Northeastern 2024-25: Last Days (Maybe) for the Old Barn

cam lund bird hunter extraordinaire. absolutely bonkers stuff. ryan leonard sees matt davis and cam whitehead in his nightmares.

of course when i actually would appreciate a northeastern loss, they are suddenly world beaters. lets go put the fear of god in someone.
 
Reminds everyone that “On any given night …”. McMahon’s newsletter gave NU a 13% chance of beating BC tonight. The loss won’t hurt BC’s NCAA ranking - only their pride! I hope BC or another Hockey East team wins the NC.

UMass Boston is more a high school rink as the stands are only on one side. The long walk from JFK station is a turnoff unless they provide buses to the rink. It was bad enough being a BC High student walking to the high school over the highway bridge on cold winter days.

The only rink similar to Brown is Bright Landry but the walk from Harvard Square to the rink is a bit of walk. Coordinating a schedule for more than one home rink will be a challenge.

I would not be a fan of many weeknight games when students are busy with classes and schoolwork. Looking forward to going to games is best held during weekends.

BC has two T stops, Chestnut Hill station which is a long walk and Comm Ave station is more convenient near the church.

Warrior does not have enough seats and again only one side has seats like UMass Boston.

What about building a temp bubble rink on one of the fields near Matthews or the near the parking garage ???

First off, I'm 68 years old and I walk to Bright Landry from the Square even on cold winter nights. If you are telling me that 18 -to 21-year-old kids can't make the same trek, then something is radically wrong with our youth. Puhleeze.

Second, Bright Landry is light years better than Walter Brown Arena. Comparing the two is foolish. We renovated the rink 9 years ago and it has super amenities for the players and fans. Our only issue is parking, limited to spaces around the athletic fields and across the street at the B-School.

Third, when the original Bright Center was being built, Harvard played 8 home games at Walter Brown and 1 home game at Schneider Arena against, you guessed it, Providence. How Providence managed that, I'll never know. When you guys were building Conte Forum, we let you use the Bright Center for home games.
 
LOL Walter Brown Arena just underwent a major renovation so it’s definitely just as good or better than Bright. One game I went to at Bright - my bench seat had no back. One would think a school with a multi billion dollar endowment could have fixed. Hope the upgrades they fixed that.

How do you figure this team? Squeak by Merrimack in OT. Happy to have that win. Hoping for a competitive game against BC and they play a rock solid road game to move on. It's taken some of the young depth players time to catch on but a few look like they have learned how to contribute in their roles. Maine is the opposite of BC - no All-Americans but a solid TEAM.
 
Sidebar on some commits-

RD Garrett Frazer became the first prior NU commit to jump to the OHL from junior A after the rule change, joining OHL's Erie Otters in January. in 30 games hes had 1-5-6 with 26 PIM. Erie has had a weird year, seems to be fitting in well enough though.

Puck Preps just broke Northeastern's first commit from the CHL itself- F Nathan Quinn plays for the Québec Remparts of the QMJHL, 46 points in 52 games. He's an 07 and NHL draft eligible, projected 2nd/3rd round pick.

Pretty significant get, one of the few newer trends of younger players instead of overage targets. Could be a while until he enrolls but a big find.
 
It was a game for the ages. Destined to go down as one of the most memorable in NU's long hockey history but Lucy once again pulled the puck away when a seemingly harmless Maine shot deflected off of Jackson Dorrington's chest for the flukish tying goal. Reminiscent of a random deflection in the women's national championship game vs Wisconsin a few years back. Maine was the better, deeper team but the fight that Northeastern put up was nothing short of heroic. Cameron Whitehead with his best game ever though ultimately in a losing cause. At the end of the day, I don't think anyone could have asked any more of this team, at least night.

What a strange season this was. A 20-loss team that somehow split with #1BC (only team to beat them twice). Plus, splits with BU and UMass, ties with Providence and Maine, and a win at Top-10 QPac. OTOH, swept by UConn and two regular season losses each to Mack and UNH. And the Beanpot Beatdown. JRitz and Alex Campbell were sorely missed.

Now it's time to see who turns pro and what can be coaxed out of the portal. Hoping we hold onto Whitehead, DRitz, and Joe Connor.

NU played their absolute hearts out until the very final moments. It was a gutsy performance that deserves a lot of praise. Those guys never ever quit, and it was impressive.
 
Props to the NU program, from the get go I was hoping for a Merrimack win because I did not want BC to play NU, they were a tough out. Hope that you don't get raided by the pros but it is the way of the world in college hockey these days.
 
Impressive performance from your guys last night. An epic game, one of the best back and forth battles I can remember from watching Maine play for the last almost 40 years.
 
Yeah, that was a great battle. Northeastern blocked 42 shots, that is proof they were doing anything to win. Whitehead was fantastic. The doghouse section did great cheering back and forth against Maine’s student section.

Let’s do it again next year, congratulations on good season ending.

NU has had a commitment from the CHL itself for months already, Jacob Mathieu.

Hope i'm wrong on some of this, but they will start next year without 4, 6, 8, 9, 12, 15, 29, 22(maybe)......due to graduation or the pros. Did i miss anyone?
 
Happy for Cam but sad to see him go. Thought he really developed as an all around player this year after having a bit of a one way game the prior two

that was one of the areas he’s grown the most. the other big concern the sharks had was he could disappear at times. he could dominate but then would have stretches you barely noticed him. this year it felt like he was always dominant and dangerous on the ice.

i really liked what the Merrimack coach and players were saying about how they needed to focus on him. “Cam Lund glides faster than most players can skate.”

sharks are very excited to have him. we traded 2 of our -lunds and he helps fill that deficiency. plus he can lord the beanpots he has over the rest of the young sharks without one 😈
