Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Saw on the latest CHN blog post that QU has taken 62% of all shots in their 4 games this year, one of the best possession teams in college hockey. Could be a long weekend if we play like we did the first three games. Gonna need the team to show up like vs UMass, or even better, to snag a W

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

QU is a very good team that has some dynamic forwards hopefully the coaches reviewed the CU tapes. We will need to have our goalie play extremely well as they will throw allot of rubber on who ever is in net. As I stated before it will take 4 goals for us to get a W. Unless our forwards start putting the puck on the net it will be a long weekend. Plus if we go 0-whatever on the PP this weekend than it will be a long weekend as well. Hopefully we get some puck luck and our best players outplay there best players.

Sam Kurker commits to NU. Former bu F. Blues 2nd round pick a couple years ago. I imagine he's coming in next season?

QU is another team that has the potential to be very good, but hasn't put things together yet. They lost a ton to graduation and pro defections. Peca and Anas are first rate and some of their frosh are supposed to have real potential. Their achilles heel is their defense and a goalie who has been shown to be mediocre. If we are going to end our offensive malaise, this would be a good time and place to do it.

Sounds simple and cliché but our best players need to play like our best players. 1 point in 4 games for Roy and Szmats each is unacceptable. They play well this weekend and we have a chance.

I like them keeping the lines together this week. Keeping those two together is key to getting them playing better.

Gotta say though, maybe time to change the tag line there Thiessen? Dont think that third goalie has earned that spot yet.

0-5. Worst start in school history, beating out 4 diff times we started 0-4.

Who still wants to defend this guy behind the bench? Time to send him back to the development dept. for our business school. Bring him in to close some recruits during visits.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Slow stream tonight on the Bobcat web site, but same and now somewhat predictable result, actually it reminded me a lot of the UMASS game. However, a great 3rd period and Cockerill looked really good. Roy finally gets a goal and hopefully that hopes to get him untracked but let's face it it’s still 0 and 6.

PP and PK need work but again, D Roy played well and I see no reason to return to Witt, he gave up 1 on the QU PP and 2 other one timers form the left circle but did face like 35 shots. At least we have something to build on for tomorrow, clearly this team is going to have difficulties in HE this year! I just look at the schedule and see the reality of it. You are not going to win in HE scoring 1 or 2 goals a night. However the last 10 minutes of the 3rd gave me hope that they can compete. That said, this QU team is good but not great. Even in this loss, I think they did play the best hockey they have played so far this season, but I can see the desperation. The reality is that by the break this team could easily only have a couple of wins. The way I see it, Lowell will dismantle this team next weekend unless we really figure something out this week. I suspect those games next week will tell us how much work this team needs in all phases of the game to compete with the top teams in the league this year. Also I still think K Roy and ZAR need to be on the same line to generate more O.

Fair, a bit of wishful thinking on my part. I originally had Rawlings on there after his freshman year shutout of defending champ bu, so I've certainly been wrong in the past.

As for the game tonight, more of the same. A lot of running around in our own zone, a bad power play, some isolated moments we're we looked pretty good, a decent game in net for DRoy and ultimately a loss. I'm getting really sick of watching this team try to run a 3 on 2. What percentage of the time do they get a SOG? Can't be more than 25%.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I really wonder why some fans here expected a quantum leap from this squad, this year. We are still at least two seasons from having enough talent depth to be considered a possible threat. Goalie? We don't have what is considered a stud lined up until the Primeau kid arrives in 2017. (If he gets here.) Defense? Who's a stud? Who's a rock back there? How long will it be before the current group is graduated out to (hopefully) a more talented group (emphasis on GROUP) is rolled out? Forwards? How many of NU's first liners would skate first line for BC, Minn, etc? You can argue Roy, of course. Now go line by line. How many of NU's could skate the same role at the better programs? Not many. We're still a couple of years away. Can Madigan/Keefe now and you're restarting from where Cronin/Madigan started when they inherited empty cupboards. If you're serious about wanting to see this program get better, you have to give Madigan a couple of more years. Why? As long as Roby is AD, you're neber going to get the kind of hire for Coach that this position needs. Madigan is as good as it's gonna get until Roby is gone.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

The problem with Madigan is, can you honestly say that the team is where it should be based on the classes we've had coming in? I don't think many of our players actually develop and improve while they play here. Do you think Roy is a better player than he was two years ago? How abut Reid? Benning? Getting better players doesn't mean much if they're the exact same player for four years and every other team improves.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

...As long as Roby is AD, you're never going to get the kind of hire for Coach that this position needs. Madigan is as good as it's gonna get until Roby is gone.

That says a whole lot and it's the absolute laid-bare truth. Go back to the time when the Head Coach position opened up in the aftermath of Cronin's all-but-forced departure. The applicant pool was notable for its lack of umm ..... applicants. Madigan and Sebastien aside, there was not a single accomplished head coach from a single D1 program and only one assistant (Greg Carvel) and one former assistant (Darren Yopyk) looking to move up. Mike Cavanaugh (then-BC) apparently sniffed around and thought better of it.

I was naively anticipating interest from a plethora of young but accomplished coaches (think Rand Pecknold - QPac) to be climbing all over each other for an opportunity to attach themselves to a then-promising program at a national university (and a Beanpot school to boot) but this was not to be. There were two perceptions in the coaching fraternity at the time that explains this: 1) The job was wired for an NU insider and 2) working for Peter Roby could prove hazardous to a coaching career.

..should have been Sebastian's job. He knew his hockey, our recruits & would've been a solid asset more than he was! This isn't hindsight.. people with a bit of knowledge were shouting from the rooftop for this.

..total screw up job! que in steve66 & rest of apologists..
total screw up. Truth hurts. No one more than our team of course!..

honestly??? this is NEVER going to happen for y'all. y'all need to find someone who can get those odd-aged fall through the crack guys and build something that wins. only THEN can you hope to go out and attract a young'un to come play with winners and build.

Generally, I think you're overrating our recruits. Who did we out-recruit in order to land them? Specifically speaking of Reid, he is now what he was then. He was a third liner on the U18 team, he is a third liner now. If you recruited a third liner from any other program, that's what you get: a third liner. Because Reid came from our US National Team, some people expected better. A third liner is a third liner. As for Benning, I have only seen one game so far. My hope for him is that he'll be a dependable junior/senior defender. He's not going to be Jim Fahey. I hope he's more dependable than Saucerman.
