Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

We looked better than i thought we would.. seriously. On the W/L, of course if we stuck with Rawlings, we win the game. I know Coach wanted to try all 3 of the goalies, hence the change each period. It was not Witt's night. He let in everything once score was tied 5-5. Regardless, this was Madigan & co. chance to see what adjustments they need to make before Friday's gm.

I thought Dongara hustled (as always).. & i was also impressed with Eibler & Karlsson. Is Ferreiro out sick?

Anyway, I think we have something here... more later. :)

Agree completely with this. I thought we actually played a pretty solid game overall.

Ferriero and Quailer are suspended, hopefully they come back soon. Karlsson is also out next weekend. That seems to eliminate our 2nd line (since they played together). Hopefully Stone, Morra, and Manno can step up and fill in as the 4th line.

More excited than ever for Friday

Goalie Tracker 2011

Last season I got a good response of interest after posting pictures of the new goalie equipment. I thought that I would continue for this year. Up first is Rawlings, who continues to use the Reebok Revoke series. Last year he went with an all-red/black stitch look and this year he has reversed the colors. His helmet stays the same.

Mountain continues to use the same Vaughn Velocity 4s that he had last year and his helmet also stays the same.

Last but not least, Witt continues to wear his Bauer one100 leg pads with the matching blocker and catcher this year instead of Vaughns. Again, no new helmet designs.

I know you mean well, but what is the correlation to their likely performance? Probably zero. It reminds me of the correlation between the cost of a wedding and the success of the marriage. Yesterday, the first two played well, while the third - not so well. Should he change his equipment?

Relax dude... how you can infer that he meant anything close to that? I'm not sure how this is any different than just posting pictures of new jerseys.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

As a sports jersey/equipment geek, I dig the pictures. Thought we looked good in the second, first half of the first was kind of ugly. Too many powerplays to get a real feel for how we are 5v5, was interesting to see pimm in front of the net on pp, i guess he's taking mcneelys role. overall looked OK given it was the first competition we had faced all year, hope we bring it friday

Thought that was pretty straight-forward. Would have put up a new post if I wanted to talk goalie performance. The team looked good yesterday- umbrella power play was 4-8, significantly better than stats from last year. Looking forward to Friday.

You literally put about 50 words in his mouth.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Rawlings new equipment looked great.. the color might throw off a shooter or two, giving him a split second to cover up..
on the other hand, he might lose sight of the puck himself at times given the pace of the gm and puck being black as well. I'm assuming he's practiced and comfortable with the change. If it works.. it works! Just don't donate the old equipment yet :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Vinny is insanely talented. I'm going to love watching him play this year.

Karlsson and Manson stuck out, in terms of the other freshmen (none of whom looked terrible). Manson's going be too anxious to join the rush last year (like Bitetto was for a bit early last year), but when he settles in, he'll be a contributor. Karlsson looks like he's ready to play college hockey now. Soft hands, skates well for a big guy. I'm feeling the McLaughlin, Vrolyk, Dong line as well as the Saponari-Pimm-JDaniels line. I hope Madigan leaves them together for opening weekend.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Fanfest for the hockey teams tonight at Matthews. (festivities outside start around 4pm or so i believe).. hopefully everyone has a good time.
If anyone can post some pics/ comments later tonight for those of us unable to attend.. would be appreciated, thanks.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

I'm excited for tonight. Overall, I was pleased with how we looked in the exhibition game last weekend. I thought Manson looked the best out of all the freshmen--he had a pretty nice slapper from out by the blue line, and I didn't see him out of position at all. Obviously it's still too early to tell, but I think there's a lot of potential. Oskroba looked quicker than I anticipated him being, and Karlsson also looked good.

I'm not a fan of the speed line we played (39 18 91) because I think there needs to be a more physical presence there. Maybe switch Vrolyk or Dongara out with Tuckerman? The line of J.Daniels, Saponari, and Pimm was interesting, because it looked like Saponari was centering for two of last year's centers. I thought they looked like our best line though. Justin played a more aggressive game than I remember seeing from him last year, which is a very good thing.

Even though we won't have one of our top two lines tonight, I still expect a W against a young and untested UMASS team (I don't think they played an exhibition game). I think the key will be to try to get a lot of pressure on net to try to rattle their inexperienced netminder. Thoughts?

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Didn't make it out tonight, but the new Live stream port in HD was terrific. I saw lots of good things and am pleased with a point. We played fairly well and I have to say Dongara , J. Daniels and Vinny Sap are going to be pretty exciting to watch. Nice job. Will try to make the New Hampshire game. I know we were picked 8th, but this team, inspite of the new coaches, some new faces and early departures could surprise.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2011-2012 Season Thread: Year of the Mad Dog

Rossi, nice to hear from you..

I missed the first but caught the 2nd & 3rd periods.. #33 for UMass absolutely stole the gm for them the last 5 mins in regulation & played quite well. Otherwise that game tying goal with 2 seconds left might have been a game winning goal. Nevertheless, nice to eek out a tie in the waning moments. Love the way the barn absolutely erupted.. even with holiday wknd & all.. nice job Doghouse! (btw, i think Cody Ferreiro jumped higher than i, when the Huskies lit the lamp at 19:58).. :)

I think Madigan & Co. have some work still left on the powerplay & 5x3.. we gotta bury some of those opportunities. I thought the Minutemen played well on the road with a new goalie & i thought Blaise Macdonald outworked 'Toot' behind the bench :)
Onward.. Night all!
