End 2....
Maine 4
Northeastern 1
That was a fun period. Let's do it again.
Between period discussion: did anyone else read the article in the BDN today about the football program?
The part that said 43 football players are black, which is roughly 1/3 of the African-American population of the university, absolutely shocked me. Say there are 140 African-Americans out of 8,500 undergrads... that is 1.6% of the school. I realize we are a lily white state, but that isn't good.
which would be right about in line with the state's % of minorities. Maine is either the whitest state in the nation and if not, certainly in the top 3.

Agreed. But do some non-athletic recruiting down in Mass. or something, I'm sure some minority in Lowell would love an engineering scholarship.
Why not just call them n!ggers, KIA?
You are talking race, not continental origin
right?
And so was the school in the article
Africans are not necessarily Negros and vice versa
Negro is not a perjoritive, it is a race

Anyways, in other scores UMA 2 - Merrimack 1
Okay are you saying we Maine should just hand out scholarships to individuals simply based on race?
It would be nice to have more diversity in Orono, but let's turn this 180 degrees. If you were of color and went to Maine for a visit, and no one looked like you, would you make Maine your first choice?
I love the University, fell in love with the campus on my first visit, was an out of state kid and have subsequently had a daughter graduate. New England is a small area, people are not accustomed to traveling 200 miles, geography has more to do with out of state enrollment, and the University needs to do a better job to attract kids!
