attended both games at the gut and was treated to a very fast paced, quick, everything at full speed games.those guys can really fly on both teams.denver had a little more skillbut uvm had a little more grit.very entertaining games.i've seen alot of both d1 and d3 hockey--nothing can top the d3 finals in lake placid last year.what a fantastic place to hold the finals.

The fact it's been multiple years and "The Steak" is still at the forefront of discussion just kills me.

Hockey fervor is building. Formal practice right around the corner. The boys have been training hard off ice. One of the things that I noticed last year, especially in the final, was the conditioning of the kids

Attended the Denver/UVM game last weekend and speaking of roster size Denver U had only 26 players, including 3 goaltenders. Denver skill wise is right up there with UNH, BU, and BC of the teams I have seen. Maybe the trend for quality hockey programs is to recruit only highly skilled players with a small roster size so just about everybody plays. If Denver (D1) can do it with 26 I guess Norwich is OK with 25 playing D3.

As long as the Cadets stay healthy...

Forgot to mention that Denver had 9 NHL draft picks on there roster including 1 #1 and and 3 #2's. I don't know how Denver does it with only 25 since the play was very agressive start to finish in the game I saw.

Good conditioning program to maximize potential to prevent injuries. Obviously you can't prevent all injuries. However, with the proper steps you can guard against injuries that come from not being in shape etc.

Last week I saw a High School team with only about 9 guys (including 3 goalies). I'm pretty sure Norwich can handle running with 25 ;)

UVM currently only has 25 on their roster!

Since the NCAA only allows teams to dress 21 players (18 skaters, up to 3 'tenders) for all but exhibition games, having 4 or 5 guys that sit in the stands is plenty. For Denver, they have 2 or 3 guys that rotate in an out of the lineup, depending on who they're playing, injuries, etc, and another couple guys that won't see action unless the injuries pile up.

25 is fine for NU, any more and you've got a whole lot of very disappointed young men.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

Generally, DI schools can invest far more into conditioning, and rehabilitating injuries, than all but a couple of DIII schools, which also allows a slightly smaller roster.
The last time Denver won, back to back championships, they had a 27 and 28 man roster.

(And Ron, I watched them both in person!)
