Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Something puts me off with the new Howlin' Huskies branding the athletics department is doing. I don't know why, and maybe it'll grow on me, but I'm not feeling it.

..i think they got it covered.
if the team rebuilding gels & works.. it'll be a howling success.
if it doesn't.. be some howlin' fans & more.. ;) :)

Be careful what you wish for; when we finally got our Jumbotron at the Whitt, we sunk to the bottom of the HEA cellar in three years.
Great looking scoreboard that will give the fans lots of data about the game in “real time” and lots to debate (argue about) Information aboutFaceoffs and Hits are meaningful, but the stats that should bring enlightenment are the Giveaways and the Takeaways. Those numbers should spark some hearty “discussions”.
I don’t remember having this much information on display. Does any other college rink have this type of setup?

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

I would be very surprised if the board has hits, giveaways, or takeaways listed. That's probably some graphic designer googling hockey words to put on the render. If the in-game use is actually in the format of the picture, I would imagine the categories will likely be something closer to shots on goal, saves, faceoffs, penalties, and penalty minutes. I know SOG are currently shown on the left but that diagonal format leaves a lot to be desired from a readability standpoint. No way the shown diagonal SOG/penalty counters stay, they're way way way too busy and require looking for too long to focus in on them.

But NU has Jeff Konya and Jim Madigan and UNH doesn't :p. And I have a feeling that the new videoboard is just the tip of the iceberg and that there is more to come as JK stamps his imprint on NU athletics.

Other big news, the schedule was announced in full yesterday. http://www.gonu.com/schedule.aspx?path=mhockey

I think OOC games are overall pretty meh, with SCSU supposed to be very good, Union could contend for the tournament, but RIT, SHU, RPI, and UAH are all mediocre to very bad. So I think we need to go 5-0 in those games otherwise we have a massive PWR anchor dragging us down. And that 5-0 should be possible, even with Primeau on the WJC team for the Catamount Cup.

I also agree that easing the schedule to start is excellent construction. As I said before I was in favor of dropping the exhibition game, so we get lots of practice, then SHU which should be 2 wins but it's on the road, so that turns up the difficulty a tad. I'll have to make my way over to Fairfield for that Saturday game. Union turns up the heat before it boils with Lowell/SCSU weekend, and then heading into full-blown conference play with BU. I love playing BU early. It's always well-attended, both teams still figuring things out, and the hopes and excitement of a new season is still fresh.

Lowell is the homecoming game which is less flashy than a BU or BC, but it's homecoming, still should be well-attended. Very excited about the Catamount Cup, will be making a trip up north for it as well. Two games that should be winnable.

I do not like finishing with BC. Similar to BU, I'd want to play them earlier rather than later. Especially the last series and 2nd to last weekend of the season. That series will be a huge 4 points, especially with BC being the presumptive preseason favorite and NU will be clawing for home ice in the playoffs this season. Hopefully by then we have a fresh Primeau and we have multiple scoring lines figured out.

At least you avoided Bentley this season.

Re: Northeastern 2018 Off-season: Dog Day Afternoon

Truth be told I am trying to get to Bentley's new rink this year for a game, just to see the improvements made over the JAR!

Second look at the schedule, ending with two home games is nice, even if one is Boston College. Better to be home with important points on the line than on the road.

Also only one mid-week game, Thursday before Beanpot Round 2 at UConn. Certainly appreciate no home mid-week games

Good for Jamie. Had a slow start in the NHL with Dallas but seems to have gotten into a groove at Pittsburgh.
