Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

I thought they were the better team, but they made some serious defensive mistakes early and got behind and then tried to play catch up vs that heavy system. It's tough to do. ASU just sat back after the first pretty much. NMU missed several great opportunities in the second to get it to one goal which might have made it a different game. Good luck against BC.

I think it would be foolish if anyone argued who has the better team, has more skill players, etc. I think the season/pairwise confirms that. I thought the key was our goaltending. NMU really turned up the heat on us and Daccord held them off. I thought we sat back a little in the middle of the game, but we win at this stage by being opportunistic. Flip of the script from our game with Lake last weekend. We outshot them 49-21 and lost 4-1. Were outshot by 20 last night and won by 4. Good luck against BC tonight!

Re: Northern Michigan University Hockey 2017-18: The Grant Potulny Era begins

NMU is 31st in the (completely meaningless) USCHO Polls. (Two are tied for 20th). I'd like to thank whoever gave us the lone courtesy vote after having our a**es handed to us by ASU.

Also, it's nice to see that Number 26 Union is rightfully at number 26 in the same USCHO poll. :D

For anyone who wants to argue me that these polls aren't meaningless, MSU Mankato dropped a spot after *sweeping* UAA. They didn't even hold serve by sweeping.

Things have changed since we were there  Its just time to accept it... 4-5 of us could show up in Sec. 16 and carry more energy than the building has seen in a long time.

But hey, very solid start to the weekend so far

Gosh dang it. I would have been there if I wasn't 12+ hours away. Great win Cats! These guys are starting to get me pumped. Get the sweep!

You and me both. (Well, I'm only 8 hours away.)

They looked good on my WCHA.tv feed.

Hockeyville and the Best Taco Truck in the United States...yah der, you betcha!!! Marquette goes bonkers for anything involving online voting and the utter lack of support for NMU Hockey is a slap in the face by this community and proof of what an absolute joke these contests are. Hell, that taco truck even has overpriced, average food, with way to small of portions for me to even pay a visit. On the other hand, NMU Hockey is exciting again. Just what the people wanted, right! There is great beer and food selections inside the arena, we have a jumbotron, and Walt Kyle is gone...so where the hell are the people?

The team this year is far and away the most exciting team I have watched inside the Berry Events Center in the last 10 season. They play hard, create tons of offense and every goal last night was PRETTY!!! Luckily for those late to return many of this season stars are underclassmen so the future looks very bright. It's never too late to rejoin the action and fun, NMU needs your support!

This team has been winning for a solid year. In the 2017 calendar year, NMU was 20-15-4 overall and 17-9-2 in the WCHA. They’ve a record setting goaltender, the #2 goal scorer (Robbie Payne) and the #4 playmaker (Adam Rockwood w 20 assists) and the 2nd place team in the WCHA.

They're running out of excuses. I'm sure they're still holding out because the seats are terrible (height was adjusted in 2002), the sightlines are terrible (they are not), or the glass is crap (replaced with 'seamless' a few years back).

Not sure what other excuses the locals can make.

I remember going to games at lake view when I was a pee wee that were standing room only and unbelievably loud.....
