Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Exactly. We have always had skill but never the depth we have had now. Competition for ice time makes a team practice and plAy better. When your job is not safe or you don't play up to expectation you will be replaced. In years past that was not always the case because there was not many players to plug in. This years team seems to have more options and skill. Hopefully we remain healthy and play well but I feel better going into this s a son than any other in the past.

I could see Collier bumping McMurtry from the lineup- I predicted that a couple weeks ago when talking to two recent alums. There is competition for a wing spot. Jameison got time last year, he'll be fighting to get time this year. On D, Owens is hurt at the moment (still in the boot, my guess is an foot injury), but when healthy, we have him, DD, Schechter, Harms, and Fennell fighting for one spot. I'd personally wanna see him or Sheks in that spot, but again, competition, make them work for their PT. Definitely brings out the best in players.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I tend to agree- I think Rosenthal will eventually become a top 6 forward. Collier could work into the third line. I echo the sentiments shared below, scoring goals will not be the issue (powerplay excluded until proven otherwise). Defense and giving Witt clear sight lines will be the biggest issue.

There's no way Brendan Collier is going to be a bit player or spare part on this team.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

So Mayor Walsh is just a little out of his mind...anyone want to fly to Ireland?

Can't you just see how excited the Presidents of the four schools are going to be at the prospect of some of their athletes being out of the country for at least 10 days (more than that if it involves both rounds) in the middle of a semester? Even if they roll both rounds into successive days over a weekend, the kids would still be away for at least the better part of a week. And I wonder if Walsh floated this past the four schools in advance, or did he catch them as off-guard as the rest of us?

Why do Boston voters always insist on electing the village idiot as Mayor?

[BTW, the proposed location is Northern Ireland, not Ireland. Two vastly different places. Northern Ireland doesn't like green and executed all of the leprechauns centuries ago.]

He caught Steve Nazro, the tournament director, off-guard.

This is such a poor idea on so many levels.

Can we bring back Mumbles? :D

Read something earlier today that none of the 4 schools had heard about this prior to the story breaking. If true, this is certifiably insane, rather than just crazy

Well, scoring goals for two guys will not be an issue. But they could use one other guy to score that has not in the past, maybe not to the extent that Pimm did last year, but they do need to fill the 20 goals he scored. And the argument it will an army of guys to do it, really does not hold weight.

Brendan Collier and Northeastern expect to hear from NCAA early next week on appeal for former BU forward to be eligible to play immediately

Hockey Dad is correct about Collier in saying it is not a done deal. There are legal issues that have not been Resolved. Once more NU’s AD shows that he is not qualified for the job!

lets hope it gets done, absurd for a kid to be punished because bu sucks and the ncaa sucks even more. can you imagine the dope that put the rule in place. coach leaves one program so he can make more money, gets there and screws kids so he can play fantasy hockey and the kid sits out a year
ncaa is most toxic entity in sports

NCAA or FIFA, it's close.

If this were football and we played in the SEC, we wouldn't even be having this discussion.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Are any othe posters planning to attend the Golf Tournament today and/or the dinner and cocktail hour beginning at 5PM at the Framingham CC?

The interest this year is terrific! There are roughly 90 golfers signed up vs. 60 last year. Aprroximately 120 are expected for dinner. As in past years, the entire team will be there and will be introduced individually.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Per Brendan Collier's twitter account, his waiver has been approved and is eligible to play at NU.

Best of luck to him unless he is playing BU.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Thanks from those of us who don't twit. That means that he can have his own plate and dessert at the NU Hockey Golf tournament dinner tonight. If he had been denied, the NCAA would have required him to sit outside and eat leftovers from his his mess kit.

I think it's great that BU worked with NU to get this waiver approved, but completely absurd that the school that "ran-off" the player had control over whether or not his waiver was approved.
