Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

thx for the recap, that happened.. again. :)
well, on to league play. our nxt opponent we should get points from.. but then i thought we should've had 2 pts from UConn as well. Last time we played UVM, we beat them by 1 goal.. scoring a grand total of... 1 goal. They are playing better hockey having just beat UNH (who is also playing much better themselves, of late).

Here's hoping the offense has found its groove back, some. Primeau looks calmer & settled. Short week but we need pts this wknd. One day at a time. Friday first. Go Huskies :)

all Vermont, beginning of the wknd series. NU looking sluggish.. be it the short week, maybe the Beanpot hangover.. its all Catamounts early. hopefully Huskies can find their legs here tonight. UVM playing with desperation & energy.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

i thought UVM outworked us tonight.. for about 45- 50 mins. NU started to take advantage of chances in the 3rd & glad they were able to. Not their best effort but found a way. gm seemed like a snoozefest at times (except for the 3rd). Happy for Filipe, Picking & Griffin. Picking's 2 on 1 snipe was just dirty. Glad to have him back. Back at it tomorrow.

edit: want to add, if the guy in net isn't Primeau tonight (all 3 periods), you can bank on easily reversing the score.
NU needs stronger starts & sense of urgency, each gm.. down stretch run.

I agree with Northeastern without CP this is a loss. I think of the 2 losses that are killing us the 1 zip loss to Merrimack with some of the studs playing Jr. and the annual bean pot sandwich loss to CT. you add those 4 PTS to our tally and we are in 2nd place. That said, we seemed to play w/o any urgency. Also, I think the worst play was our transition in the N zone, a couple of the boys were blocking shots aside from that I am happy with the 2 pts. Back at it tomorrow, and we can still haev a 4 pt weekend, it just doesn't feel all that cozy!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

I think this is a tough weekend, and tomorrow wil eb as well. Having that Monday night game, kids are probably a little tired. Need to push through it, come out with the W tomorrow night and get some rest for UNH next weekend.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Needed to win that for the points and to not have another PWR anchor. Good job by the defense to lock down and shut down a UVM press in the third. Big late save by CP on the powerplay sealed it for me. Filipe with the GWG, another goal from close in near the crease. Hopefully that's his new office, he'd thrive there. Good sweep. Onto UNH!

both goalies playing very well tonight. Primeau making just couple more saves than Lekkas (some big saves down the stretch especially). Tale of the tape.

NU offense still needing some work. Team overall with better effort tonight i thought, against a gritty UVM team. Hopefully they will figure it out down the stretch, but thankful for the pts during short week.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Hey...better effort tonight or as JM will say compete level, which could be a drinking game word! That said, its a needed 4PT weekend! We need to close out down the stretch with some W's!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

That just might be the best tied-for-ninth-in-the-standings team I've seen in awhile. Stefanos Lekkas has a way of making NU scratch and claw for every grudging goal he gives up. With all due respect, glad to see him walk out the door, for this year at least. But on the positive side, a badly needed four-point weekend to add to the post-Beanpot glow. Strong game from Matt Filipe, who hopefully is finally becoming a force to be reckoned with.

See I thought that everyone not wearing 40 was pretty bad.

I agree with this. Some guys have above-average and league appropriate skill (Esposito, Coughlin, Massie, O'Donnell) but otherwise I was thoroughly unimpressed with the talent and systems UVM put out there

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Agree in principle with the last two posts. That doesn't change the fact that UVM somehow makes NU scratch and claw every time these two teams meet. It just seems to me that all of the UVM games over the past few years have been high drama.

so, 2 gms at UNH. The big ice at the Whit can give the D fits (although it is awesome if you're a skilled forward/ line). NU has struggled in the past up @ UNH. Especially the PK, lots of ice to cover. I hope our practices this week are fast paced (lots of conditioning) & maybe they can rent some ice up at the IceCenter in Salem or something similar. It has equal ice surface on their big rink, to the Whit, & the drive's not too bad between the two rinks.

Would help the team out some, get some skating done beforehand on a big sheet. Anyway, here's hoping for least a split or better nxt wknd. Best to the Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Both teams desperate for the four points to secure their chances at good playoff position and home ice in round one.

UNH has been inconsistent this year but they are pretty well-rounded in terms of scoring and goaltending. Their defensemen, outside of Gildon, don't do much offensively, but he does a ton. Their forwards are like ours in that there is not one superstar scoring goals every game. Four 20 point scorers, and four more at 15 or higher. Their goaltender, Robinson, has been solidly above-average this season, and is another tall athletic goaltender who can keep them in the game.

I predict NU to at least take 2 points, likely 3. If they sweep I'll be pleasantly surprised.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Important win over UNH tonight puts NU temporarily in third place one point ahead of PC and one point behind UML. Also opens a four-point gap over BC, which lost at Maine. Encouraging to see more strong games from Liam Pecararo and Matt Filipe.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Another 20 win season (back to back), can get used to these.. take 'em while we get 'em :)

Pecararo showing some skill on the big sheet. Nice to get some offense going. Well done NU!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2018-19: New Breed, Old Snarl

Did not expect to get 4 points this weekend. That was 11 straight unanswered goals for NU, a dominating show of offense as well as stifling defense. Good to see Griffin getting on the scoresheet more. Darn good weekend as we get towards the end of the year. Big wins for HEA and PWR alike.

On to BC
