Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

It's a lovely drive to a lovely area, but if you can't make it, St. L. will be streaming both games in HD for FREE!

It is also a very, very long drive that feels like it will never end. I went a long time ago when the Huskies played Clarkson and St. Lawrence over the course of a weekend. I do have to say that I loved Appleton Arena, it is the classic definition and feel of an old barn.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I'd be happy with a split this wknd. If our goaltending holds up.. who knows then. As much as I like Matthews.. the wood bleachers at Appleton.. great college rink!
G'luck, go Huskies! :)

Hey, NU_Husky,
Your given site is really great and has latest news of Hockey. Glad to have such news.

Glad you enjoyed it. I like seeing the recruiting sites, who they are profiling, and where these "top tier" kids are headed.

As for the weekend, I agree with northeastern, I would be happy with a split. St. Lawrence is underrated in their own conference, much like us in ours. Should be a good matchup, a good chance for the boys to prove they deserve to be in the USCHO Top 20. I wonder if Witt and Roy will split again, or if JM will throw Mountain out there. Personally I'd rather the first two, but we'll see. Thanks to HH for the stream, looking forward to watching it. Go NU!

Fully agree, with this added in: I was still really nervous seeing Mountain in the scrimmage. There were a lot of deflected pucks with wide open net, but thankfully the D was able to clear it out quick. Would hate to see how SLU would jump on those pucks.

And he has always been prone to giving up some juicy rebounds (stealing Jack Edwards' phrase). Every time I have watched him those rebounds made me cringe, just waiting to be punched home. Granted the D seems to be better this year and clearing the puck may happen faster...I just have more faith in Witt and Roy.

The only game I have really watched Roy as a goalie, he made the saves but he seemed to be a little behind the puck. Has he gotten better in recent games?

He has looked good, confident in net and has bailed out the D when he needed to. Witt and Roy have provided Madigan with 2 solid options so far in net.

The folks over on the ECAC pick 'em thread are not giving us much of a chance this weekend...I wonder if that is an oversight on NU (likely) or if they feel SLU is really that good. The boys seem pretty amped up for their first road trip of the season. I see a split coming our way.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Witt in net today, surprised to not see Cody out there...any insight as to why he's out again? Another coach's decision or something more?

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

No insight other than to surmise that maybe Cody didn't get the message from the Coach's Decision last weekend?

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

Anybody else having trouble with the feed from St. Lawrence?

Yep. Been waiting for 5 minutes now...another point to GoNUxStream in terms of quality game feeds

EDIT: for those who want to listen live, the WRCA radio feed is spot on.

Reading the gm thread sounds like we did not play a great gm.. (neither did SLU I'm sure as they were home). Just nice to have the PP clicking after the last few seasons. 6-3 Huskies, final.

They definitely got outplayed for the first 30 minutes. Witt was the only reason it wasn't 5-0 after the 1st. They did finally wake up halfway through the second and looked pretty good. Roy with a couple more goals.

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I watched this on a grainy stream before I logged on to my work site and streamed form the dedicated line much better. We got killed for 30 mins and outshot 2 to 1 but thankfully Witt stood on hit head to keep it 2 to 1 early as it could have been 5 to 0. Nice job CW!

We would historically lose a game like this and the Saints are no slouches. So, what is different? T

The offensive talent of Roy and the crew of freshman who just seem to know they are more talented and can hit a gas peddle and make you look silly even when they are behind and not playing all that well. Roy has 11 pts in 5 games that is unheard of at this level. We still have HE teams to put us to the real test and BC net week, so for some the jury may still be out and that's an acceptable thought process given our history.

However, nobody expected this and nobody deserves this more than all of us! I am not saying they are going to win anything but they are as talented as the other dog and birds in town and to some extent that really has been the problem for decades.

Let's have fun with 26 goals in 5 games, I mean really, we could have six wins on week 3 and had only 9 all of last year! I don't want to jinx it, but you can't coach or teach lines to go to the net like they are.

This team has a air of confidence, that I have not seen in a long time. They were down outshot and in true NU fashion might have folded, instead they just continued to play hard, and perhaps they have always tried to do that, but something is different. I just think that Roy, Mike S and ZAR feel they can score at will and that must be a great feeling.
