Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

In the end, it does not matter who is in there between Shecks (I have never seen people fall over themselves so quickly for a guy who only talent seems to be able to make a dman to dman across the ice pass), DD, and Fennell. The 5th and 6th man on our third pairing are not good enough for this level. That we knew 2 years ago, and really had confirmed last year. Unless they want to move some forwards back there, and hope they can pick it up quicker, the third pairing is a lost cause.

The problem becomes the first two pairings really are not that hot either. Gunn is decent, Dax tries hard but this league moves to quick for him, Benning is average, and the new kid I have yet to see so no comment.

Someone mentioned that Cronin's system was hit it off the glass and out. The problem with that system, or really any system here is that the dmen CAN NOT GET TO OR SEPERATE THE OTHER TEAM FROM THE PUCK!!!!

Our system is let the goalie make a save, cover, and hope we can win the faceoff and break out.

If nothing else, the allure for Schechter comes from his ability to add something different to the D corps. We have big plodders in Dax, Gunn, DD, it'd be nice to sprinkle in some speed from someone who I trust to make passes stick to stick. He doesn't have to play at the level of MMatheson at BC or Gryzzzzlick at bu, but he does offer a different skill set than we had playing on Saturday.

I don't expect him to play as an All-American. But the few times he was in the lineup, lost in our own end. The coaches also tried to help him it seemed by putting him out there when the faceoff was in the offensive end. That says something...

Maybe he should be a forward like was suggested by HHound.

Again though, its 1 game in October. This was a pretty good road team last year up until the last 2-3 weeks. So if they go up and put up a good fight this weekend, the sky will stop falling for a bit.

But it may help if someone find Witt his magic fairy dust.

Definitely do need to keep this in mind. A friend at QU mentioned to me that the QU team that went to the NCAA tournament last year lost their first game of the season, but rebounded. Not saying that will happen to NU (though I'd be loving life if it did), but it is possible for a team to rebound from one game.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

BC lost their first game. I think ND lost their first two. Maine lost their first two. Teams lose.

It would have been nice if there had been more effort, its ok when the effort is there but its still a loss.

From what I saw in the 10 minutes I watched, and what everyone has said, that is the most worrisome. How can you come out flat on opening night?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I'm curious to know if anyone has been to practice and observed any line changes or different defensive pairings. Has there been an Owens sighting or a report on his status? AFAIK there are no other injuries unless an injury is what kept Collier out of the lineup. I'd like to see him playing with Szmatula in place of McMu. Sikura has a history of being a terrific setup guy. Once he learns the ropes, his linemates will be able to give him the puck and then get it back in a bedtter position to score.

It's early. It's early. It's early. Wish we played UMass this weekend and went to Colate next:rolleyes:

Colgate has a excellent (Frozen Four calibre) team this season. If we somehow come out with a split.. (unlikely but possible, especially if Witt gets it together).. then we'll be okay moving forward. The opening night effort was terrible.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Is anyone going to Colgate this weekend? A group of us are making the trip from Buffalo for the Friday night game. Hope to see some other NU fans there.

I think I can speak for the rest of us if I ask that you post your unvarnished impressions, pro or con, after the ice chips settle. Thanx.

Can't blame the defense for that one. Second goal was pretty weak, but you can't win if you can't score (or shoot on net)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Roy our best player didn't have one shot on net! Oh boy.

Actually, he had three shots on goal tonight.

No. He's not our best player - at least not so far. Szmatula is. Roy is playing like he'd prefer to be studying.

The Good: The Colgate LIVE stream was pretty good and the proce was right and we played better than we did v VT.

The Bad: We lost and I am fairly certain that it's going to be another very long Husky hockey season, the reality is that from what I can deduce the only teams on the schedule we are better than at this moment include only CT, UMASS, Merrimack and maybe ST. L and that's the dam straight truth.

I am making a prediction now this will be one of the worst campaigns in husky history if there isn’t a big change real fast. I have experience with 31 others season’s to compare it against
