Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Faceoff stats on Friday according to box score. PC won 42 Northeastern won 39

Surprising to hear it was that close. Always seemed like PC came away with the puck. I looked into the box score, Hedges won 75% of his draws, and Szmatula won 56%. Clearly these two are our best in the dot. Stevens won 43%, and Pond was brutal, winning 1 all night.

Other note from the box- penalties. NU had the lone one in P1, then PC had them all in P2, and then all NU in P3. I am not pinning a tie/loss of lead on the officiating but by my eyes they missed a ton of calls in all period on both sides. It's just sad to see since these are some the more experienced zebras from HE.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I am not worried, because tonight the so called star PC Goalie (Gillies) looked very non NHL draft and was so shaky, that if he had given up another soft goal, I thought they would pull him, also the Huskies are more talented offensively, period.
I hope you're right about Gillies because I want to see him stay beyond this year.

Are you aware of Ross Mauermann's point total this year?
Just curious?

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I have to agree that Millea was terrible tonight, but I cannot blame him for the way this one turned out...

I'll second that analysis but I lay more blame on KRoy for taking a Cody-like (i.e., blatant and useless) trip that created the front end of the 5x3. The Jack Millea holding call on Benning that created the back end was marginal to the point of being bogus, but no more so than the Cameron Voss phantom holding call on ND that set up the winning PPG in the Shillelagh Tournament, so these things tend to even out. Millea, among others, is known for having a "heavy whistle," which is one reason I like to see Benedetto and Gravellese show up. Both tend to call a game for what it's worth, and no more. Benedetto was Millea's partner last night but I don't think he called more than three of the nine penalties.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Northeastern has received a commitment from Grant Jozefek, a '97 sniper from New Jersey. USHL rights held by Muskegon where he was picked #7 overall in the league's draft in May, and his OHL rights are held by the Plymouth Whalers. Had 103 points as a freshman last year in high school, incredible. Real nice get for the Huskies, congrats to Grant and his family!

Thank you for this, I had missed the announcement of this commitment. Looks to be an offensive minded Dman, which is good to see. Madigan has done a nice job lining up some solid recruits for the next couple years, looks like next year could be a large incoming class as well...I wonder who would be deferred, it's not like we are freeing up a lot of space due to graduation, just 3 senior skaters (1 productive one) and a goalie?

Up to 16 in this week's poll, great to see progress being made. If/when this team can put 3 solid periods together, we are a dangerous opponent. Gotta take care of business at UVM and head into Christmas break on a high note, those are two points that I think we should be able to take.

Also, I'm a little peeved that Hockey East passed on Clay Witt for Defensive Player of the Week. I mean, they didn't win, but he saved 52 of 55 shots against the #4 team in the nation. That's better than 28 of 29 from Demko (who won it). Just one man's opinion.

Glad to see NU up to 16 as well. From the looks of him this year Clay will get the Defensive Player again before the end of the season although 52/55 was incredible.

The more I look into it, the more I get excited for next week's matchup versus UVM. 2 teams that has been big surprises in Hockey East this year, separated by one point in the standings- and if the season ended today they'd both have home ice. NU 5-3 on the road, UVM 4-3 at home, should be a good one up at the Gut.
