Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

I really liked his on-ice game and the way he comported himself off the ice. Too bad it had to end due to injury but life--especially the hockey life--isn't always fair. I'm assuming NU will continue to honor his scholarship (if he had one) and that he'll at least come away from this with an NU degree. All the best.

Enjoyed his 2014-15 skating/ performance in what was otherwise a up & down season.. all the best #27.

NU didn't sever the relationship.

This is gonna be a fun game. Will definitely be at Matthews for this one

If the first third of NU's season goes as well as many of us expect and Minnesota does what Minnesota usually does, this game could well have national implications. So maybe Thanksgiving Dinner at Chicken Lou's and pushing the trip to grandma's back to Saturday??

I can think of one Pioneer, er, Huskie, er Gopher who is very happy that the Doghouse will be minimally populated for that game.

Unfortunately for that Gopher, we have a megaphone and no background noise to hide what we're saying to him. It's going to be a long day for said Gopher.

It may not be the Doghouse he has to be concerned with! I have the distinct impression that his leaving was not greeted with wails of sadness by his teammates.

Who's the transfer?

And then there's L'Affaire Szmatula. So maybe Thanksgiving Dinner at Chicken Lou's and pushing the trip to grandma's back to Saturday??

Previous post edited for completeness (Can't believe I forgot about the double prodigal.)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

I wonder if the article is worded correctly. I can understand how the NC$$ can prohibit an athlete from playing, but does it have the power to prohibit him from "enrolling"? He sat out a full season, so that requirement was fulfilled. He wouldn't have been admitted if he couldn't hack it academically. Might Maine have been lax in its paperwork? NU?

Anyone have a clue?

I believe that once you leave a school and you want to transfer but you don't have any offer in hand for the next school year then then you HAVE to still register at an accredited school to maintain your full eligibility. Pecs may have registered too late to be eligible for this Fall.

When did he commit?

He's probably not enrolling because he can't afford it.

To answer your question, Pec was actively recruited by several schools in the fall and committed to NU in late December 2015 or early January 2016. Since he is a scholarship player, finances would not have been a part of his decision not to register (if, indeed, he did not) UNLESS the NC$$ wouldn't allow him to use the scholarship until he became eligible to play. That sounds like something those nasties might do:mad:

In a totally random conversation this weekend at Fenway with a BC wienie, I learned that it was an issue with the course work that he did while in (Waterloo) to maintain his eligibility. He is rectifying that deficiency this Fall.

I would have hoped that he would have been ranked higher but then I remembered how USA Hockey has a vested interest in making sure its NTDP kids get all the accolades.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2016 Offseason Thread: Building Momentum

It's hard argue with that statement given that 6 of the top 10 are from NTDP. It's a cheap form of advertising/testimonial to help them attract top players. With all its touted freshman, bu better win Hockey East at a minimum or DQ will have some 'splainin' to do!
