its amazing what can happen with decent goaltending as well. Keep it up, Ruck.

Its tough to deal with, again this team should be in the fight for an at-large bid. But goaltending has really been the difference.

As much as I would like to concur with the statement "what might have been"... Schedule is just so weak. It's certainly boosted their place in the standings. They just don't have the depth to go very deep unfortunately. Finally having solid goaltending in Ruck is a huge boost.

By the way, I was a member of the party that very much thought Rawlings was incredibly overrated. I think Ruck is probably better.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

At one point Rawlings was a pro ambitions all rookie for Hockey East...

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Was the large majority not in love with Rawlings? Forgot?

The "large majority" was never in love with Rawlings. Not ever. And not for a moment, especially since the first two shots he saw in his college career (vs Colorado) were goals. The guy put the team on his back and won exactly one crucial game (an epic 1-0 over bu at Matthews). Other than that, he was ordinary at best and outright putrid beyond description at worst. NU would almost certainly have won the 2011 Beanpot had he had even an average night.

As for the "pro ambitions" stuff, a lot of it is just self-serving hype that most of us take with a grain of salt.

I specifically remember people on this forum loving him to death... but other than that I am completely with you. Even that 1-0 win at Matthews over BU? Most of the pucks shot at him that night were directly into his pads.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

I think the fans were always kind of anti-Rawlings, but Cronin and the media loved him. I was always a frustrated Witt supporter back then. That 2010-2011 season could've been so much better.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

last but not least.. if he (rawlings) didn't come back for his senior season.. we get a guy named gillies.

nu hockey: cronin, gaudreau, gillies, lost opportunities, slow starts, bad starts, awful starts & jim madigan..

what might have been.

well here we are ..almost .500
again. :) Gotta finish it out now.

Cronin was pro Rawlings because of his NHL looks. Rawlings started to suck, they went with Witt. Witt got injured and by the time he was healthy NU sucked so it was too late.

I remember having a few people on here complimenting Rawlings. Just being like "What?!"

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

The sad and often maddening part of Rawlings tenure at NU was the wild inconsistency,There were times he would play very well (he had decent defense also) but when he was struggling,he was really struggling horribly,It wasn't from a lack of effort, the kid had a heart to win, which is commendable, but a rollercoaster of performance followed him about at the worst times.I wish him well.

Witt was a pleasant surprise, for quite a stretch it was very hard to get anything by him.It was nice post-Rawlings to have confidence in Witt,I really miss him.

Ruck has also been,at least for the time being,a young sensation.Time will tell, but with better D and some more experience he could be a future fixture at NU.

Primeau coming in could really be amazing,He's got an excellent pedigree, great number's and a good shot at the pro's.

I still cant bring myself to even think about the Beanpot,Its been so long...

All that said,I wrote the entire post with no mention of Madigan..Doh!..never mind...The future looks bright for NU and this is hockey so anything is possible #GoNU #Champs

That's called being in position.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

That 1-0 win against bu was one of the best goaltending performances I'd ever seen in person. Rawlings had been incredibly shaky the first few games of the season before that game, but I think he won over a lot of fans, including myself, that day. But return to his shakiness lost me, and when Witt came in as a freshman the next season and was excellent, it was the most frustrating season I've ever experienced. We had a great offense that year. 7-6 overtime Beanpot loss and 5-4 semifinals loss to #1 BC was tough to take when I saw Witt on the bench. (If I remember, Rawlings was pulled in that semifinals game after 2 periods)
