Norwich 14-15

So far so good. It has been kind of a good way for the season to go. Ramping up the quality of the opposition as we have gone. Should be ready to go against the Cards on Friday. I hope we can see that game without a lot of buffering.
it isNSN broadcasting this year.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Great weekend of NU hockey!

No doubt those smart enough to listen to Puck Voice's narrative on WDEV have a more professional report on today's NEC game than I could provide. From what I saw, NEC came to play with a "take it to them" plan--so much so that NEC went nose to nose with the Cadets through the first period. They ended up with their single goal lead and about even on shots on goal.

They were intense...and maybe so much that they overplayed their hand. From the start of the 2nd period NEC seemed to have run out of gas. From then on it was mostly all Cadets who controlled the game--as the SOG show. And none of the NEC goals that followed were cheap--all good solid stuff. And this was a very different NEC style of play--in as much as some NU fans agree that in the past NEC have played it bit too close to the edge with a few to many cheap shots.

Not so with today's NEC club. They were very disciplined even when they seemed tired. Both teams were hard nosed but without cheapening the game--at least not that I could see. Good game and more evidence is there is more parody of talent in the ECAC-E than I can ever recall. NEC is far better than their 2-4-1record reflects.

Looking forward now to seeing NU play outside the ECAC in the Primelink--to give us a better sense of our team's talent within the broader DIII. Great game for both NEC and NU.

Re: Norwich 14-15

From what I could see from the video view complement with George's PBP, I think your description was spot on. I was surprised (pleasantly) with NEC's style of play. Last year when the Cadets went down there, they got sucked into playing payback with NEC, and when you fall into that trap, bad things happen either penalties or lack of focus or both. Not this time. Never liked that rink when I lived there, but NU played it pretty well there this time around. Three of the next 4 games are going to be solid tests for the team, with the second Primelink opponent yet to be determined. Looking forward to watching the progress.

Norwich 2nd in USCHO poll and fifth in d3hockey.com poll.

We'll find out real quick where we stack up on Friday when the Cadets take on Plattsburgh in Middlebury. Looking forward to a good tilt! Hope NU brings its A game and gets the turkey legs out from under them quick.

should be a tight tilt, both teams have pretty even scoring up and down the roster, solid d and the netminding may make the difference, not to mention the old special teams,on neutral ice as well...

If Norwich can outshoot Plattsburgh by 2 - 1, then they'll win. If Platty can get 25 shots, they'll win.

Re: Norwich 14-15

So your going with Platty? :(

I have done a lot of things in my life but one thing I will never do is "go with Platty"

#Elmira #Oswego #Norwich

They're a well coached team with speed that is usually very good at executing a game plan. Friday will be one of the toughest matchups Norwich will face all season. I'm excited to see how the team does in their first TRUE test of the season. We'll see where we're at by 6pm on Friday.

If the D and the goalies keep playing like they have been, we'll be in the game with a chance to win.

Norwich 2nd in USCHO poll and fifth in d3hockey.com poll.

Once upon a time I loved this poll. Not sure now but understand every fan's need for momentary bragging rights. But I always worry that this poll can be a distraction for a team who may prematurely believes their own press clippings. In any case, not sure I recall how this USCHOL poll is actually done. Can someone give me a quick tutorial on the polling process? Is this a poll among... coaches, sports writers, etc. poll? Thanks...and have a Happy Thanksgiving.

It's made up of 20 people, mainly coaches and then 2 writers from USCHO usually.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Well that was a letdown after a big win.

Sure enough---but Concordia did a great job slowing down our game in the second period and then tying it up. Congratulations to them--and lets not loose sight of the fact that we still have lots of great NU hockey head of us.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Board needs to be stoked a little this week after Saturday's disappointing tie/shootout-loss.

After losing power in Southern NH on Thursday into Friday night, the Primelink was a treat when the lights came back on regardless of the shootout loss on Saturday. I think shootouts bring a certain excitement to the game, but have become less of a fan of them since the NHL began implementing them a few years ago as it just seems to create frustration among players and fans. I wouldn't mind seeing continuous OT, however I'm not sure my wife would share that feeling as some games might last a while.

Important weekend coming up, and as stated every year - the cadets cannot overlook Skidmore, despite the team struggling to this point. They have a large ice surface and we need to spread the puck around and capitalize on power plays. I think Ostepchuk has taken a slight lead in the goalie race, but Reichenbach has played well and is certainly capable.

Looking forward to another weekend of hockey and another rivalry game on Saturday against the Spartans.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Can never overlook a rival, but what's the deal with Castleton? Predicted to finish 4th in the conference prior to the season, and so far they have been shutout three times and blew leads to St. A's and a struggling Tufts team. It appears that the ECAC-E is proving that its depth has increased, particularly with St. A's and St. Mike's showing improvement, but there still seems to be a huge drop-off after the top three of Norwich, Babson, and UMass-Boston. Though to be fair, having three teams in the top 6 is a pretty high standard to meet.

Great story of the USCHO Frontpage on Austin Suroweic and his grandfather John Ferguson ... interesting factoid ... before his great NHL career in Montreal Ferguson played junior hockey out in western Canada with the Melville Millionaires ... same junior club freshman defenseman Alec Brandrup came from.
