Let's hope that the reason that he hasn't recruited a goalie is that he likes what he has. If that is the case, bringing in three D's is intended to strengthen the team in front of the net. If they can efficiently clear rebounds and get the puck out of their zone, the forwards can spend more energy on offense. That would work.
Agreed. I'm just nervous because JM seemed to be content with Mr. Rawlings in net over the past 2 years which, I think we can all agree, was a bit of a disaster.
Keeping my fingers crossed
Not the way I want to start off a new season. An e-mail from Chuck Marshall, the President of “Friends of NU Hockey.”
It appears, from his message, that NU fans have reached the nadir of our suffering; “I am writing to you as a worried friends President. The support level for our Golf Tournament is at one of the lowest levels I have seen and we have absolutely no interest in the upcoming Notre Dame trip despite all the people I chatted with prior to putting this together…….”
I wonder how long it will take the hockey assassin to put together a “secret” committee”, to solve the lack of support for hockey, as he did for football program.
Perhaps I am being too cynical? If NU wins hockey games fans will support the team but if they continue to lose the HE games???

I'm actuallly surprised that the President of the friends group is surprised. I mean, the product has not been good for a few seasons, a lot more could be done to welcome in younger alumni to make them feel included and valued as members of the friends group, and when you have the AD yelling at and insulting donors and season tix holders, this is what is going to happen. Word gets around....people are fed up on many levels I think.
Coming from a PC fan, I was disappointed with the support level when the Friars came to town late in the 2012-2013 season. I expected a better turnout from the student body but it felt like a morgue there.
Wake up NU!
NORTH ANDOVER – If you haven’t been on Merrimack’s campus since the end of last hockey season, you’re barely going to recognize the place.
A major construction project that kicked off last September
The Islander Hockey Club, an organization that sponsors youth teams all the way through high-level juniors in the United States Premiere Hockey League, has a long-term agreement with Merrimack to use its facilities as its home rink. The new second ice sheet at the college bares the Islanders’ logo at center ice and will serve as the youth hockey power’s primary home.
Richard Gallant, president of the Islanders, and his wife Susanna donated $2 million dollars to the college last year, which was one of the largest single gifts the college ever received.
If you’re a hockey parent taking your kids to 5 a.m. Saturday games or just a Merrimack fan in need of a caffeine fix, you’ll likely love the addition of the Dunkin Donuts, which is housed inside Merrimack’s new bookstore in the lobby of arena.
Under Hopey’s leadership the athletic department is seriously considering a move to Division 1 for all of its athletics, including basketball and football, which would not only remain as one of the department’s offerings but play a vital role in the college’s growth with nearly 100 student-athletes on the roster.
“Athletics is important for three reasons,” Hopey said. “Obviously for pride, then there’s building within the community and finally enrollment. Athletics plays a big role in driving that and Merrimack needs all three of those things to being doing well.”
And if you think Merrimack’s done, think again.
“We’re not ready to announce anything but there is a phase two,” Hopey said. “Stay tuned, it’s even bigger than this.”
..spin it all you want Ryecheers.. but this is a hockey forum & Merrimack admin have done a very good job of bringing in the right assets (strong HC & staff).. while NU admin chased out a legit HC over texting..
with the addition of the 2nd sheet on campus they have given the sport a much needed boost far as local junior, youth hockey & future recruiting.
With the way hockey is treated by our current AD (a joke)..I think Matthews should be rented out for WWF.. can you say cash cow!![]()
OK guys, get someone to donate $2million to the hockey program then we can talk. Until that happens I don't understand this argument.
