That wasn't pretty. I'm going tomorrow. Hopefully, they play better, cuz that was a bit of a hot mess. I too will take the W because this is the kind of trap game teams of Huntington Avenue generally lose. Outshot by a margain of nearly 2 to 1 but our goalie pulls a much needed shutout.
if we had played that poorly against a HEA opponent, we would have lost badly. Stonehill was able to beat us anll over the ice- except score. This was a classic “trap game”, and Stonehill won -2 to 0.
Our first goal deflected off of their goalie’s stick, hit Fukakusa’s skate in the crease and went in. We didn’t come close to scoring until Borgesi’s shot late in P3. Lost most board battles. The team rarely controlled the puck long enough in the O. Zone to sustain any real offensive pressure. In fact, the game was mostly played in our defensive zone.
If this team plays a similar listless game tomorrow, even if they win, the respect earned from their 4 wins against ranked teams will be nothing more than a pleasant memory.
Thoughts: I hope they win ugly again tonight, the pollsters lose all respect for them after a 2-0 weekend, and they slide down in the polls. They will be top 4 ish in the NPI, (the only number that matters), and top 8 in the defunct PWR, so we can in fact see how skewed the polls are toward who is better "on paper" instead of the ice.
It has been at roughly this point each of the last few seasons that it was easy to project that NU was going to be a 10 or 11 win team. And i realize this is getting a bit ahead, but with a win tonight, and playing only .500 remainder of the season, the team would finish with a 20-14 record going into the HEA playoffs.

Here tonight, better than last night but all tied up after 2 against a squad they should be likely be beating. Sorry, I've seen 4 games, Harvard, Army, BC and now Stonehill. I can see why they weren't ranked for 5 weeks. This is a good squad that has some offensive spurts but plays somewhat undisciplined. They are subject toan s odd man rushes and not occasionally I might add. When our goalie is standing on his head he is the differentiator, tonight he's slightly better than average and we could easily lose. I wouldn't buy any flights to Phoenix just yet. When they turn up the heat they can look offensively powerful but...then they hit after the whistle or some other thing that kills young teams. They will need to play better in the neutral zone against the ranked teams coming up on the schedule. Still they are far better than me or likely anyone else anticipated.
