You WILL have to deal with their size. Typically this is done utilizing speed; however, if they're big AND fast it can be difficult to find open space and scoring opportunities. I know from years of watching Western teams that it is always an adjustment, because one expects a "big" team to be a little bit slower, but this isn't always the case. Think of Providence with more speed. I think the game is going to come down to match-ups, and having the last change should be a big advantage to get Gaudette's line out there against players they might be able to exploit.

Things have started to even out in the last decade, which, I believe is due in part to the underage draft. It's tough to "predict" what someone will become at 15. In the "old days," the Western teams were stocked with big kids, mostly from Western Canada who were older and more physical. With the talent more spread out and more parity now, the Eastern teams have started to "catch up." But, as you can see, the West has still won 71% of the Division 1 National Championships.
