Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

End 2....

Maine 4
Northeastern 1

That was a fun period. Let's do it again.

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Thanks- but I'd rather not watch at this point. Jesus.... Time for Cronin to rip these guys a new one and come out on top and at least end the 3rd with some momentum.

Wow... Pitiful.

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Between period discussion: did anyone else read the article in the BDN today about the football program?

The part that said 43 football players are black, which is roughly 1/3 of the African-American population of the university, absolutely shocked me. Say there are 140 African-Americans out of 8,500 undergrads... that is 1.6% of the school. I realize we are a lily white state, but that isn't good.

which would be right about in line with the state's % of minorities. Maine is either the whitest state in the nation and if not, certainly in the top 3.

Agreed. But do some non-athletic recruiting down in Mass. or something, I'm sure some minority in Lowell would love an engineering scholarship.

Anyways, in other scores UMA 2 - Merrimack 1

It's down to 1/3 now?

My freshman year there were two black kids in my dorm, and both were football players.

Maine is 97.8% white and 1.02% black. I'd expect the University would be similar.

fwiw of the 8700 enrolled, about 88% are from maine... and i amsure they do try to draw out of state students, but if given the choice of umass amherst or maine, as a massachusetts kid, most likely, you're choosing umass

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Uhhhh.... probably a smart delete there KIA. Jeez louise, that was..... not good.

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Why not just call them n!ggers, KIA?

Re: Northeastern @ UMaine 12/12

Penalties:

Newton: 2 roughing, 2 hitting after whistle
Diamond: 5 minute fighting DQ

How does that happen?

Apparently Diamond dropped his gloves but Newton wouldn't.

Stop letting the PC police tell you how to think

uncf.org
is not the uaacf.org

You are talking race, not continental origin
right?
And so was the school in the article

Africans are not necessarily Negros and vice versa

Negro is not a perjoritive, it is a race

Not really the preferred nomenclature, dude.

Dek for tripping, NU 4x3 PP

Quit while you're behind.

Dek and Costa, matching for hitting after the whistle.

Okay are you saying we Maine should just hand out scholarships to individuals simply based on race?

It would be nice to have more diversity in Orono, but let's turn this 180 degrees. If you were of color and went to Maine for a visit, and no one looked like you, would you make Maine your first choice?

I love the University, fell in love with the campus on my first visit, was an out of state kid and have subsequently had a daughter graduate. New England is a small area, people are not accustomed to traveling 200 miles, geography has more to do with out of state enrollment, and the University needs to do a better job to attract kids!

ON a more important note (being a hockey thread) how nice is it to see Maine make a statement tonight!:) This is one of those games where I am sure many were thinking Maine will show their old stripes and just when you think they are turning the corner they'll blow it! Well these are two important Hockey East points and this is a huge win!

No, I'm just saying that there are probably quality minority students out there that the University can reach out to. And I think both the University and its students would be better for it in the long run. That's all I am saying.
