Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Voss wasn't very good at PC this past Saturday...he calls everything and has replaced Hache as the worst HE ref in my lifetime!

The problem with the Beanpot call, as has been rehashed over and over, is that that wasn't the call they made all game. There were very, VERY few penalties called in the first three periods and then they changed the threshold and called that in OT. Had they called a ton of penalties in the first three periods you wouldn't see as many complaints about the call in OT.

Firstly, please excuse my ignorance on this subject. I've heard that playing these extra playoff games could be very helpful to our pairwise situation (assuming we move on against MC). Question is, if we beat MC, will it help us any more because MC has beaten ND, PC, Quinnipiac, Minnesota and tied BU? If so, it seems like those are definitely quality wins by MC which in turn means that if we beat a Merrimack team that has defeated ND, PC, Minn that will move us up? Am I totally off the tracks with this?

I don't know if MC's quality wins will help us at all, where we stand to benefit is in the RPI. By winning two games against a decent opponent (at least in terms of RPI) that should improve our RPI, which could in turn flip a few comparisons for us since RPI is the tiebreaker and we're losing a number of comparisons on that.

I do think we need to win in 2 to see any bump though. Lose one and we're likely to remain pretty much where we are now.

Ha, when it comes to wins, we Warriors fan lack in quantity but make up for it in quality.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

So I just ran NU winng sweeping, Vermony sweeping, Michigan Sweeping, North Dakota sweeping, Bowling Green sweepingf, Harvard Sweeping, and dartmouth sweeping. NU moves to #17

Buccigross, who watches more college hockey than any of us, thought it was the right call. I thought it was borderline and was only made because he let the clear Saucerman hook on Eichel two seconds earlier go without a whistle. That whole play was set up because Eichel blew by Sauce. Which brings me to the real point: what was worse, the call by the ref or JM's decision to match up Saucerman with Eichel at the start of OT even though Eichel had blown by him every other shift that they were matched up during the game? Those are the in-game adjustments that are so obvious to others watching the game, but that are never made by the NU coaches. Benning and Sauce are never held accountable. The other Dmen are held accountable and can sit for long stretches if they are having difficult games. I just don't understand it. Everybody should be held accountable. In-game adjustments should be made. Players skating the best in a given game should get more time and those skating poorly should sit. Kevin Roy is a superstar and you live and die with him. Nobody else on this team should have that status. I'm hoping for a fast-paced wide open game tonight. We have so much more offensive talent than them. But if we get into a tight, grind-it-out type of game, I don't like our chances.

1. I'd be willing to bet most people here watch more college hockey than Buccigross. He's become the face of college hockey because he's the only ESPN personality who even remotely cares about it. I'm glad he gives it exposure but he is by no means an expert.

2. I think Benning/Sauce get a pass because no one expects them to shut down Johnny Gaudreau or Jack Eichel or even Devin Shore. That guy's not on the roster.

3.IMO Szmatula is as important as Roy. NU is at its best when 12/19/17 are producing and its the best defensive line on the team. You're right, no one can touch Roy's offensive game though.

Step 1 is win tonight. Nothing beyond that matters at this point.

Agreed on Szmatula, but he never has to get the superstar treatment, since he always goes 100% and never takes off a shift.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Tanner Pond making a cameo appearance. Very interesting. Rosenthal is a far superior player, so there's something we don't know.

almost 9 mins of PP.. no set up.. Huskies did not look good on that extended powerplay & Warriors with a nice kill. No easy games in hockey east.

totally lackluster effort & first period thus far by the Huskies. Warriors winning the physical battles.. nice job by them.. not so much, NU.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Tirronen playing very well for Mack.. we're almost halfway through the 2nd.. still 1-0 Warriors.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

impressed by Merrimack's forecheck.. keeping everything NU to the outside.. another PP opportunity for NU.. nothing doing. Non existent set ups..!

entire 2nd's been in the Mack zone it seems at times.. Tirronen standing tall thus far.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Warriors capitalizing on every opportunity..!
..getting the bounces to boot.. 2-0 Mac.. Almost end of two periods.. not looking good for NU tonight.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15 Season Thread Part II: It Ain't over!!

Warriors can smell it now..
getting some offense going.. 'Mack hits the post. Barring a major comeback (and being able to get couple quick ones by Tirronen), this looking tough..
