Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

That was one of the most unprofessional efforts I've seen in a while by the officials in HEA. That 3rd goal was a direct result of missing a textbook boarding. That was an inexcusable miss, it was literally a carbon copy of the NU boarding penalty earlier.

Then a UMASS fan throws a bear on to the ice and n bench minor is called on UMASS but then a bear comes from an unknown location and it's a 2 minute penalty on NU? Really? So opposing fans can now influence the game and get penalties called?

That was an absolute disgrace of a game reffed last night. It was a toss-up until they decided to let a blatant boarding (or hitting from behind, either applied) go right in front of their eyes.

I have always thought that Hockey East has terrible officiating, but Saturday night had to be the worst I have ever seen. It seems that Hockey East has brought in a whole slew of new officials this year including one at Saturday's game, whose name was "Roy", not to be confused with the Roy brothers. While I still think Drew Ellement is terrible, the fact that he had to come out of the game with a concussion has to say something. Afterwards, the ref told Madigan that he thought that Ellement fell into the boards on his own. Normally I would believe that this could have happened given what I have seen from Ellement over the past three years, however, I was watching the play as it happened, and it was clear as day that Ellement was hit from behind into the boards. Not to blame the loss on officiating alone, Northeastern looked absolutely terrible on offense and aside from Saponari and Roy, this team lacks any offensive forwards. Vermeersch continues to regress from his freshman year and Ferriero is nothing but a liability out there. It would also help to get someone who could win faceoffs in key situations, seeing that is how UMass scored two of their goals and which led to the empty net goal that ended any chance of a comeback.

..no kidding on the officiating. To top things off, they were not aware of the 'teddy bear toss' (all for a good cause). Even when they were made aware.. they gave us a delay of gm penalty when a Umass fan tossed one of the last remaining bears on ice.. ridiculous.

Doesn't matter.. would not have affected the outcome much. Seems like a wasted season.. hope i am proven wrong.

Typical NU to not alert the ref's. No matter who is in charge they still can never do anything right.

Did it ever occur to you that we made the league office aware of our plans and it was they who failed to notifiy the refs??

Typical NU? If you actually have a degree from NU, it is certainly more valuable and highly regarded than it was when you received it. You got lucky. If that's typical, you have nothing to complain about.

I did not go to NU but have many family memebers that have. I have been following NU for 30 years, I have also seen behind the curtain. They are always one step behind.

How do you know it was a UMass fan? Did you see the person?

..actually yes. She was escorted out by security (wearing her crimson UMass sweat.. so i'm just assuming ..Minuteman fan.. right? :) ) she was accompanied out by her friend also wearing a UMass T.. anyway, so that was off ice. On ice.. Huskies served the penalty.

LOL...I've heard of the "7th Man" making the difference in a game but I guess for UMass, the 7th Man is a woman!

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

yes.. yes.. we'll be fine this wknd as well. We've just had a bad gm or 7...

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

So, a wasted season.. i hoped so much for the kids' sake it was not going to be. Alumni everywhere should be outraged at the ADs office & voice concern (i have & will again)..

Rossi can you hear me up in the club box?.. rally 'em for a change! Now!

The disaster that is the hockey HC position right now.. JM needs to go so future can be corrected sooner rather than later. And to Steve & the other apologists for Madigan.. sorry, i think the longer we wait.. the more things stay the same.. gluck Joe & anyone else nxt. What a ridiculous situation (read.. hire!)..

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

The Madigan era pretty much needs to end immediately. The damage done already is inexcusable. That HEA QF win over BU seems so long ago now. When two kids leave mid-season, something's not right. And the boosters etc. who are apologists instead of demanding a higher level of quality aren't helping, at all...the fact is, LaPlante should be coaching right now. We should give him a call ang beg him to come back. But the loyalty in the NU circle will keep this mess here for a while I bet.

Reality is NU doesn't care enough to be good. If this was happening at BU or BC there would be outrage.

It'd be awesome if JM was the AD though. He cares about the school and winning, but that doesn't mean he's a good coach.

Actually, BU routinely has kids leave midseason these days and other kids "leave" as well ;)

Doesn't seem to have an impact on Jack or the BU administration. They just keep going along with him as coach (something I'm happy about as an opposing fan).

Anyway, when the poster northeastern is saying madigan has to go...that's saying something as he's usually pretty positive.

1. Kids leaving for touching up girls is quite a different issue.

2. I mean outrage at the # of wins and losses. It's ridiculous for our program to be at this point. Cronin had us on the up and up. All that momentum is gone. There are two steps to being a good coach...understand the game and being able to convey it and being a leader. If one of those isn't there, bad things will happen. Take a pick at which one is the biggest issue right now...

Re: Northeastern 2012-2013 Season Thread: A New Hope

Not just those two...numerous other kids not involved with that stuff.

Let me ask you NU fans something, Mike Cavanaugh interviewed for the NU job a while back, correct? Was it when Cronin was hired? Both times? I can't remember. Anyway, what I don't know is after the interview process, was he really interested in the NU job? Wouldn't that be someone to go after rather than a scout?
