Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

I've been looking over rosters of the HE teams, and doing so has raised a question I find interesting...if goaltending is a weakness on this team, why do we not have an assistant coach who specializes in goaltending? Many teams seem to have a "Goaltending Coach" or a coach that works primarily with goalies, but I cannot find anything indicating NU does. Keefe's bio on GoNU.com says he "oversees the Huskies’ power play unit" and Foley "oversees the Huskies’ penalty-killing unit an works with NU’s student-athletes as their academic liaison." I could be missing something, but would anyone here have a thought regarding this?

I believe John Carratu from Stop It Goaltending is the Northeastern Goalie Coach:

John Carratu is a volunteer goalie coach at NU and has been for a while. Geragosian was before that and he is at BU now.

Just have to say, as much as Northeastern fans beat on the program, what a beautiful arena you have!

Thank you, and thank you C-H-C for the reply. Did not know he was a volunteer coach, that would possibly explain his absence from the website. Many thanks!

Agreed. I made my first visit to Matthews last week while I was in Boston. It was one of the coolest arenas I have been in. I also visited the baseball/soccer complex. That place was awesome as well!

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

It's been a while since there's been any NU news, so here's something to break the silence.

OverTheBoards ranked Northeastern's incoming freshman class as the 10th best in the country. This ranked 4th in Hockey East behind BC (#1), BU (#5), and PC (#9). And this does not even include Dalen Hedges for some reason. Also interesting, to me at least, all four Beanpot teams made the list, with Harvard coming in at #7.

Finally, some relief from the constant stream of doom and gloom. Yes I know this is just one guy's opinion but I'll take it, with the usual grain of salt.

Finally some good news,I'm not going to "hang my hat on it" but there are reasons for optimism, plus just hearing you guys talk NU Hockey makes me happy!! hope everyone is having/had a great summer!!

I may or may not have a countdown going on until the first game action vs. Dalhousie at Matthews...38 days to go and counting! Very excited for the season to finally get started!

The writer seemed to be more focused on the American recruits. He may have had this column in the can for awhile as he also left off Zak Aston-Reese. a.k.a. ZAR who hails from far off island of Staten.

35 days to go! 5 weeks!

Question regarding Frozen Fenway- would you say it's worth going to as a spectator? I received an email from NU saying tickets are on sale for the game earlier this week, and I have heard both good and bad things about the event, but have not attended it yet. Will you all be going this year?

Well we are hugely spoiled to have Matthews Arena, that being said,if you like to be right on top of the action like MA's afford then the whole visual aspect of the Fenway game will be a giant leap backwards, generally the sightlines there are terrible, but I believe it's more the event (outdoor Hockey and at Fenway)that makes it worthwhile,if you can only afford a game or two,I would suggest spending it at Matthew's,but if you love the spectacle of it and can afford it,do it up!

I try to make to to every NU game I can, I've only missed 2 or 3 the last 2 years. This is just the first year Frozen Fenway seems plausible that I can go, which is why I ask. Thank you!

I was looking around the web for more input regarding the incoming NCAA classes and found another positive review of Northeastern's. I'm putting it below, people seem to be very high on the recruiting job JM has done in his tenure here, I just wish we would see the results of development more on the ice. Hopefully as more of "his kids" come in and gel, the results will come.

This is the link I found today, the NU blurb is towards the end: http://thehockeyguys.net/the-next-wave-ranking-the-top-ncaa-freshmen-classes/

Re: Northeastern Hockey 2013-14 Season

To those who may be interested, tomorrow (technically today, but in any case, on 9/3) NU Athletics will be hosting a yard sale from 11am - 6pm in Cabot Center quad. Using their words, "Great gear at low prices."
