Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

For what its worth... 2000 students out of the 15000 Undergraduate enrollment at Northeastern is only 13.33% , so for UML to draw the same percentage they would only have to have around 800 students attending the games for the same percentage....

so only 775 more to go!

Any Lowell fans know who will be in goal Saturday night? I have always been more impressed with Hutton than Hamilton, although they are both quality goaltenders.

NU's Undergrad enrollement: 12,560

Assuming we only have 2,000 attending (we had 2,700 or so for Bentley) UML would have to have about 1,545 at a game to match our percentage of undergrads at games.

Same Math, Different Numbers.

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

you'd also have to take into account the fact that students study abroad and also go home to do their co-ops. you're probably looking at something like 8,500 - 9,000 on campus at any given time, but numbers are just numbers and i get the point. i also would like to hear what you UML fans think about your goalies and who will be starting on Saturday.

... and I'd say more than half UML's students are commuters but ok enough with the numbers. As for who will be in goal.. .. I'd say whichever goalie doesn't start Friday night will start Saturday night, but I could be wrong. Personally I'd start Hamilton Friday and Hutton Saturday as I see Hutton as our #1 but that's only my opinion. :o

I think the amazing thing was that we had 2700+ students at the Bentley game, but there was still more demand. The athletic department was turning public tickets over to students at the door, and even when they stopped there were a couple hundred additional students in line. That doesnt even count the people who didnt show up because they heard it was sold out. It was a great showing, and hopefully we can keep it up. Everyone knows that NU has a good fan base, and we travel well. Hopefully we will get a good amount up at lowell, although I think the Jimmy Fallon event at Matthews will keep some students from making the trip to Lowell.

IMO Hutton >> Hamilton. I mean thats just what I've seen vs. NU the past few years but I don't really care for Hamilton. Having said that, UML should start Hamilton :)

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

My predictions after seeing 4 NU games including this one tonight on NESN. They will will win <10 hockey east games. Without Quailer 6f 4in 220 3rd round pick of Montreal they are not going to be able to score enough.

Also newsflash Rawlings sucks! My 17 yo son is a better goaile in the EHF. There are better goalies locally in the EHF Eastern Hocky Federation local jr's On a power play you hug the post on the side of the play. Un ..real who will we be able to beat only Merrimack, Providence and Maine likely.. and perhaps one against BC.

Better luck next year...

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

So far one of the worst I think I've ever seen NU play (but I'm just in my 3rd year so...) and to think we looked so good in the first 10 minutes.

Providence just scored 5 in their 2nd period. Maybe we can in our third?

Yeah, in the first 10 minutes or so, NU was really taking it to UNH, but unfortunately couldn't get a goal out of it. Since then it's been really ugly. It's just one game, though...

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Ugly, ugly, ugly...Rawlings has to improve a LOT for us to do anything this year. Our offense looked alright tonight, but we need to convert more chances if we are going to outscore Rawlings awful goaltending

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Quite honestly I think it wasn't Rawlings that lost us this game. He did a decent job, besides the few wild rebounds and that one goal that was shot from BEHIND THE GOAL LINE... *doh*

We played well in the first ten minutes, and at the beginning and the end of the third period. The second period killed us for sure.

Would have loved to see more NU fans at this game tonight... we were much quieter and less present than our usual dog-house selves.

Yeah, Rawlings gave up one bad goal tonight, but the others weren't really his fault, IMO. He wasn't great, but the team did not play well enough to have a chance tonight anyway. He didn't cost them the game by any means.

I may head out to Lowell to see the Saturday game, so if I do I will look for some Huskies fans to sit near.:)

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Just watched the NESN on my DVR... and I think I change my mind. I saw one puck sneak between his legs, one puck bounce off him from behind the goal line (he should have been hugging the post...) and one that was in front of him for five seconds that he should have covered up before giving it to UNH for their goal.

He wasn't terrible, but he sure as heck wasn't great....

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

I don't think Rawlings was the reason they lost...did he play awesome, no but he didn't lose them the game.

Bad passing, poor power-play, and poorly timed penalties doomed the Huskies.

Like others have said the best part of the game for NU was the first 10 minutes...

Come back strong against Lowell tonight...I ain't jumping ship after one game...let's get off the ledge folks, the Tobin is a pretty far leap...

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

I will second (or third) the opinion...Rawlings did not play poorly. He lost sight of the puck a few times & he's gotta work on those rebounds but he played a decent gm. Remember, if we didn't get those 2 back to back 'too many men' penalties.. this was a 3-2 gm going into the last 5 mins. Playing UNH on their home ice, that's not a bad situation to be in with 5-7 mins left. UNH had the SOG upper hand all night & Rawlings held his own.

I give UNH credit.. they played a strong gm on their home ice last night.. & had just tied the #1 team in the country their last outing. Well, on to Lowell.. Go Huskies

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Too lazy to look- is Rawlings a freshman? If so, the kid needs some time to adjust at this level.

Re: Northeastern @ UML 10/24/09

Rawlings is a freshman.

It'll be a tough weekend for us as Lowell won't be easy for him either, but i think he will continue make the adjustments needed.
