Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Huge huge win at Schneider. NU's 5th goal with an extra attacker and Pimm scores twice in two minutes. 12 seconds in, that's pretty fast.

12-6-3 and 5-4-1 in HEA. Great season so far for a team picked to finish last in the conference.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Great to pick up 2 points against the #6 team in the country. Was anticipating another Gillies shutout as the game got under a minute, but Pimm had other thoughts...

PIMM! WITT! This team has no quit, they do not say die. Coach talked about them maturing each practice, this team is showing it in their recent games. Up to 9 in Pairwise and 3 in Hockey East. Heckuva job taking 2 points when it looked like we were getting 0. Go NU!

Nice job Huskies I watched form a friends place in Attleboro that Had Cox sports on cable. It was a good game we were outshoot, but play was pretty solid. See you all on Saturday where it might be 50 degrees at Fenway at 3pm. Also, our RPI is now 9. I don't want to jinx it but if this season ended next week we would likely be a tournament selection, I know there is lots of hockey left to play, however this team, picked dead last, is a huge surprise and no fans in Hockey East deserve this more than us! Let's close out the last 7 weeks strong.

When you have a bit of decent goaltending behind you.. fires up the kids to make that one play that makes.. or might make difference in a gm against good opponents. Rawlings completely took the wind out of their sails in gms like this, the Beanpot etc in previous seasons.

Witt gives us a fighting chance week in, week out. Rest of the club doesn't quit either.. right there behind their goalie. Nice to see that as a fan!

..and nice to have decent goaltending again.. thanks for the effort Clay!

Again, nice job team :-)

Amen to that! And all the more reason for lots of butts to be in the seats at Fenway on Saturday. The UML game at Fenway has definitely not been on my "must see" list but with the gut-check win at Providence, the Fenway game takes on a whole lot of unexpected significance in terms of league standings and national rankings. Plus, the kids deserve some in-person support.

So much as I personally dislike these outdoor "gimmick" games, I think I'll find a way to be there.

Good win by Northeastern...Witt had a ton of shots hit him in the chest just like the PC vs NU game at Matthews. He was solid but not tested!

I said to people around me that Roy would do it but I was off a number!

Witt had 3-4 game-saving stops at least throughout the game. That's what you ask of your goaltender.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Disagree with you...Witt was down and out and a PC player shoots it into his pads?

So, are we supposed to judge goalies not by the incredible saves they actually make, but by the goals that weren't scored on them because the opponent doesn't take the best shot possible? Seems a bit ridiculous. Pucks bounce around and shooters can't always get off the perfect shot. The fact that his pads were anywhere near that side of the net to stop that shot was amazing. NU should have been down at least 3-0 when Pimm scored the equalizer, but for Witt's play. He was both solid throughout (which is why pucks were shot into his chest - he comes out and cuts down the angle) and spectacular when the defense broke down and he was left on an island. Witt is the team MVP so far. Without him, this team is below .500.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Witt was in better position last night than any Northeastern game I've covered this year. Yes. A few Providence shots seemed to be aimed right at his chest, but half of that is good positioning. He did less flopping than usual. The one goal he gave up was a flukey play. Defense was much better positionally.

The defense was solid I thought. Blocked a ton of shots.

You take up as much of the net as possible. Positioning is how goaltending is played in modern times. It's the same as people who whine about "soft goals". Every goal that wasn't deflected or a perfect shot off the post and in could've been saved.

This is the most promising analyses thing I've read about NU hockey in a while. Glad to see both Witt and the D making improvements over the short term, hopefully they carry that with them in the long term.
