?

Or maybe expecting to little from their opponents ????

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Fair point. I hope not to offend any S. Maine supporters. Game well played. I was looking for more offense from Norwich based on their recruits and returning players. Maybe I should temper my expectations and respect others more. Thanks for the corrective thoughts.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

USM was also missing their 2nd leading point scorer from last year...Should be back Sat...USM dosen't play the nuetral zone trap...They had a plan and it almost worked...Skate, hit, and don't get caught up in all the hype are all keys...

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Oh not offended, it was a great game played by two really good teams....The goal that sealed the game by Anderson was a thing of beauty....Norwich will be fine and they are going to get everybody best game...

No question USM played like a very good interlock team with excellent goaltending. For Norwich it was there second game, and for a number of key players there first game. Shots on goal count was 26 to 16 in favor of Norwich which seemed indicative of how Norwich controlled play for most of the game. USM goaltender made many many outstanding saves to keep the score close. To me it looked like an outstanding weekend for Norwich which genererated two wins which is all that counts.

Interlock could be a difficult place to get wins this year with USM, Castleton, UMass Boston, Babson, NEC, Williams, Bowdoin, Midd, Amherst, ect. all looking like they will be tough opponets.

Agreed. Anderson's goal was a clinic in forechecking and hustle being rewarded. He was a monster on the forecheck and PK all night. There was a penalty in the second period that he single handedly killed about 20-25 seconds of by relentlessly pestering a couple of USM players along the boards forcing the puck back into the zone rather than up the ice.

Let's be easy about a "number of key" players playing their first game.

Really it was two. Although yes they were big names in Forkey and Thomas.

I would just like to point out that for USM it was the first game for 2 "key" players as well....Jon Rutt, Steve Wiedler...I know you know this, it's for Hawk :)

I would rather not name names but I thought something like 5 players were out including one of there top 3 players. Norwich looked good this weekend and why not leave it at that. I am not sure if others agree but it looks like Kyle Thomas is even faster/quicker this year.

The Cadets had everyone for the USM game

I didn't see Tory Allen out there this past weekend and I didn't see Colin Mulvey come back after he was boarded in the first period of the USM game. What's up with them?

First it is nice that unlike the Times Argus, the "Free Press" is FREE :)

On McShane "he served as a deputy sheriff for his father, the sheriff of Middlesex County in Massachusetts." that ought to keep the players in line

"pursued his master’s degree at Boston University, which included rink construction", I thought I had to work hard for my degree

He isn't interested in becoming an AD is he? - I know a school that really needs a good one ;)

Just thought Alex Dubois was outstanding considering the pressure Plattsburgh brought in the game. He seemed to stay focused and was in good position the whole game.

Any info when Zac Fulton will be available to play. Coach Mike McShane said he might play Saturday night but I didn't see him in the linup.
