Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force
NU shooting 4.3% on the year while opponents are shooting 14.2%. Zero goals through the first 5 games for Roy, ZAR, McMurtry, Hedges, Benning and Gaudette. Statistics people well tell you this will begin to even out but as a NU fan I'm not so sure. Between the head coach and the captain, there certainly appears to be a lack of leadership on this team.
In Benning's defense he did not score any goals last year either.
The shooting % for NU will get better. Roy will eventually get his. Gaudette looks like he will get a few too. So will ZAR. Kurker finally cashed in so that should build some confidence there. Hedges wont score, and neither will McMurtry. Basically with the way they crash the net, it will be hard for some of these guys to NOT score. See all the Stevens goals this year.
The problem will be keeping the puck out of the net. Teams basically score at will on us, or when they need to. Some how Benning has been on the ice for all but two goals scored against us. Fennell has gone back to sucking. They are sticking with him to long, though with injuries to Owens and I assume Cockerill, they do not have much of a choice. Schechter has been in every game this year! Even if they Owens and Cockerill back, they still worry me.
And then of course coach whiteboard still cannot teach special teams. Ruck's highlight save, that pass should have never happened to begin with, Benning was chasing the puck. This is the same team had the worst PK ever last year, so they keep throwing out the same combo of guys out there this year. Seems finally this weekend one of the three bozos had an epiphany and finally pulled the Stevens brothers off the PK, at least playing together.
I do not get why some poster wants Griffin and Gaudette pulled for Rosenthal and Pond? Gaudette seems to be making the jump pretty quick, and Griffin has played better then excepted coming straight from prep school. I actually thought sitting Hedges and Collier was probably the smartest move Madigan has made over the last two seasons. Those two are basically the same player, cant play defense, and add very little to the offense most nights. Rosenthal did nothing last year, and Pond is only good for taking the net off the moorings three times a night. Rotate them if you want, but they are not difference makers.
I said this on DHD, but this weekend would not be so bothersome if they had not gotten swept the previous weekend. Winning out there was probably never in the cards to begin with.
Jim led teams typically get hot around Thanksgiving, have a great January, and then crash in February. With how the schedule works out, they will get hot after the bc series, carry that through January, and based on how weak February is, do well there, but lose in the first round again, and Jim will be back for another lost season.
