Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

The first penalty called on NU was pretty soft (a bit of a hook followed by a first-class dive)

Yes, that penalty on Roy was a bad call. Completely agree. But come on, you cannot seriously call that a dive. Doherty looked like he stepped on a banana peel. He needs to get stronger, but the way he ended up falling can not be seen as a dive. The "slash" just completely threw him for a loop.

Yep. It was tilted that way all night and it got more pronounced as the third period went on. For all of that, they not only got two even strength goals, they also sprung Roy for two breakaways. (If I were a BC fan, I'd find Milner to be maddening. Roy absolutely should have had two goals... the two breakaways. The goals he actually scored were bad, bad goals.)

"Should"? Goalies routinely save more breakaways than they give up. Just look at NHL shootouts. The numbers always favor the goalie.

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

I don't think it was a knock on Milner.. FiveHole.. the kid is rock solid.

It was more like.. whoa..
those went in..? couple times..
and those.. point blank.. we missed??!?! ..more than couple times..
I never took it as a knock on Milner. Yea, he takes a nap once in a while, but not enough to worry me. Like Sterlippo said, and, when we're up more than a few. He was solid until we started lighting the lamp and seemed to have the game in control.

I was there for the 1st game at NU... score from behind the blue line?... I could hear him snoring from the back row at the other end of the arena. You guys kicked our arse in that game... absolutely horrenndous performance by BC, and Milner was just playing like the team in front of him. ;)

I didn't think Roy's wrister from just inside the blue line last night was all that bad a goal. On replay, Roy wasn't even looking at the net. He was looking down and just let one rip and sniped it high blocker side. Should he have had it? Probably, but that was a helluva shot.

Sorry, I referenced the wrong penalty. The slash was totally legit and there was no dive involved at all. The one that bugged me was the hooking call on Vermeersch. Yes, there was a little tug there, enough for it to be a legit penalty. But it also looked like a dive by the BC player, I didn't think there was nearly enough in the hook to bring him down to the ice.

(FWIW, there was another penalty later in the game, I think called against NU, maybe even the hook on Saponari, where there was a hook or trip and the offendee did a nice job of playing through it; I was happy that the ref called it because it might encourage players that they didn't need to embellish to get the penalty call.)

Pretty sure it was Matheson who stayed on his feet but couldn't get a shot off...

That was a bad call but went the other way when matheson got booked for standing next to saucerman when his disastrous dangle made him trip over himself

And for the multiple 6 men instances and the Cornell/Manson cheap shots on gaudreau anyone complaining about reffing is just highway buffoonery

Way to go #10 ranked Women's hockey..

first defeating 3rd ranked BU.. then tonight, coming from behind to defeat 2nd ranked BC.. 4-3.. to capture the Women's Beanpot.. well done!

Least one end of the banners in Matthews Arena is constantly being updated. Way to go, nice gm Eagles.

NU women are 11th in the PWR. Is it the top 8 that make the NCAA tournament?

This post (from the W forum).. might shed a bit of light.. i do not follow it as closely all season.. (do try get to a few gms).. great effort tonight! :)

Holy cow, the Beanpot is the Great Leveller: #10 NU prevails over #2 BC and #3 BU while #5 Harvard pulls even for a season split with #3 BU. Next step is for NU to win the HEA autobid the way they just won the Beanpot. Next step is for the three leading ECAC teams to come out with a two-way tie in the regular season, then have the ECAC #3 seed surprise by winning the autobid. Penultimate step is for the non-Minnesota teams to do likewise by achieving parity in the remaining WHCA regular season and tournament. Final step is for Mercyhurst to finish like gangbusters. Then you would have Minnesota plus two quite plausible but non-top eight autobid winners plus two top-eight HEA teams, two top-eight ECAC teams, two top-eight WCHA teams and top-eight Mercyhurst, resulting in two top-eight teams being squeezed out of the NCAAs by the autobids. The amazing thing is....it just might happen that way!

Since I'm out of NESN range, I didn't see the whole game. However, today I finally took a peek at the highlights.

My god Rawlings is absolutely terribly pathetic. Can't wait until this guy is done at NU. Can we put him on an accelerated path to graduation, like maybe later this week?

One of the worst fundamental hockey east goalies I've ever seen. Ugh.

That is a little much.

Looking forward to some Hockey vs Vermont this weekend!,wish I could go (no money),but am very thankful for GoNUxtream!,sad thing is the season is quickly coming to an end,and even though,in many respects, the season has been a disappointment,I still love Huskies Hockey, the game vs. BU and having Roy on the team give me some hope, and also thankful for the conversations here at USCHO,good stuff!:)

I'm gonna be naive and still hope for a push to get in the Hockey East playoffs although they'd probably have to sweep UVM this weekend to even entertain that thought. Hopefully next year will be better (assuming Roy comes back) and I can't imagine goaltending being any worse next year. It's been fun getting acquainted with NU hockey this year (thanks NHL lockout for inspiring a new interest aside from just watching the Beanpot and Frozen Four). Look forward to seeing this season out and some good hockey talk this year and into next season. Go Huskies!

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

No. That was Brad Theissen who did that in the Beanpot, minus the middle finger.

..ha! :)
Still can't believe it.. no regard for teammates.. pretty unprofessional, Minnesota or anywhere..

Sure way to shoot down (rest of) his hockey career, that's for sure.

Philly Mantella in NU's Sr. V.P. in charge of a variety of operating areas of the U., and she is Roby's boss. I'd be very surprised if you don't get an answer. In fact, if you don't get an answer that satisfies you, I'd like to know about it.

And the Peter Roby saga continues....I thought I'd let the Beanpot chatter subside a bit. I did get a response back from Philly Mantella two days after I sent my email. I had hoped to receive back a well thought out, detailed response to my letter. Unfortunately, what I got instead seemed to be nothing more than a brush off, form letter which frankly is a little insulting. It did not address any of the questions I had or concerns regarding Mr. Roby's behavior. Please see Ms. Mantella's response below. I have not edited or omitted anything; this is the official response in its entirety from the University.

Thank you for your email. An encounter as you described below should never occur on our campus. We must all consider how these interactions could be avoided through appropriate and constructive forums. It is clear we share a common goal of strong athletic programs with exceptional experiences for our student athletes. I personally have been working very closely with AD Roby to build success plans for many of our sports, including hockey, and I am confident in and committed to the path to excellence we have laid out. This work is a priority which we will continue to pursue with great energy. I hope that you continue to support NU hockey and our student athletes and I hope you share my pride in this week's historic wins.

Regards,
Philly Mantella

..no one wants to rock the boat in the Athetics Dept.. especially with BB doing well this season as well as our real hockey team (the better half Huskies).. :).

You should cc: Madigan on both -your original email & this response.. if he doesn't care.. then we're in long term trouble.
