Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

Gotta keep reminding ourselves, this was supposed to be down yr. So the fact we are talking (asking) them to get to post season... and the Ws they do have; i suppose not all bad. I had them pegged at .500 team this yr & they certainly have shown sparks of over acheiving, even winning some holiday hardware.
Then as a fan you get excited and ask for the moon. Fact is, they have a lot of young players; it is a rebuild and if they can surprise toward Feb & March, great. If not - was going to be that type of season. UConn Saturday - game at a time; reset, let's go!

Anyone know what the deal is with Beanpot timing? Looked the other day and saw they’re playing the early game. Am I wrong that the defending champ usually plays the late game?

It helps that the defending champ is usually BC or BU. With NU and Harvard combining to win 3 in a row, this was due to happen at some point.

I believe that the defending champ gets their choice of times. Jack Grinold taught us to love the early game, as it got complete coverage from the media .

AFAIK, there is no hard and fast rule about which teams get the early draw and which get the late game. Obviously, the organizers (i.e., TD Garden) want to sell as many tickets as possible and Harvard hasn't drawn significant crowds since the heyday of the Billy Cleary era. So I think Harvard would get the early game no matter which of the other three is the opponent.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

First things first: Allowing the Fake Huskies 44 SOG is beyond the pale. Defense just couldn't seem to get untracked. Ever since the Colgate game in Belfast, they've shown a tendency to get pinned in their own end for long periods. That needs to get fixed.

That being said, a couple of brutal whistles that shouldn't have been:

--Jack Millea killing play with the puck loose and Vomacka 14 feet out of his net
--Phony offside with NU on an odd-man rush late in regulation

But really, this team should never have let itself get into a position where fake whistles even mattered.

As a former referee, who watches the refs almost as much as you watch the players, what kind of inconsistency has occurred when 8 penalties are called in the first period and none in the second and third periods? Then a call is made in OT, which seemed weak, leading to the final powerplay. If the refs had a game plan of their own, they executed better than either of the teams!:(

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

The holding penalty on bucheler (which resulted in ot goal) was bs!
I actually thought he played it textbook. Don't know what the ref saw except for the uconn player running out of space as he was angled & falling on his own into our net so as not to run pantano over. he sold it pretty well looking up at the ref from the netting. weak, weak call but kid had scored 2 goals on us so there's that.

hopefully these things balance out over the season (they seem to) & i am hoping we get a few breaks the other way as well.

in the meanwhile, doesn't take away the sting. we certainly had our chances - didn't get the bounces to put it away in regulation and then ot happened.

Neutral fan and I thought the holding call was brutally bad in OT

I was actually more incensed at the phantom offside call that killed a promising odd-man rush in the final minutes of regulation. Thought Solow might get an unsportsmanlike minor for chirping at the linesman. But like I said previously, it never should have come to that.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

I was at the Husky v. Husky game yesterday. After the teams left the ice following UConn's winning goal and with Millea standing in front of the visiting team bench, the NU coach verbally/loudly let his feelings re: Millea's OT refereeing be known from the door of the NU bench (which he slammed twice before leaving the area). I wonder if there will be a response from Hockey East?

I just cringe whenever Jack Millea shows up. King of TickyTack.

Was playing around with the PWR predictor today on CHN and not that it's breaking news, but every game from here on out becomes massive for our at-large tournament hopes. Need to take care of business in the games we should win (Maine/UVM) and need to at least split in the tough series (BC/UML/BU). A win at home against PC next Friday would be a nice start.

2020 recruit Ross Mitton has decommitted and has signed an NLI with Colgate

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2019-20: Reloaded...and Still in Love with Stacy's Mom

NU & BC both with back to back OT losses. Both with tough match ups upcoming - we getting PC & them getting UMass before the 'pot.
NU, let's please not get any hat tricks with this trend!
Kudos to Maine & UNH.. both teams playing well. PC & UMass always tough. Lowell & BU nothing to sneeze at. Quarterfinals going to be tough battles; hopefully make for some awesome college hockey. Let's go Huskies, let's make something out of rebuilding season!

UConn loss cost them home ice and NCAA tournament bid.
