Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Merrimack has no post season experience, problems with penalties, an average goalie, injury question marks, and they aren't coming in on the best of highs. I hope your definition of curbstomp is different than everyone elses.
I like the Macks chances here.

They played very poised in the HE Tournament. No 'deer in the headlights' look. Hurdle #1 solved.
They played very good hockey... few PIM (4/8), with no stupid penalties. Bigos had a few chances to really lay out some BC guys into the boards and withheld from doing so. The Mack played smart last weekend.
Average goalie... I can't disagree, but he can be exceptional and stand on his head for 60:00 at a time (see the 3 RS games against BC).
They can succeed without Barton, but it would certainly be nice for them to get him back.
I think the way they played last weekend, and with the loss to BC, may actually be an advantage for them. They now know they can play with anyone on the big stage and the loss will help keep them hungry. A HE Championship may have gone to their heads.

Keys for Mack to succeed will be the D and their ability to clear pucks from the slot. Canatta is going give up some juicy rebounds, they've got to be there to clear them to the side boards.
Another key is MC's 3rd line. They are quite good and gave BC fits. They are tough to match up against. Flanagin can really snipe.

I see the Mack advancing out of this regional and I'll be there to root them on (in my BC garb of course). ;) :)

Go Mack!
Go Eagles!

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Revisionist history to call the 2-1 loss to BU "Umiliation" (or a choke) and to call that play "throwing the puck into your own net".

Absolutely...that was one of the best games I have seen UNH play in the postseason. They were flying and the crowd was wild. Unfortunately for them, that BU team was a team of "destiny" (look at what happened in the Frozen Four). That was in no way a "collapse."

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

no way, you're the exception, you go out of your way to make up for the db'ness of the fans of the school you support, a class act supporter of a class program/coach, its too bad there aren't many more like you on here!

and I agree, when he's on, there are no better goaltenders than Cannata

your kind words are much appreciated

For folks looking for food pre/post game, I recommend:

Official UNH Gathering with the Pep Band and Gnarlz at Margaritas just up the road from the VWA. Opens at 12noon.

I know where I WON'T be doing pre-game. :D

Buddy and I usually do Jillian's before the UNH/Darty game each year. Probably have to deal witht he squeak ball fans but it is tradition.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Bad news for Miami: it's cold and snowy up here. Feels like we're still in the middle of winter. UNH plays best in the middle of winter... ;)

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Granted it's not Umiliation's throwing the puck into your own net in a tie game with 10 seconds to go...

How many times must this be rehashed, go watch the replay, if that puck isn't blocked by Pollastrone, it ends up on Wilson's stick with an open net. Want to make a bet if he puts that in? The only other option he would've had would be to cup the puck and throw it out of the crease, but that would've resulted in a penalty shot for (I believe) anyone on the team. UNH did not by any means collapse in that game. They dominated play for large portions of that game but Millan played out of his mind.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

not sure if this has been posted yet or not but Comcast SportsNet New England will televise Saturday’s NCAA Tournament game between Merrimack and Notre Dame live in HD beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

well not to butt in but... don't sell Notre Dame short. They are well coached, they are always in position and rarely give up an odd man rush, they capitalize well on mistakes too. I think the special teams will make the difference.

I believe ND's special teams were at the bottom of the list of the four teams in this regional. Could be wrong. Hopefully Merrimack's power play keeps clicking.

with all due respect but did you watch either of the games this past weekend? lol

They are capable but man those are bold statements to make after they got beat up this past weekend.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Poor city planning was involved, as well; Manchester is having their St Patricks Day Parade on Elm St Sunday afternoon. The two events could not happen at the same time, so that was part of the reason for the 8pm game.

That had zero to do with it. The NCAA could care less about manchesters st. patrick day party. Its all about TV and espn wanted the games on later in the day. Same thing that happened last year in Ft. Wayne, its all what the NCAA and ESPN want they don't care about anything else.

Re: Northeast Regional: Miami, Merrimack, Notre Dame, UNH

Are you confused that the only a-holes in the Miami, Merrimack, ND, UNH regional thread are BC fans?

Im not surprised at all, frankly its expected that they are the only a-holes in any thread. But we have to take it, they have owned us in the tournament. All you can do is let them talk, problem is when the time comes that we do beat them we still won't have anything to say because of past history...some ego's aren't ones you can be level headed with.

And all that late game did on Sunday in Fort Wayne was give us all more time to drink that day
