Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

college hockey needs to go to the lacrosse model - quarterfinals at home sites, then two super regionals where two games are played to decide who advances to the FF. Sure, there are holes in this model, but no more than the one we have now.

Welcome to the party! I have been ranting about this all week (you can see my posting on numerous threads, especially the "what if they decided to change the format blah blah blah" thread). :)

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

Was it against Lowell that he had the amazing 2-on-1 where he stopped, then passed to his streaking partner?

Yes. :) And the night before against UNH when he stick handled through three defenders (and I DO agree with Starman that he might do a "little" too much of that in "traffic") at top speed, drew the defense and then passed across the crease for another tap in.

Well, my thoughts on this are not new, been discussing them with friends for awhile. I remember when the NCAA first instituted quarterfinals, 1982 I believe. UNH hosted Michigan State in a two game total goal series, propelling them to the FF. I hate total goals but how about a best of three? You think that's too much?

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

I didn't stay for the last periods of duluth-goofs

Mookie was counted 2x for that 5,000. I used one ticket for the first game. Then left the building to get a drink between games (yes, it was needed :p), then used my 2nd ticket for the nightcap

I was counted twice too, and I left after the first period of the second game. Mookie -- are you in my head?

I'm not quite sure what the insistence is for not letting people leave and come back. If it's to try to ensure people don't have a drink between games, that may well explain (a tiny bit) why attendance in the second game is so low.

Hmm... I thought everyone told you and I that the 2:00PM Friday game time didn't matter and people who couldn't miss work should deal with it and attendance would be great. ;)

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

MN crapped the bed. tUMD is good, I don't want to take ANYTHING away from that, but MN was purely pathetic today.
Brent, I have a question; sorry if it's been discussed elsewhere. In my idle time (a lot of it during this game), I noticed that UMTC and Duluth are both highly "native" and Duluth was the much better team last night, and UMTC was 1-4 (now 1-5) against other Minnesota college teams this year. Was this an aberration, or is Duluth (and the other Minnesota schools, who don't seem so Minnesota hometown dominated) starting to get some of the better Minnesota high school players that it seemed always used to go to UMTC?

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

But he's not playing badly. He doesn't always score but he creates opportunities for his linemates. If you focus too much on him the others will burn you...
I'm sure UMD will look for ERod and others.

umd will not make same mistake. they will hammer BU today.
We're doomed.

It's an aberration. Looking at the record of the Gophers against SCSU, MSU-M, UMD, BSU it's a dominate record.

I know on UMD's end they have been able to get players that might have gone elsewhere (UMTC). They've never had this many Minnesotans on the roster in a long time (probably ever). so to answer your question without getting too lengthy, I'd say yes. The tide on that has turned in the last 10 to 15 years on that.

As for the record against fellow MN teams...it is a combo of other teams getting better and some behind the scenes stuff at MN that I cannot comment on.

Preferable to total goals, which is ludicrous. The game is about winning...total goals combined from separate games are completely irrelevant. Agreed.

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

What is the obsession with people in the West trying to "prove" that Eichel is not as good as ALL the scouts obviously agree that he is? It was constant yesterday, especially from a certain Gophers poster (who I'm guessing is not saying much today).

Not this westerner and I don't get it either. He's a hell of a player and really fun to watch.....and from what I've seen elevates the play of any teammate lucky enough to be on the ice with him.

You don't think 5,000 is "great?" Ha ha ha ha ha ha :D

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

I just wanted to thank Darius (wherever he is) for the recommendation. We did indeed go to Piccola Italia and it was FABULOUS! Maybe the best veal I have had in years. Great wait staff too. And, by leaving the UMD-Minn game after two, we beat the crowd. :D
You are welcome. Piccola has been around for a while, flies under the latest and greatest radar, but never disappoints. Glad you enjoyed it and left the 2nd game early. I almost never leave sporting events early, but did last night. Pathetic display by the Gophers. Very disappointing. Thankfully they brought Goldy.

Re: Northeast Regional: Boston University, Yale, UMD, Minnesota

So... yesterday was disappointing. Yale's style made for boring hockey viewing compared to for instance the MI Tech/St. Cloud game. Fortunately Yale/BU was close thus exciting and the right team won. Kudos to lots of Terrier fans for sticking around for a while. I've posted a little about MN and won't rant, but other than Goldy's antics, have nothing positive to say about a team I follow and like from a distance. I hope UMD didn't use up their emotion vs. their rival and brings it again today. I am hoping for a BU win, but my very strong second hope is for a fun game to watch. Please?

I never leave early, either. But my wife has Lyme Disease (was bitten by a tick last summer) and she gets VERY tired. She was practically asleep and was very hungry. There was ZERO chance that Minny was coming back so there was no point in staying. I'm a die-hard but you can usually tell if there is at least some hope. Really puzzling and I can imagine there are going to be serious questions out there (besides the "you play in a lousy league" comments, as someone over there alluded to, there are "internal issues" that he "can't go into" now...so we may not have heard the end of this).

Had my wife's leftover chicken parm for lunch. Even tastier the next day when the sauce "matures." Fantastic! Leaving now because I'm just so worked up I can't concentrate on anything!! :)

Don't think there will be any problem there. But, personally, I hope my heart holds out another day!
