Northeast Regional - March 25-26: Minnesota, UMass-Lowell, Cornell and Notre Dame

Re: Northeast Regional - March 25-26: Minnesota, UMass-Lowell, Cornell and Notre Dame

alfa, Michigan has more women's bball fan support than hockey?

No. But I was just making the point that many of the B1G schools that have historically done well in Hockey, our sport is 2nd, or 3rd, or even 4th fiddle in the school's pecking order.

And for some smaller schools, it really bugs them. I don't know why, but it clearly does.

Re: Northeast Regional - March 25-26: Minnesota, UMass-Lowell, Cornell and Notre Dame

When you think a regional final win is a game people will remember, it's a sure sign of a small-time program. Congrats on being the biggest kid at the kiddie table.

Not sure which team you pull for but Notre Dame is clearly more accomplished as a program than UML. 3 FFs to 1 and an appearance in a final game. I'm not comparing Notre Dame to any school that has won an NCAA title, let alone a school that has multiple titles, like a BC, Denver, Minnesota or Michigan. But the garbage spewed by some of the UML posters towards Notre Dame here is comical seeing as how they have accomplished nothing more than Notre Dame (less, really) and in the biggest game to date between the two, Notre Dame won. Even though we were a punk program compared to them and should not have bothered showing up. Oh, and whoever you root for, do they have FF banners hanging in the rafters even if the team came up short that year? If so I'd say that program considers a regional championship to be a pretty big deal. And they should. If you disagree I hope you're petitioning your team to remove all visible tributes to anything short of a national championship.

Ding. Ding. Winner!

It's impossible to accomplish less than Notre Dame. But congrats if you think they've accomplished something.

not to take anything away from uml.. because theyve been stellar in our conference.. & have heck of a coach.. but in nd's case.. reaching 2 frozen fours in 3 yrs is pretty darn good for (fairly upstart) their program. a lot of schools would like them banners.. short of the biggest prize in college hockey. just my .02

I'm no Notre Dame fan, but plenty of teams have accomplished less than ND has. Not sure what world you come from where every team has made it to the Frozen Four, let alone an NC game. Unless that's not a measure for accomplishments.

UML, for example, hasn't done that, yet.

On the other hand, they are not really upstarts, either. They've been continuously a D1 program since 1984. Perhaps not as rich as schools they've been conference mates with, but they are not exactly new, either.

I think it was two Frozen Fours in four years, not three.

I did not meet one fellow River Hawk fan last week or on Saturday/Sunday that was overjoyed about the prospect of having to play ND in the final game. We all would have preferred to play Minnesota and that's not intended as a slight against them in any way, shape, or form. Playing ND it meant they'd be coming in on a high, they'd also have extra motivation to avenge the HE semi debacle, and potentially leave HE as the NCAA champs. Regardless of our success to date that sounded like a recipe for trouble. If nothing else we were all aware that the law of averages was likely to raise its ugly head sooner than later. It was an exciting, nerve-racking game with an unhappy ending for us UML fans; congratulations to ND. Hopefully we'll meet again under similar circumstances with a different outcome.

Re: Northeast Regional - March 25-26: Minnesota, UMass-Lowell, Cornell and Notre Dame

Wrong. As I mentioned previously (perhaps on another thread), the Frozen Four is sold out every year and has been for some time now. It's become one of those "elite" events, like the Super Bowl (TRANSLATION: People that don't know anything about college hockey go because it's the "in" thing to do) So, although that would have been true 30 years ago, it wouldn't matter WHO was there, it will still sell out. All having ND there will do is raise the price for the scalpers.

Tickets sold doesn't automatically = butts in seats. Although I have not looked at actual attendance to capacity of recent events.

actually his team does have a banner hanging about trips to the FF . It lists each year the team made it to the dance, 25 at last count............and a regional championship IS something

Ding. Ding. Winner!

of what? he left out the fact that UML won the HE Tourney championship 3 of the last 5 years in arguably the the country's toughest conference. Conference Tournament championships mean something. I dont know how many ND has won, do you?

Perfectly stated.

Unless apparently you are a UML fan and your team just lost out on one to a program you previously owned.

Notre Dame also has 3, same as UML, to go along with their 2 regular season titles. We have more NCAA appearances (as a D1 program), more FFs and to date one title game appearance. Mind you, I don't think any of those make ND a better program than UMLs, because it isn't. Both have won some noteworthy games, both have shown the potential to do more, and both have done so after not a lot of success in the previous couple decades. But only a fool would argue that Notre Dame's achievements are meaningless while UMLs are not, or that UML has proven to be the better program. That's all I'm saying.

And while I have had pointed things to say about the UML posters who have their heads up their butts, (which certainly is not all of them, just a few more "vocal") I have also repeatedly praised both the team and the coach. To those UML posters who do understand where both teams are at in the grand scheme of college hockey I say congrats on a great season, on a great Hockey East tournament, to a dominant win in the NCAAs (one of the few this year) and good luck next year. It would not surprise me to see UML raise an NCAA champions banner one day soon.

You realize you are arguing with BC posters here right? I know you went into hiding the last 4 years and just came back once your team won something of significance, but just realize besides Riverchief you have been arguing with BC guys...

Re: Northeast Regional - March 25-26: Minnesota, UMass-Lowell, Cornell and Notre Dame

The bandwagon ND hockey fans in Chicago are headed for the exits. Raising that Northeast Regional championship banner will make for a great night though. That OT win over Lowell will never be forgotten, not even after getting stomped into submission.
