Ronnieb is an idiot. Has proved that time and time again on here.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

NU shooting 4.3% on the year while opponents are shooting 14.2%. Zero goals through the first 5 games for Roy, ZAR, McMurtry, Hedges, Benning and Gaudette. Statistics people well tell you this will begin to even out but as a NU fan I'm not so sure. Between the head coach and the captain, there certainly appears to be a lack of leadership on this team.

In Benning's defense he did not score any goals last year either. :)

The shooting % for NU will get better. Roy will eventually get his. Gaudette looks like he will get a few too. So will ZAR. Kurker finally cashed in so that should build some confidence there. Hedges wont score, and neither will McMurtry. Basically with the way they crash the net, it will be hard for some of these guys to NOT score. See all the Stevens goals this year.

The problem will be keeping the puck out of the net. Teams basically score at will on us, or when they need to. Some how Benning has been on the ice for all but two goals scored against us. Fennell has gone back to sucking. They are sticking with him to long, though with injuries to Owens and I assume Cockerill, they do not have much of a choice. Schechter has been in every game this year! Even if they Owens and Cockerill back, they still worry me.

And then of course coach whiteboard still cannot teach special teams. Ruck's highlight save, that pass should have never happened to begin with, Benning was chasing the puck. This is the same team had the worst PK ever last year, so they keep throwing out the same combo of guys out there this year. Seems finally this weekend one of the three bozos had an epiphany and finally pulled the Stevens brothers off the PK, at least playing together.

I do not get why some poster wants Griffin and Gaudette pulled for Rosenthal and Pond? Gaudette seems to be making the jump pretty quick, and Griffin has played better then excepted coming straight from prep school. I actually thought sitting Hedges and Collier was probably the smartest move Madigan has made over the last two seasons. Those two are basically the same player, cant play defense, and add very little to the offense most nights. Rosenthal did nothing last year, and Pond is only good for taking the net off the moorings three times a night. Rotate them if you want, but they are not difference makers.

I said this on DHD, but this weekend would not be so bothersome if they had not gotten swept the previous weekend. Winning out there was probably never in the cards to begin with.

Jim led teams typically get hot around Thanksgiving, have a great January, and then crash in February. With how the schedule works out, they will get hot after the bc series, carry that through January, and based on how weak February is, do well there, but lose in the first round again, and Jim will be back for another lost season.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

You are correct that the shooting % will improve. We have faced some terrific goaltending in all 5 games. The UVM goalie is capable, but is not likely to play Superman. If we can keep up the offense we should be rewarded. The freshmen forwards have looked good and I see real improvement from Sikura. OTOH we should be glad that tie games aren't decided by shootouts. We must have blown 6 breakaways this weekend:eek:

Before maligning the defense, it might be a good idea to remember that they are rarely perfect. They haven't been giving up a ton of shots. The winning goal Saturday night was a result of puck (bad) luck as a pass deflected off of Sauce's leg into the net. We held a very good group of forwards scoreless for long stretches of time. In the Bentley and first Minnesota game, the goalie surrendered a slew of soft goals. Note that there are three defensemen who started late last season were not in the lineup this weekend. Dustin Darou, who showed a ton of improvement last year, has been left out of most discussions. I have no idea when he'll return.

This was NOT a "lost weekend." The biggest positive we can take out of this weekend is the possibility that Ruck can play a bit. He came in to put Roy out of our misery and did a terrific job. Many moons ago, Bruce Racine came in to relieve Timmy Marshall - and you know the rest of the story.

what a sad state.. thanks PR.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

This was NOT a "lost weekend.".

Yet the Bentley wknd was..!
Why can't enough folks admit we just don't have a qualified HC who can consistently get the team ready for the season. Any given season. Its just excuses.. & then weak excuses from his friends on here..

Yet another season.. last yr was a 0-8 start.. this yr its 1-4.. not good.

There's just not enough of us left to demand the very real change this hockey program needs.. post Cronin. The last few seasons are a blur.

When season starts like this.. (which has become far too common).. i read the piece below.. written few yrs back..
..again and again & again..

Roby continues with his "gamble".. cause frankly nobody in the fan base cares anymore.. life's too short.

Last paragraph was spot on.. like prophecy.

I'd say make this his last season.. and fire him mid way if our play in Hockey East does not improve. Enough Jim. Either get it.. or get out.
I am on the last straw with my season tix. I love the program.. but I am fed up.

He cant get the team ready at the end of the season either. In between though, they manage to play decent hockey.

I know a few people who will not renew their season tix if JM is renewed. Not that it makes any difference. Quite honestly, it's hard to even get that worked up about Madigan anymore. He can't coach, he can't lead, he can't recruit defense, all of this was evident years ago. PR could have had Johnny Gaudreau, Jon Gillies and a very good hockey team, but his personal vendetta against Cro and his ego was much more important to him. At least they opened the varsity club to everyone...those $4 mixed drinks come in handy when we're losing to Bentley.

So he has not been extended yet? I was talking about it over the weekend, couldn't remember if he had been

Hear hear!

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

The way I see it (from afar) so far:

1. I agree with everyone here that this team has the talent to be better than this. Not just a star in Kevin Roy, but a lot of offensive depth. However, how often did they get away in the previous 2 years with giving up 40+ shots and Witt made the difference? Without a goalie like that now, even with better possession and keeping the shots down, there's no one like that back there to skew things our way (yet). No one to make everyone in front of them look better and carry the team.

2. At this point, just play Ruck. Based on Saturday's game, he's got some talent and he's only going to get better. They're not going to go anywhere with Derick Roy in net and I think he's as good as he's ever going to be. The tough reality for the kid.

3. Madigan - I don't like how this team starts slow every season; I don't like how they still have such a weak defense (missing Owens hurts a lot). What I do like about Madigan is that as a Northeastern guy, winning here and getting this right genuinely matters more than just as a career step. I like how they've seemed better prepared mentally for the big Beanpot games under him. I do wonder, however, if this is as far as he's capable of taking the program.

I'll be at the game Saturday in Burlington, I wonder how many other Husky fans are making the trip.

I feel like being 450 miles away from Matthews, I'm removed from knowing much about the machinations of the athletic department and Roby and the slow burning fuse that is all this losing. And without knowing all that, it's still fun to follow. Part of me wants to know more, part of me is glad I don't.

I have been on the fence the last two seasons about whether I want JM gone. Prior to that I was willing to give him a chance to prove himself. The frustrating thing is that there seems to be talent coming in the pipeline, which at least says that JM can recruit.

An even bigger fear than remaining in a permanent state of mediocrity is that I have zero faith that Roby will hire someone better than JM that can get the job done. We all know Roby will go with someone who wants the players to get A's and B's and the 10 wins a year that come will just be gravy. At that point is it worth gettin rid of JM, who we at least know can score an occasional decent recruit and be a good ambassador for the U?

If the AD situation was different I'd probably be on board to say the experiment isn't worth continuing.

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

Something interesting, from CHN's Chris Boulay. Even with Derick doing what he has and Ruck's disasterous period, we still have a higher team save percentage than BU has right now. That doesn't make ours good or anything, but I don't think they're lighting the program on fire over there quite yet. It's a matter of time until the shot and save percentages regress back to the mean some. Not to mention the fact that at least 2 (Owens, Darou) if not 3 (Cockerill) of our top 6 defensemen are out due to injury and will likely improve the defense upon return. Better games are likely ahead for us.

For those of you who have been threatening not to renew next year's season tickets: Jim Madigan's current contract was extended last summer through the 2017-18 season. So, calm your jets and get behind the team. Complaining will accomplish nothing Jim (and Kevin) are going to be around for awhile.

Interesting note. BC's supposed wunderfrosh, Jeremy Bracco (3 assists in 5 games) practiced with the team yesterday and then signed with Kitchener of the OHL. . That leaves BC one scholarship short as Bracco's $ can't be used to replace him this season. Apparently he preferred reading his press clippings instead of his textbooks. Pretty crummy, low character move.

Bracco leaving (gutless move), not leaving doesn't do a thing for NU (much like the price of tea in China).. stop trying to screen the 800 lb gorilla in the room.. and that is.. a unqualified HC. This coach has not been able to get the team ready for HE play (any play) at the start or end of the season.. for years now. We give up goals in the opening minutes to opponents regularly.. again last night. His tenure at NU has been an absolute disaster. The program (as had been widely suspected & reported when he took the helm).. has been set back. Period.

Students, alums, friends.. are behind the team.. same time some of us don't have to get behind Madigan. Cronin could coach. Madigan can not. We need a guy that can Coach & run high quality practices. I don't know about Bracco.. but if Madigan were to suddenly do the right thing.. and step down.. wouldn't get worse than it is now. Another season.. 1-5 now..
Madigan belongs in fundraising.. not behind the bench.
PR.. open your eyes!..

oh well.. there's always next game..

Re: Northeastern 2015-16: Hobey Roy Kenobi and the Freshman Force

question: What do we expect this team to be?
Given their assets as a school, should this be a team, that hasnt wont a Beanpot since 1988 (theres only 4 teams) and never won a National Championship etc.
Or is it ok that teams from schools of much smaller stature blow past us?
Listen..Jim Madigan bleeds black and Red I get it,were not faulting him for not getting us there, its not personal (to those friend's of Jim's)
And then, there's Roby, for anyone who has the Chutzpah to speak up,and many have and have well spoken.
Like all the NU fans here Im still excited to see some Huskies Hockey,I love the team, the fans, the school!
But again...the question I ask my wise brothers here. What do we expect this team to be consistently? #GoNU
