tie

nice to see some resilience @ home in overall sloppy performance. Madigan continues to look clueless.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Hard to comment on the relative pluses and minuses of either team considering the fact that this was the latest Kevin Shea officiating disaster in a long line of Kevin Shea officiating disasters. (He's the guy that penalized Josh Manson vs BC in the Beanpot a few years back for an absolutely textbook hip check.) Not to excuse the PK but the boarding call on ZAR was marginal at best and a major only in KSs dreams. On the other side of the coin, the guy took away a key Larries PP with a phantom interference call at a key point. Nothing like taking a game that is literally playing itself away from the players and making it all about you, eh, Kev???

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Hard to get teams at our level to come in when we get officiating disasters as we did last night. If i am St. Lawerence I am annoyed that we gave up a 3-0 lead, and had a goal waived off that should have counted. NU got some nice home ice advantage last night for a change.

Every loss is not a JM must go, and every win is not he should stay. Hard to enjoy the season that way. His overall record will speaking for itself.

They fought back which is nice. Rather not go 0-7 on the PP, and 3-8 on the PK, but so be it. Its one game. Both units had been pretty good prior to break, lets see if it becomes a trend.

St. Lawerence has been a good team this year that is basically missing a difference maker or two in their forward ranks. Look at their record and the teams they have played. Its impressive and every game they are in it. I will assume that NU took them lightly, all the penalties took the flow out of the game which is important for us, and that we come back stronger tonight.

Good posts from both of you. I agree with both of you. FWIW, I thought Hansen was just as bad as Shea and I believe he was chased out of the ECAC officiating ranks for making it all about him. I thought the 5 on NU was the right call only because there is not supposed to be any discretion when you get HFB into the boards. You have to protect the players and Hughes was tangled up and off balance with another player when the guy came in and hit him. I think the HFB on Hudson was in open ice and the guy just went airborne awkwardly into the boards...5 would be called 5 out of 10 times.

Absolutely agree that was a phantom call for interference at the end. In fact, I think it was a textbook dive. I also thought the goal should have counted! But, the bottom line is when you have a team down you have got to put your foot on their throat and finish them off. We didn't and gave up the win. SLU is a very young team, but that's no excuse, they just weren't ready to play the 3rd and NU was. Gorgeous shot on your second goal. Horrible mistakes by us on your first and third.

Not a game to be proud of for either team. Let's hope for more passion, intensity and flow tonight!

I agree with basically everything here. Well said H01. I went back and watched the stream and when the camera panned the bench, JM was actually pretty engaged w his players. Nice to see. Officiating was terrible, but at this point, that's the norm. Hopefully tonight is cleaner, smoother, and we can come away with a W

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Nice to see us go ahead & stay ahead. Great to have Kevin back.

3 out of 4 pts from a gritty SLU team. Yale will be a bigger test as they are far deeper. They just beat Vermont (which is a good team) and beat Harvard @ home earlier (which is a superb team).. they are 4-1 on the road thus far & they will be ready. Pls do not take them lightly.

Get rested Huskies & hopefulyl ready to give Eli a solid 60 minute ..disciplined ..effort. Let's get to .500 baby.. & go from there!..

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

..actually hoping Yale is looking ahead to the Harvard gm at Madison Sq Garden in a few days & we can get one by 'em Tues.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Congrats on the win tonight. Both teams were dramatically better tonight and so was the game. Frankly, I thought SLU deserved a better outcome tonight if not both nights, but NU won a key battle at the end and your guys buried their chances. We didn't. We beat Yale two months ago. They don't have the top end guys they have had the last few years but they are still good, fast and maybe more balanced than past years. They are playing better than us at the moment. We are in a slump and Friday night was a low point for this team showing no compete level in the third and at times in the first and second.

Hope we see you guys again soon in a NC games. Good luck the rest of the way.

I just cannot believe how a school your size has been able to make it to the frozen four 8-10 times & the national championship twice. good for you.
just hoping nu can get to the big game once in my lifetime .. heck we just waiting for a beanpot (since your last NC game! :)) ..which also will not happen this year for us.

g'luck to you guys as well. see you nxt season.

The big reason both teams played so much better is that the two referees were, for the most part, letting the players play and, unlike Friday night's crew, weren't holding a contest to see which one of them would make the most ticky-tack calls. Good luck to you guys too. The SLU folks I met over the weekend were genuinely class acts.

The refs were definitely better...its virtually impossible they wouldn't be. I do have to agree with the Saints coach in the recap though...I thought it was equally frustrating on Saturday because they were very inconsistent. They called some obvious trips both ways. But in the defensive zones I thought there was a clear double standard. SLU played better because I can't imagine it was a happy scene in the room after Friday. If they came out flat, I'm sure the coach would have showed us a new level of rage. I also thought Northeastern had a better game plan and better execution and the PP was pretty effective and when they weren't Roy made a pretty good individual play.

I am pretty sure SLU had a goal at the 10 minute mark of the first that was pretty clearly in and out off the top bar in the back of the net. I am surprised SLU didn't call for a review. There wasn't a whistle for a solid 3 minutes after it so maybe they didn't bother.

You guys have a nice little streak going. We have a nasty little slump. Hope we can pick ourselves up and break out of this as we have nothing but league games left now and a top four finish is almost essential to go anywhere. Even with the loss, SLU put in a much better, more disciplined effort on Saturday.

Love that name Saucerman...we should have recruited him just for the name.

You may not have the team of BU or BC, but the location of Matthews can't be beat. I was oblivious as to where we were when we played there last in 1989 and I was on the bus. A few minor upgrades and I'd take that place over Yost.

As for the past success. A lot of that is that we had the best coach in the game from 85 to 2012. Our proximity to Canada helps. But its all about recruiting. We are on the upswing. 17 of the kids that saw ice time this weekend are Freshman or Sophomores and we have some very nice kids committed. Hopefully that puts us in the hunt in a year or two. If not, it's still a fast team that is entertaining to watch.

Best of luck to the Huskies down the stretch.

Although the odds are against us, don't give up the hope for the Beanpot, im not calling the win, but lets get the Dog house fired up and hope for the best. #GoNU

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Heading up Tuesday for the game, what are my chances of showing up at the Camden St. lot and getting a parking spot around 5:30? If not, the garage next door? There doesn't seem to be many tix sold for the game, so i would think that Camden would be the best place to try first. Appreciate any help and will reciprocate if NU comes down in 2016. Looking forward to a good game between two surging teams! BTW which end does NU shoot twice?

As a student who never has to deal with parking, the lot always seems fairly full. But we don't fill in the arena (the amount that gets filled at all) very early, I'd imagine you could wait until past 6 and have no issue. Possibly later because it's a weekday game.

you fill it once a year, this year that would be Friday night. Big weekend for both teams . Should be a great weekend of hockey as it usually is when these two go at it.

The sad truth of the first part of this post hurts, but sometimes the truth does hurt. It should be a good weekend though, I agree. Santini back for BC is a big factor, while NU has begun to find offense. Looking forward to a good weekend.

Gotta focus on Yale tonight first. I'll be at Tue game, might be cutting it close to gametime. I don't expect much of a turnout, but I'm more worried about the on-ice product. Hopefully they aren't looking past the Bulldogs to the beagles.
