Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Maine played better in the 2nd .. & much better in the 3rd period. We stopped moving our feet, they played with fire.. feel that’s the team we’ll see tomorrow.. however.. Huskies held their own for most parts of the first & second periods, not as much the 3rd. Let's just watch the penalties team!
Witt not as sharp as usual, but got us through. DRoy (assuming he starts in net tomorrow).. will have a good challenge at hand.

6-4 final, NU. Let's go Huskies

Congratulations to NU. More team speed and skill than Maine. Maine was skating around attacking and totally out of position defensively the first period. I didn't realize NU had not won at Alfond Arena in 7 years.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

The other HE games didn't really go our way. Need the 2 points tomorrow to have any chance at a bye, with bu looming next weekend.

Edit: I didn't realize BC/Lowell don't play tomorrow so a tie there isn't the worst thing.

We played way better for 38 minutes adn maine palyed better for 22. However Witt gave up 2 big rebounds for Maine to notch the 3rd and 4th goal. The big story is 16th in the PAIRWISE! Keep it up boys. Nice job. However we need both points tomorrow. Also these are our first points at Alfond Arena since 2008!

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

This really is turning into a Tale of Two Seasons.

Through the first nine games of the season, only two teams in the country had a worse start than Northeastern (one was equal):

0-9-0 - Lake Superior State
0-9-0 - Niagara
0-8-1 - Wisconsin
0-8-1 - Northeastern

By the time Northeastern recorded their first win, there was only one remaining team in all of Division 1 hockey without a win: Wisconsin.

In the last 21 games, only one team has a better record than Northeastern, and only one team has had more quality wins (quality wins defined as beating an opponent that was ranked at that time):

16-3-2 - Minnesota State (Current PWR: #1, 3 Quality Wins against Minnesota and Michigan Tech x2)
15-3-3 - Northeastern (Current PWR: #17, 5 Quality Wins against Minnesota, Providence, Yale, Vermont, Boston College)
14-4-3 - Robert Morris (Current PWR: #23, No Quality Wins)
14-5-3 - North Dakota (Current PWR: #2, 6 Quality Wins against Denver x2, Omaha, Duluth, St Cloud and Miami)
14-6-1 - Michigan Tech (Current PWR: #6, 2 Quality Wins against Bowling Green and Duluth)

It can be argued that Northeastern and North Dakota had a much more challenging time getting those 14 and 15 wins given who they beat to get them.

Among those three teams that had equal or worse starts than Northeastern, they have now achieved a combined 14 wins on the season. Northeastern has 15.

How does something like this happen?

I can believe this is really happening.but it is,and Im thankful for each and every positive step #GoNU

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

Is there any kind of minimum record required to qualify for the NCAA tourney? Just curious because St. Cloud has the potential to be under .500 and in the field somehow. (Which I find ridiculous by the way)

It is now a minimum of .500 since Wisconsin made it in the late 2000s as a sub-.500 team.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

..missed following tonight's gm, just saw the final box score.. wow, looks like the Blackbears started off where they left off that 3rd period yesterday.
Nice job.

Would like to hear from anyone who followed or attended tonight's gm.. how did NU look? positives & negatives.. was it the penalties, goaltending, Maine outplaying us.. etc.

Well.. its on to Monday night.. can tonight pls be the gm we were all expecting to happen sooner or later over the last 17 odd gms..

what the heck.. let's just play for beans sake nxt week.. :)

nice run Huskies. get it back together for a bit more.. you know you can do it.

I'm basically just calling back the commentary from Huskies Radio, but...

Defense was terrible and couldn't clear rebounds or the zone for their lives. Roy wasn't anything special, if he was there wouldn't have been 192 rebounds out front, but he wasn't the reason we lost

Saucerman went out with a head injury and I'd imagine if it's remotely real he's out Monday.

ZAR also didn't play, no idea why.

Power play was terrible. NU somehow managed to take an interference penalty to negate the rest of their power play THREE DIFFERENT TIMES, and the ones they had were basically "take first shot from point"

A lot of missed chances in front of the net, a couple of posts, while Maine converted most of theirs. The opposite of yesterday.

Sikura scored again, which is nice if he's coming on. So did McMurtry

Some fight back in the team, they scored 9 seconds after going down 2-0 and answered after Maine's fourth and fifth goals, just wasn't enough.

He was apparently laying on the ice holding his head for an extended time while the refs let play continue. After the play ended with a Maine goal we got multiple guys sent to the box. The only penalty put up was 2 for unsportsmanlike, so I assume it was some combination of unsportsmanlike and misconducts for harassing the refs about letting him lay there.

Yes, it was a 2 minute bench minor for unsportsmanlike conduct. Madigan wasn't very happy with the non call hit to the head on Saucerman.

Madigan on Saucerman's injury: "He was hit from behind. He's just got some neck issues there, I think he'll be ok"

Madigan on why Aston-Reese didn't play: "He got hit last night and he was sore. Just thought it made sense to sit him for tonight and let his body recover and hopefully he'll be ready to go Monday."

JM after the game via Josh Brown on Twitter.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2014-15: Release the Hounds!

I'm not as concerned about the final score as I am the injuries. Every team has a clunker once in awhile where things just don't go your way. I do have some nagging bad vibes about the latter part of the Friday night game, though.

Looks like DQ over on lower Comm. Ave. also went with the backup goalie and might have rested a couple of guys.

On to the Gahden.
