Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

The chance of getting an at-large bid by going 7-0 then losing the Hockey East title game is basically a coinflip. It was 49% last I checked, which was before yesterday's games, but I can't imagine it changed all that much.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

It seems like refs are out to get Kurker...he's physical for sure.
Kurker makes some idiotic decisions with the puck and with his play. No one is out to get him. He is his own worst enemy.

As someone already noted, they're locked into 6th. Nothing that happens next weekend will affect that. So it will be interesting to see if they rest some of the big boys and play some of the fringe players in one or both games. Maybe appearances by DRoy and/or Theut?

(The Bentley nightmares are haunting me.)
LOL "fringe players". Unfortunately most of the bottom lines are already exactly that. ;)

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Nolan Stevens has gotten tremendously better. He played a fine game last night.

People knocking Kevin Roy on here a few weeks ago should be eating their words. No, he's not having a fantastic season. However he is double shifting with the 3rd and 4th line at times. Goes to show you how weak the bottom half of the roster really is. It's a lot to ask when you're basically playing alone out there. He also had concussion issues and appears to be finally healthy.

Ruck is probably one of the most pleasant surprises I've had in my years of watching Northeastern. Very solid goaltender.

Out of the freshman my favorite is Adam Gaudette. Lincoln Griffin appears to be an okay player. Williams seems to do a solid job on the blue line.

Sophomore class is actually probably the most well rounded even though it is small. Nolan Stevens, Dylan Sikura have both blossomed into good players this year. I don't mind Owens at all on the blue line and Cockerill is serviceable.

Out of the seniors Darou has seen the biggest improvement over the range of his career. He is leaps and bounds better than when he was younger. Saucerman never has and still does nothing for me.

Looking at the juniors I still am not a fan of Benning and never have been. His career will probably be most memorable for his OT Beanpot penalty last year for me personally. Collier and Kurker aka the BU twins are what they are. Aston-Reese is obviously the best in that class.

Besides Derick, everybody on the roster already plays anyway. With Owens injured, Barry and Hedges redshirting, and Day out as a transfer, that pretty much only leaves Rosenthal (who probably should be playing every game to begin with) Schechter and Jamieson. All three of whom have started a game within the past week anyway. Our fringe players are part of the starting 18 at this point.

Very complicated Hockey East playoff run...

They probably go onto the first round and win. Real uphill battle once the second round starts.

Basically looking at Merrimack, UConn, or Maine placing 11th.

My prediction is we split with Maine and end up playing UConn in the first round.

Place - Points - Fri Matchup - Sat Matchup
7. Vermont points 15 @Merrimack @Merrimack
8. UNH points 14 @UConn UConn
9. Merrimack points 13 Vermont Vermont
10. UConn points 12 UNH @UNH
T-10.Maine points 12 @Northeastern @Northeastern
12. UMass points 8 Providence @Providence

Could not agree more regarding Rosenthal. Curious as to why he is not in the roster more often.

I wouldn't, first of all the team is red hot, no changes. Even though I know the PWR looks bleak, if they were to sweep this weekend and then sweep again in first round of playoffs they would be right on the line with a big series against Providence or Notre Dame. You never know what could happen elsewhere. Don't give either one of these games away this weekend by sitting anyone.

Thanks. This is great info. I think we have a better chance of winning HE tourney than going 7-0 and, in effect, winning a coin flip, but either route is still available to the boys. While both scenarios are longshots, at least we still have hope going into the last weekend of HE play. Despite the disastrous start, we are actually in better position this year than in recent seasons.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

The numbers agree that winning Hockey East is the more likely route. Our overall odds of making the tournament are 3%, with 1% of that being the odds of finishing 6th-13th in the Pairwise (Yes, we can still mathematically finish 6th somehow) and 2% being our likelihood of being 14th, either by being 14th in the pairwise or by winning Hockey East and being ranked 14th ahead of the WCHA and Atlantic Champions.

Edit: And thinking about it, most of those scenarios where we finish 6th-13th probably involve winning the HEA title game. So that 3% is probably almost all due to our chances of winning Hockey East.

..even though I am enjoying this (string of Ws).. the problem will not be the first round of playoffs..
I bet you were thinking the same thing last year....;)
Although as a Merrimack fan, NU is the absolute last team I'd like to seen in the 1st round this year.

oh.. i absolutely was not overlooking anyone.. & neither should the team. (they should remember last yr :) )
Just bit of tough luck that we are playing so well now & just a win here or there earlier in season ..& we'd be right in it with regard to a possible NCAA run. Anyway.. that's the cards we got dealt. Hope the team makes the most of it.. they certainly are having fun right now and that's more than half the battle.

You may not want us-- BUT YOU GOT US. And THE ZAR wants you as well. Recent interview said so. He hates Merry. And if he hates MERRY. I hate Merry! LONG LIVE THE ZAR!!

I thought the same thing and made a point of isolating on him when he is on the ice.

I suspect that there are several reasons that he doesn't play more. First is his habit of losing pucks in battles along the boards. He fails to take advantage of his size. I haven't noticed any special defensive skills which would justify using him on the PK. Second, uses his speed going up and down the ice but is not as quick to hunt down loose pucks. Third, on his rushes, if he fails to beat the defense, his next play often fails to set up a teammate or results in a turnover. He is a shooter, but hasn't gotten in position to get many Grade "A" opportunities.

When he takes off on a rush, he can bring the fans out of their seats. Unfortunately he doesn't keep them standing for long.

Still a week left in the regular season, Merrimack could very well jump up as high as the 8 I expect.

Rosenthal certainly seems like he is in the Doghouse. SEE WHAT I DID THERE?

Is this guy serious?

Why is this UML puck slut always posting in the NU Forum? Go be with your ilk.

Because sometimes I read other teams threads. Which leads to me reading what you post. Which leads to me posting on "the NU Forum." A few things to keep me from posting here. 1. proofread 2. learn your own schools history

Your claims over the last few pages

I am going tomorrow. Let's go DAWGSSSS!!!!!
This has already been pointed out, but you are not the Dawgs.

it's ok-- Daddy will still buy you cotten[sic] candy after you lose @ Tsongas. You don't beat us in big games. Remember how excited you were about Frozen Fenway? lolz

1. I am in Atlanta, you can see that on the side of each of my posts
2. Tsongas does not sell Cotton Candy
3. Cotton is spelled cotton
4. The last "big" game your team has played in was in '09. You lost. To Lowell. Correction, it was 2011, you lost to BC.
5. Frozen Fenway was not a big game. It was one regular season game.

Can't wait to take the RiverSucks[sic] out of the Hockey East playoffs.
I can't tell if this is trashtalk or pure stupidity. "RiverSucks" is an insult I could only expect out of Amherst students, neanderthalish and trite.
You "can't wait". *exhales. well the chances we will face off in the Hockey East playoffs are pretty low considering each of ours seeding and the relative awfulness of Amherst. Most likely it would be in the Hockey East Championship game, unless BU/Notre Dame chokes against Amherst

It should be 5-0...Roy's 1st goal was disallowed due to Keenan.
.

The goal was disallowed because of a penalty correct(!) ? So a penalty was called on your player and its the referees fault.

Nice goal last week when he snapped the opp D's stick.

So he committed slashing? YOU JUST ADMITTED YOUR PLAYER COMMITTED A PENALTY ON A PLAY WHERE HE SCORED. I guess the referee missed that one.

I think the pre-game party and Hobey Presentation should be at West End Johnnies. Great Brunch.
Post-game celebration is at Punter's Pub.

Hobey Presentation will be in Tampa. Sorry bud.

It seems like if BC or PC dropped to 3 that would give us the best opportunity to climb in the PWR. Of course, of the 5 possibilities those are the 2 teams I'd least like to face.

I haven't seen PC, BUT BC speed would cause the NU D some big problems.

Nowhere is it written that posting on any particular thread is restricted to fans of any particular program. Really sir (or madam), in your short time on this thread you've managed to become such an embarrassment that I have to wonder if you aren't a plant. So learn how to spell, post some rational thoughts, and get with the program. Or get out!
