I think it's great that BU worked with NU to get this waiver approved, but completely absurd that the school that "ran-off" the player had control over whether or not his waiver was approved.[/QUOTE]

Did someone saw that they did?

BU did have to approve the request, if that is what you are asking.

We may start off at #16, but we are #1 in my heart and mind.

Rankings are dumb. 'Nuff said.

Win games. Do not worry about rankings.

I made a simple statement, not a proclamation of the importance of rankings...

Then do not write about them.

Lets make this a ranking free thread this season.

We will let the wins and losses tell the story, not some artificial number.

He can write about anything he wants. Who are you to tell people what they can and can't do. I like his input and so do others.

I am me. I do not feel the need to get into the importance of me compared to other posters. I know I am here. I know I exist. The rest of you could be figments of my imagination for all I know. But why bear things down in semantics?

I also like what Skins has to say, a good poster.

Skins made a comment, I responded. I still think a poll free thread would be a nice change. Its a boring and dumb thing to track week to week. Its been done. It doesn't matter. It has no effect on if or will the team makes the NCAA. I do not even know why they bother doing it.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

C'mon guys. We ought to be smarter than to snipe at each other over something so trivial as polls. Especially the pre-season variety.

I'm (justly) famous for inventing the saying, "The only poll that counts is the last one." That being said, the polls exist and will continue to exist. And for better or worse, they do bring some measure of recognition to your program, and reflect the perceptions and opinions of others who have some insight into the inner workings of the college game. While I agree in principle with the sentiment that we should let the wins and losses do the talking, the polls remain fair game for discussion, keeping in mind that the only one that counts is the last one.

So let's get back to the really important stuff like how much airfare to Belfast costs. ;)

I don't think anyone was actually mad at each other, Huskies01 is right, the rankings are cared about too much but my post was more about the expectations people have coming off of last season being reflected in the ranking.

Only rankings I care about are the PairWise. If there's one thing that does need to change it's the whole Beanpot is everything nonsense. I'd much rather get beaten 7-0 in round 1 and make the NCAA tournament as opposed to winning it in a down year.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I'm greedy. I want them to win Beanpots AND make deep post-season runs....and on a regular basis. One thing I must respectfully disagree with you on: The Beanpot is not nonsense.

Of course, you are correct about the relative importance of the Pairwise vs. the weekly polls. As for the Beanpot is everything: For NU that has been the case in many, too many, seasons. You probably never witnessed the delight and hysteria that occurred around the U. and the alumni (donor) base when we win the Beanpot. 1980 was simply crazy. in 1982, when we won the ECAC at the old Garden and won qualifying games agains Bowling Green at Matthews in front of our own fans was a spectacle, but not like that first Beanpot and those that occurred later in that decade.

Under no circumstances would I be willing to trade getting hammered 7-zip in the BP first round for anything lesss than an NC final appearance (maybe). The psychological effect on the NU alumni who attend that game would be devastating. It would hurt the recruiting effort that take place that night (see, Sikura, Dylan as a recent recruit who fell under the BP spell, committed immediately, and declined offers fron PC and UNH). It would be costly in terms of donations, to understate the obvious. "School spirit" would also suffer immeasurably.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

two thumbs up for NCAA doing the right thing for once.

The fact that the NCAA required BU to approve the request for Collier to be eligible means that they're still not really getting it right, to me at least.

It's the nature of the beast. Right now they are employing "selective memory" while counting on DQ to restore the reason for their swagger.

talk about arrogance, wow

What are you talking about? My stance is that if a player is cut/run-off/whatever-the-NCAA-wants-to-call-it he should be immediately free to go play anywhere he wants that he is academically eligible. I'm not about to congratulate the NCAA on a rule that still leaves that player partially dependent on the school that cut him, whether that school be NU, BU, BC, or Alaska. Is that arrogance and/or selective memory?

I didn't say that, I said pretending it's the only thing that matters is nonsense. Of course I want to end the drought.

I was talking about NCAA. Agree with you 100%
